im working on a disk cleaner in VB.net 2008. im running into a unauthorized file exception.

I am just writing a simple file browser. It works without problems when I point to a specific directory but throws "UnauthorizedAccessException access to the path .... is denied" when I point to drive "C:\" or "D:\".
If Not txtToSearch.Text = Nothing Then
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
FC = 0
For Each foundfile As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("D:\", FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, Nothing)
Dim title As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFileInfo(foundfile).Name
If title.Contains(txtToSearch.Text) Then
ListBox1.Items.Add(title)
FC += 1
End If
Next
I am creating a file and then trying to read and write to it. I'm coming up with an UnauthorizedAccessException wa unhandled. My question is, How do I get around this properly or otherwise improperly to read and write to my text file?

Ive created a simple application that works fine when i debug and test it though visual studio but when i deploy the application, download it and install it onto my machine i get an error.basically when the first form loads it checks for a file called "New Folder" in my program files folder on my machine if the file is not there, then it adds the file. the code im using to do this is:
If System.IO.Directory.Exists(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.ProgramFiles & "New Folder") Then
Exit Sub()
[code]....
I am trying to get a list of files using this line of Dim files() As String = IO.Directory.GetFiles("D:", "*.*", SearchOption.AllDirectories)But it errors out on folders that are inaccessible, like the RecycleBin folder & the program stops. So how do I get a list of files in all folders, while skipping the inaccessible one
View 1 RepliesMy application creates a file by writing to System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory() & "data/" & filename...Now this works fine usually, but I just added a setup utility to the app, so now it installs to the program files directory. It installs correctly and creates the data folder, however when it tries to write the file it gets an exception "unauthorized access".

The line of code where I put "*WIN32 EXCEPTION LINE* keeps running into an error(Win32 Exception was unhandled; Access is denied). Here is the full error description:

I just finished coding a small app which access the Outlook 2007 Inbox. On my dev machine, it works OK. I created a new machine in VMWare using WinXP, Dot.Net 3.5 and Office 2007 installed and Outlook configured to my GMail account.I copied the BIN folder of my project to the new machine and ran the app and it runs OK until it scans all emails in the Inbox. This is where I get the exception:[code]When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exceptionwill be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computerrather than be handled by this dialog box.Can anyone suggest why my code can not see the Outlook 12 assembly? Do I have to create an installer file for my app before copying it to the test machine?

I started out with a console application but half way I switched to windows form in the application properties. Does that have something to do with it? I do this because I don't want to show the console. My application takes about 57 miliseconds to run. Maybe it's too fast for the clr profiler ?
The code below runs on the click of a button to create a table in a SQL Server database and then runs a stored procedure to update the table. The whole procedure runs and works fine the first time However when I click the same button again and run it immediately after I get a Object reference not set to an instance of an object. exception. Not sure why this is and what to do in this situation.

View 1 RepliesWe have a VB.NET applciation that is run from a mapped network drive. This works fine on all PCs expect those with Windows 7, on those we get the following: "application generated an exception that cannot be handled" System.Security.SecurityException was unhandled If the application folder is copied locally and run from there it works fine. I assume it is related to Windows 7 netowrk security but not sure how to work around it.
View 2 RepliesI am doing automation testing of a web application using selenium. While running automation testing of web application you encounter application errors. Is there any way to detect those exceptions. Specially exceptions that are on the page which causes the page to hang up as it is not finding the element it is looking for or page stays on the same page and waitforpage() function keeps running.
View 1 RepliesI have been teaching myself to code in VB 2008 express so please excuse this question if its truly noob. :)I have built a simple database program to record my clients details in window forms...1: I created a database and connected it to my project by using the Data Sources "Add New Connection" function2: I have a add client page - I added the fields by dragging the table onto the form after setting it as "detail mode" in the Data Sources box3: I also have a Search Client page - I added the client table by dragging it onto the form in "Grid mode" then added queries to be able to search the table.

I'm making a program from witch one could run an application with different credentials.I can compile the program successfully, but when I press the button to run the program I get the following error: Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.The system cannot find the specified file.The code behind the button is as follows:
Dim myProcess As System.Diagnostics.Process = New System.Diagnostics.Process()
myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "c:
un.bat /user:kreathyr c:getlogin.exe"
myProcess.Start()
Getlogin.exe does nothing but show the logged in username and run.bat utilizes the runas command.
I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:

I have an application where the admin user can create users and upload documents to the server for the created user to download.
When uploading a file it creates a folder using the userid as the folder name and saves in that folder within a folder called documents e.g. ~documents/77b29079-43d6-4520-bc34-77ae2af1b131/documentname.xls
The client then has to login and will see a list of available documents for that user only. The only problem is that if someone was to get hold of one of the urls to a document is can be downloaded without having to login.
Is there something I can do to stop access to these files?? I have tried editing the web.config file to only allow access to certain roles but i could still download a document without logging in.

View 1 RepliesI've got a vb (desktop) app (not a web app) that needs to connect to my website, I've been told that embedding my MySQL database credentials is a big mistake for several reasons.So, I've built a web script in PHP that runs on my server called web-service.php, it's located at www.example.com/web-service.php.Now, I'm trying to connect with this code:
Code:
Dim hwrRequest As HttpWebRequest = HttpWebRequest.Create("http://www.example.com/web-service.php")
hwrRequest.Method = "POST"
Using swWriter As New StreamWriter(hwrRequest.GetRequestStream) 'POST the info
[code]....
And when I do, I get the error "The remote server returned an error: {401} Unauthorised.", but I shouldn't need any credentials to access this. I'm just trying to POST a username and password to that page and have it query the database and then get the returned content, I'd prefer to use POST than GET so you can't see the user/pass in the URL (if possible).
EDIT: I used CPanel to password protect my website so it can't be accessed, after supplying my user & pass to access it, everything works.
I have my own login page.If any user access any page directly(without login),i want to redirect unauthorized user to login page. Using Generic Handler is there any chance?

If any directory within a set being searched by the [URL] or [URL] methods contains a junction point, the entire method fails and returns zero results on my tests under VB 2008. I would like to make the call more robust: to return the folders or files not blocked by access restrictions and to note the folders which were blocked. Do those methods offer a means to do this, or is a recursive folder-by-folder call necessary?
