Reading ALL Of A Unicode File?

I seem to have lost my old account on here (forgot username) so I had to make a new one.I've been able to make some working applications but I am still inexperienced and I have fallen to another problem. I am trying to read a unicode (UTF16) file and have all the contents displayed in a textbox. The file for example if opened with notepad shows all the textHere is the generic code:

fI am reading some 10 fields per line from a text file. One of the field is in Chinese Characters. The other are numeric or english strings. When I open the text file (using notepad), I can see all characters displayed properly, including the Chinese. BUt when I read the line o text into a variable oneLine in a VB program using the following code:

I have a problem reading ID3v2 text identifier tags when they are encoded in unicode. If i update the tags using winamp the tags are encoded in UTF-16 with BOM. When i try to read the tag i step through each byte and use chr(byte) to get the character that that byte represents. But when the bytes are unicode i get some characters (shown below) as the first two characters:
The remaining characters are correct, it's just these 2 first ones.
What are these for? and how can i get rid of them or read the bytes as unicode characters? i've tried reading the ID3 website and many other sites too but i don't know what to do. i can check the text-encoding byte in that tag frame to determine whether or not the tag is encoded in unicode or ISO-8859-1 but i don't know what to do next.

If On Open File BOM is npt found then i have to treat the file as UTF-8. If BOM compatible with UTF-16 is Found then load it as UTF-16 If BOM is not compatible with UTF-16 then post error message."Not Compatible"
How can I implement all these conditions at once. As the criteria for all is only BOM. how can I know if BOM is found or not. Kindly let me know.

I made a batch script using VB.NET which deletes shortcut on my desktop. The problem is that shortcut title contains unicode characters so batch doesn't work. However if I remove that unicode character from the shortcut and batch script it does delete the shortcut. How can I make it delete the shortcut w/o removing that unicode character?

How to encode string and save using vb.net code? sound don't understand, right? let's say i want to save my string(contain unicode) to file like in NOTEPAD when you write unicode and save, you have to choose encoding = Unicode in order to see the same character when you open it later. I ran across my first unicode data, and I am not sure what to do with it. I read the unicode text from a binary file using the ReadBytes method, because ReadChars threw an exception when it tried it. Well, long story short, I have found a way to work with the data, I can convert it using a small Function I wrote, which goes something like this: [Code] And this works wonderfully. It just throws away anything not in the ASCII range, including the BOM at the start of the unicode data.
But I would guess that this method is not very universal and probably not the best way. Are there any VB functions available to do this sort of thing? I was able to find something called Text.Encoding, but there didn't seem to be a reverse of that not that I found anyhow. Any ideas?

I am trying to use Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser for parsing any format of tab delimited text file that user may have and show the data in web page in tabular fashion.I have sample tsv file with text qualifiers such as quotes saved in different encoding styles for different platforms such as pc, unix, mac saved using textpad. and I am trying to parse these using TextFieldParser. It works for all PC files but fails for mac.

I need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?

I want to perform two hashing operations concurrently on a single file, without reading the file twice. Is there some way to share the FileStream between two synchronized hashing threads? For example:

Maybe some way of caching a stream? Trouble is, I don't want the entire file in memory at once (it could be many gigabytes in size) and I don't want the file read more than once, due to speed issues. I want the file cached only sufficiently to ensure that both threads can work.For example, suppose at some point in time, thread A had read 100k of the file, but thread B had only read 20k of the file. The portion of the file between 20k and 100k should be cached; but then progressively forgotten as thread B catches up. Then again, if thread B is too slow, we might still end up with hundreds of megabytes being cached.Maybe thread A should be made to wait while thread B catches up. Maybe the ReadByte() function of the stream should block for a while if one of the threads is too far behind?

friend of mine has no HTML knowledge so I'm attempting to write a program that replaces certain parts of a html file to suit his needs.I've edited the HTML file and marked certain parts with "tags" like this:
#IMAGEURL1# I have a textbox where he can copy + paste an image URL and hopefully the #IMAGEURL1# is replaced with the contents of the textbox.
So can someone please enlighten me to-as how to open a HTML file (there's no textbox to display the contents just yet, I'll add one if needed), find the specified text and then replace it with whats in a textbox.

I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel.Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]

I have just recently been using VB 2010 after using VB5. I have noticed a lot of changes. The problem I have is that I wish to open and save text files to and from arrays in the background. I got a log file (Log.txt) a timer and a RichTextBox1.Text The timer is opening the log file again and again every milisecond here the code:

Okay that keeps the track of my log file inside my richtextbox , but there is a big problem there. My richtextbox slows down hard if the log file gets too big.. Sometimes it kicks me out of the program and in taskbar it says Program Not Responding..
I wanted to know if there is a method to read a bigger Log file with out having such issues. (It mostly happens when log file goes over 13000 characters)

I am in the process (slow process) if learning vb.net by trying to create a simple application that will read and write (save) chosen information to a text file. The application has text boxes (name, email address, etc) and I want to read information from certain lines in the text and place in the given text box.
