VS 2008 : Handle Some Event Related To When The TreeView Scrollbar Appears Or Disappears?

Sep 12, 2009

I have a custom contro which inherits directly from Treeview. Is there any way to handle some event related to when the TreeView Scrollbar appears (it does this when the height of the stack of visible nodes exceeds the height of the control) or "disappears"?

I realize if could set up a function which checks the ItemHeight * Nodes.Count, and compares this to the control height. However, this seems clumsy. I have been exploring the object browser (and anylized TreeView with Reflector) and have not found what I am looking for. If there is a way to access the ScrollBar Property at ALL within TreeView, I have not found it.

Handle Text Dragged Onto A Button To Open A New Form?

Jul 1, 2010

I want to achieve the following:

The user drags text from any open window not related to my application ( like firefox or word, for example) onto button1 on form1 in my application. when he/she does that, a new form (called form2 that contains a richtextbox) will open and the dragged text is directly copied (or inserted) into the richtextbox of the new form. button1 has allowdrop set to true. Beyond that I don't know how to proceed.

I tried:

e.effects = DragDropEffects.Copy

But it seems it is not enough.

Handle Concurrent File Access With A Filestream/streamwriter?

Dec 10, 2009

I am writing an audit file that is writing the username, time, and the old/changed values of several variables in the application for each user when they use my application. It is using a FileStream and StreamWriter to access the audit file. All audits for each user will be written to the same file. The issue is that when two users are updating this audit file at the same time, the "old value" of each of the variable is mixing up between the users.

Dim fs As FileStream
Dim w As StreamWriter
Public Sub WriteAudit(ByVal filename As String, ByVal username As String, ByVal oldAddress As String, ByVal newAddress As String, ByVal oldCity As String, ByVal newCity As String)

[code]....

This lives in an AuditLogger class, which is referenced via an instance variable (re-allocated each time the function is accessed).

File Access - When Open The File With Something Like Notepad, It Shows Random Ascii Chars?

Oct 19, 2011

Years ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.
