When I run the application on a US English windows XP everything is fine, but when running on a system with Chinese version of XP, the file is saved as ANSI. Below is a code snippet showing UnicodeEncoding Does anyone know why Chinese Windows would save as ANSI instead of unicode?

Batch To Remove File With Unicode Characters?
Feb 11, 2012I made a batch script using VB.NET which deletes shortcut on my desktop. The problem is that shortcut title contains unicode characters so batch doesn't work. However if I remove that unicode character from the shortcut and batch script it does delete the shortcut. How can I make it delete the shortcut w/o removing that unicode character?

Jun 3, 2011I ran across my first unicode data, and I am not sure what to do with it. I read the unicode text from a binary file using the ReadBytes method, because ReadChars threw an exception when it tried it. Well, long story short, I have found a way to work with the data, I can convert it using a small Function I wrote, which goes something like this: [Code] And this works wonderfully. It just throws away anything not in the ASCII range, including the BOM at the start of the unicode data.
But I would guess that this method is not very universal and probably not the best way. Are there any VB functions available to do this sort of thing? I was able to find something called Text.Encoding, but there didn't seem to be a reverse of that not that I found anyhow. Any ideas?

It works for all PC files but fails for mac.

3 textboxes
2 buttons (which i would like to get their text from)and then 1 button to save details and exit.I got the coding place but i dont want a a dialogue box to come up i just want to save the stuf to a set folder location, will need to read the textfile to the same area, incase the user wants to change the data. Mar 11, 2010I am attempting to write a playlist for my media player which is already built. I have found a way to build a playlist for it but it would be helpful if I could save the contents of TextBox1 to a text file without using the save as. I am trying to get over a user inputting a file name for the finished text file so is it possible to write the file c: est.txt without using the save as dialog? I have found that I can use a vbs program file which creates a playlist in a folder. I save the vbs file text to the textbox then save it as a vbs file in the playlist directory, then execute the finished file to make the playlist.

Mar 19, 2009My question is simple (the answer may not be...), What I am looking for is a way to save a file as an encrypted file (so know one can open it except in visual basic or a way to save it with a unique ending that only visual basic will recognize. I will also need to know of a way to open or load the file to.
This is going to be used in a game I am working on (and yes...I know visual basic isn't really meant for games, but it is coming together pretty well). I was originally going to have it save as a text file, but then everyone could open, read it and even change there stats. That is what this file will contain, the stats for their character, and when they load it, it will place the values into the correct spot.
I am a partial beginner or intermediate coder, I can understand code, I just don't know all there is, like saving and loading, and this is probably a little harder.
