I have a Gridview that I create a dynamic footer wired up to the RowDataBound event.
However there is a 50/50 chance that 3 of the columns will have no data.
I want to be able to dynamically hide the columns with no data if possible.
I have tried doing this in the RowDatabound event by checking if the value is = 0 but that does not work because I think the event is called to early?
Is there anyway to refer to the values in the Footer row after ALL the data has been bound?
Ideally in VB
`Protected Sub GridView1_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowDataBound
If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then

I am using VB to make a file editing system that allows the user to edit multiple files on multiple tabs like Notpad++.I hit a slight snag though. Seeing as tabs don't contain text, I add a textbox to each tab upon creation.For loading files I want to check if the current tab's textbox is empty so I don't end up adding the loaded file as a new tab, which would just create clutter (like how when word opens a file, it checks if the current document is an unsaved file with no text before loading.)Problem is, how do I check this with tabs I haven't added yet? (Ie will be added whilst the program is running as opposed to in design mode)

I hope the question makes sense, anyways. I'm looking to know if in VB.NET, when we call an object's constructor, is there some kind of a reference that points back to the caller? I'm interested because of a corner case where I want the object being created to first be able to validate the existence of some data in the caller before it allows itself to be created. If this validation fails, I plan on throwing an exception. This corner case will never happen at runtime unless the object being created is used improperly by a programmer. The object being created is not inheriting the object I want it to validate, so I can't do anything with the MyBase qualifier.
It's bit of a "future-proofing" issue that I have a (bad) habit of doing. Not critical -- I can always leave stern comments behind as a last resort. Wanted to know if this was possible.

In my project, I have a local dataset (XSD) that I am using as local-temporary tables. I am getting a System.InvalidCastException when trying to access the field in one the tables. I believe this is because I my code is (incorrectly) not setting a field's value in a row before trying to access it.My problem is that the exception is breaking in the designer file and not in my code. As a result, I'm having difficulting determining which line of my code reading the field value before it has been set. Is there any way to configure Visual Studio to break in my code instead of in the designer created file?

My program creates columns at runtime with the following code:
Cmd = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("ALTER TABLE [Parent] ADD [" & ColumnDate & "] int", con)
objCmd = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("ALTER TABLE [Parent] ADD [" & ColumnDate & "] int", con)
objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
I add data into the newly inserted column with the following code:
da.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand(sql, con)
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
cb.QuotePrefix = "["
cb.QuoteSuffix = "]"
ds.Tables("SchoolMaticsDatabase").Rows(inc).Item(ColumnDate) = Hours * Num
da.Update(ds, "SchoolMaticsDatabase")
All of the above works fine; the issue arises when I try to edit the information originally placed in the newly added column. These are the approaches that I have taken. (None of them give an error message; it simply won't update within the database.)
da.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand(sql, con)
Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da)
cb.QuotePrefix = "["
[code]....
I added a column to the table manually via opening the access database and all the above approaches work for editing data stored in that column. So I believe it is something to do with the fact that the columns are created at run time.

VB GridView control will not allow code in the vb code file to access a data column that has its visible property set to false. When it is set to true, the data column can be accessed with no problem. Any suggestions as to how to correct this? I have looked through the documentation, text books, and I have not found anything that gave me any clue as to what the problem could be. I thought that the property was just applied to the column, not that it would remove the column from being accessible.
