(I found no server 2003 forums so i posted here) I have recently been tasked with moving legacy applications (written in VB 6) that have to be migrated from windows server 2K to windows 2003. My superiors tell me that we MUST use MDAC 2.7 because the VB 6 applications are very old and use office 97 (no chance for upgrade because they will break - they will be supplanted by .net applications) Also, if these legacy apps use 2.8 they will break as well.
I know that Windows Server 2003 automatically comes with MDAC 2.8 and there is no way to uninstall it (is there?). But is it possible to install MDAC 2.7 (parallel to 2.8) and force our applications to use the 2.7 version? Or do we have to stick with windows 2k if we HAVE to MDAC 2.7?

I developed an application, which has the ability to save custom settings in application settings variables. The user saves his setings and it works perfectly. The problem is when i update the application to new version. I will be uninstalling the old version and install the new version. At this time all the user settings are set to default. How can i make my application to not distrub the user settings and keep them intact. Is there any alternate. PBL (Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Win 7 64 bit Ultimate)

So although we have plenty of keys from our subscription, to minimize tracking and confusion we just want to use2 or them over and over as we install, test, extended test, wipe and reload. Eventually we would have to recycle any way. Much of this will be scripted /automated and we were wondering what kind of problems we will run into for the activation cycle (human intervention required, phone call, etc.) Mostly working on Win7 (all versions) but still need to do some Vista and even XP.

How do you reinstall and write over the previous dataset from a click once app? I assume that in a purchased version there are some added features with deployment and install. I am needing to delete the previous dataset when I uninstall. Currently,I am getting the first dataset AFTER I reinstall which leaves me with the mistakes and reason for reinstall not being fixed.

I have a VB program that I'm trying to deploy. On my machine (the app works fine straight from VS), when I try to install it from the webpage, it asks me to setup .net. I only have a choice of repairing or uninstalling .net. I've tried both but both fail at the moment. The problem with the repair is, although it goes through the entire repair procedure, it then asks me to restart my PC, but when I hit 'restart', nothing happens. So I restart manually, but when I try again, I just have to go through the same procedure again.

I am using VB .NET 2005 and I would like to compact an Access 2003 database.I've read "How to compact a Microsoft Access database by using Visual Basic .NET" from the knowledge base but it will only save in Access 2000 (link below).Attempting this with a 2003 database throws an exception about not being able to save it as an older version (losing features and what not).Is there a way to do this with a 2003 database? url....

If I run into a problem or if I find that I don't fully understand a section of code I go online and search for the information I need. Which is usually quite easy.Ive made a simple chat program using the TCPlistner and TCPclient that can be found on msdn.

In the only problem similar to mine that I was able to find the person was given the advice to change 'AnyCPU' to 'x86' in projects/properties/compile/advanced compile options. I tired doing this but was unable to find any setting that I could change to 'x86'.

We paid to have a program built as an add in to SolidWorks. I believe it was written with VB6 and now does not work on the newer 64 bit OS. Now the programmer wants an exorbinant (sp?) amount of money to update to work with the 64 bit. Is he legit or just trying to make more cash?

I use it to store link adresses to apllications I wish to hoock up to. Basicly I first select a apllication with a "Open File Dialog" and then create a folder on a specified location wherin I create a txt.file to which I write the adress. So far so good. But Windows7 just doesn't let me create a folder
