View 3 RepliesI am writing a program in VB10 and the programs purpose is to read an encrypted text file and decrypt it into a textbox onscreen. You can then save the text. The problem is that it keeps saving text in files like this:
H
e
l
l
o
I cant figure it out. Here is my save array code:
First the savefiledialog
Sub SaveFileDialog()
Dim strFileName
[code]....
My homework task is to add data to an array of records and then save this to a file.
I'm having problem saving to a text file. I have the following code:
Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
Dim SW As New StreamWriter("Records.dat", False)
[Code].....
In my test example here I realise that the reason I have 4 lines written is because I have 4 elements to the array, but why am I getting this gobbledegook instead of records with a name and age?
I know I have added the data correctly to the structure because I can redisplay it elsewhere on my form. I just don't get how to save data in a structure to a text file.
My task requires use of an array and/or array of records, a text file
Private Sub LoadButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LoadButton.Click
Dim lin(8) As String, filRead As StreamReader, i, x, t, d As Integer
[Code].....
I am getting a run time error it is not saving to textfile
Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this
Team 1
Team 2
Team 3
Team 4
Etc...
The code is...
Dim Save As New SaveFileDialog
Save.Filter = "Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|ALL FILES (*.*)|*.*"
[CODE]...
Can I save an array into my .bin file then read the array again just like a string or Integer??

So all I have to do to add the new video file in the program folder and edit the text file to see the new video when the program run
I save data from datagridview to text file. I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Let say this text file i called as Drill.txt. I have another text file called header.txt which need to match its value with the value of Drill.txt file then overwrite value from Drill.txt to header.txt. Now i want to make my Drill.txt in encrypted format to prevent anyone to open that file and modify out of program. They only can modify it through the program

I have a two dimensional array as string and I what to save it to a file, what should I do?
View 1 RepliesI have a string array that is populated with thousands of entries. I am wanting the quickest way to save this data to disk and to also load it back up.
Currently I am looping through the array and appending this data to a string and then saving this string. This takes a long time.
What is the fastest/most efficient way to do this?
I am using visual studio 8. vb.net.I have an array, array1(100,8) and I want to save it as a csv file so that I can open it in excel and examine the contents more closely. The feature, of saving as a csv file, is not going to form an integral part of the finished vb app, I just need something quick and dirty because the data in the array just requires looking at in excel so that I can fully understand its significance and thus continue coding my app.
View 2 RepliesI need to save array into excel file. I'm using code taken from [URL]
Dim oExcel As Object
Dim oBook As Object
Dim oSheet As Object
[Code]....
But i want to let users to choose folder and filename themselves instead of determining location and filename like in those code above oBook.SaveAs(sSampleFolder & "Book2.xls") I wonder if i can use SaveFileDialog but i dont know how to do it. Or is there any other way to do this?
I have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another. My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..
im trying to make an example program for a teacher friend of mine
Springfield
Toledo
Youngstown
[Code]....
thats just what i have so far but im really having trouble getting the other part into a 2d array. i want the second half to look like this when done: the oppsite of what it looks like in the file.

I have this code which saves an "Image" to a SQL Server database:
vb.net
'You have the images in the PictureBoxes, now you need to store it as a Reference Image
'if the user has selected that option
Dim ms2 As New MemoryStream()
[Code].....
I am working on a PHP site at the moment that is having trouble reading that data to display the image, so I am attempting to not only save it to the DB, but also save it as a bitmap or other file type to the actual server.
How can I create an image file (not really picky on which file type) from the "arrImage()" data above?
I have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:
Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.
Here is an attached screenshot of my program layout so far:
I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
I'm trying to enter code into a button to save a text file from a text box.The text box is called txtEditor, I have created an open file button using the openFileDialog1 and have been successful with this I just can't get the saveFileDialog1 to work.
View 3 RepliesI have to save the text boxe values of a form to a text file almost like a data record. I will be saving an Employee First Name, Last Name, Dept Number, and Phone Number. This I know how to do using streamwriter.
next form which we have to use stream reader to load one record at a time. The form has a next button to load the next record. How do I seperate each record (I am sorry for calling it a record if this is inappropriate) when use streamreader and how do I load a record at a time.
I know how to open a file and use streamreader, I just don't know how to read one record at a time and move to the next one.
I need to to able to save multiple text-boxes and a combo-box to a text file. the thing is, when I go to save, I check out the .txt file manually and its saved all in one line, no spaces. when I go to "read" it with the 2nd part (<-----this is a 2 part Challenge) it even reads all from that one line in the text file. What i'm asking is how can I make my text-boxes saved in the text file on different lines. [Code]

Dim bw As New BinaryWriter(fStream)
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1500)

View 3 RepliesI first want my program to get the text from a text file(I know how that's done), but once it gets it, I want to somehow save it that it won't need to get the text again(for example, if you restart the application, it won't need to get the text from the file because the text is already saved).

View 2 Replieshow to save information into a text file from runtime VB2005. However, I wish to be able to write the information into any kind of form of file that cannot be simply opened and read by anyone (such as text file can be). Is there anyway that VB2005 can do this?
View 2 RepliesI'm using the SaveFileDialog to save listbox info into a text file. The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?
View 2 RepliesOK, I'm trying to display tooltip text for a dynamic edit box. Well, at least I'm trying to.
On my form, I've got a tool tip control which I've conveniently named ToolTip. My edit box displays OK. But, what I want to do is when the user hovers their mouse over the text box, I want the tool tip to display some text.
I think there are two problems that I'm having. I'm not convinced that I'm properly addressing a dynamic text box name. Ideally, I would want to be able to refer to the text box (but using a dynamic variable that will contain the prefix of the name). To hardcode, I would want to be able to achieve (not in this example but in theory): ABCDEFGt_0300.Text = "hello"
Dim controllerName as string = "ABCDEFG"
Dim t_0300 As New TextBox()
Me.Controls.Add(t_0300)
