I was thinking, which way is better: to copy the file into a specified directory and change its extension to none ("*. "). Either that or maybe I can save the file's binary code in an XML database. View 5 RepliesI've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.

View 2 RepliesI am using SQL server express 2005 as an backend. I created a backup file programmatically. If I use same server , then it restore the data successfully. however if we try to restore on different server, then it fails. and throw following message:
"The Backup set Holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'DatabaseName' database. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
On both server, Sql server instance name and database name is same. How can I resolve this error?

View 4 RepliesI am creating a program that will be sold as a subscription. I am trying to decide how to prevent users from passing the program to others without purchasing it. I was thinking that on the very first run, the program could pull the MAC address from the computer it is run on, and create a constant at run time. This constant is then hard wired into the program and is used for comparison every time the program is run thereafter. If the MAC address do not match, it is on a different computer.
How do I recompile my .exe to include a globally declared constant used for comparison? And how do I use this variable throughout my program?Or is there a simpler way to create my program to require Key Codes for renewal once per year?

View 2 RepliesUsing VS 2008, I run into problems with many pacakages because when I make changes and press the green arrow key to compile and run, it does not always recompile, so sometimes I run the former executable, even though I made changes to it.Anybody came accross that problem? It is very annoying. The only way that I can make sure VB recompiles my program after a change, is to manually delete the executable in bin/debug before running it, otherwise I keep on seeing bugs in my program that I just fixed.Usually if I recreate my package from scratch, the problem disappears for a while, so I suspect that the problem is caused by a setting that changes by itself in my package, but I have no proof of that.

My understanding is the user must enter 32 digits into a textbox. The textbox should place limitations that only allow the digits "0" and "1".
