Share Open Source Code And Contribute To Other Project
Feb 23, 2009
I'm looking for a place where I can share my open source code and contribute to other projects. Can anyone recommend me a site/community where there is lots of support and enthusiasm for open source?

I know VB.NET and i want to develop a program. Which i think later will be open-source if i fail to keep updating it. My question is : Is it possible to build open-source project by using .NET languages ? Or do i have to build open-source projects only using open source languages like Java,Ruby, Python etc ? ( I mean is there any restriction from microsoft on building open-source projects using their langauge and tools ?)

Im having a problem with my program which was coded in VB.net 2005. My pc is windows XP with MS Office 2003. My program works fine for users with 2003 Office but has errors on users with 2000 Office. I was able to downgrade my pc to Office 2000 so my program would reference to MS office 9.0 (2000). This proved to be successful since both 2000 and 2003 users can now print properly. The problem now is my development pc cant create any word.application ...
on this part...
Friend mWordObject As Word.Application
Dim oWord As New Word.Document
mWordObject = CreateObject("Word.Application") '- where error

I am looking for some (preferable vb.net) code to use in an asp.net application that will allow me/my users to setup calendars (that I store in SQL server db).
I am looking for something that will make it easy to schedule recurring appts (i.e. every monday, every other week on thursday at 9AM, every month,1st and 3rd tuesday, every year etc) with as many possible scenarios as possible.
I can automate most of the easy ones via a few screens, but inevitably my users come up with scenarios that require me to code and execute some custom scripts in SQL to make the entries, and I'd really like to offload this to the users.

My Visual studio crashes every time I open a specific project, because before closing VS2010 last, I forgot to close a .vb file that I had drug to my second monitor. The issue is likely related to floating tab wells in the VS Productivity Power Tools extension.now when I try to load the solution it will progress part way, but when it tries to reopen the documents that had previously been open, it crashes hard.anyway, I am trying to find out where VS stores info about the code documents that were open at last project close, so I can clear it out.does anyone know where VS stores info about the previously opened code documents? I've checked the project and solution files but neither appears to hold this info. I know that the location must be within the project however, since getting a new version of the codebase from source control corrects the issue (but I still have code to check in...)

Wondering if it is possible. It works on the idea that all files share common code. The program would ideally analyse the source file and compare it to the reference files. It would then find common parts of the code and write it to a rebuild file. At the end the rebuild file and the reference files would then be able to rebuild the source file without it being present.
For Example.
source file code = xxyyzyzyxw
ref file 1 = xyxxzyzxwyy
ref file 2 = zxxwyzzywxx
The program would then analyse these files and make a rebuild file like the following
source(0,1) = ref1(2,3)
source(2,3) = ref1(10,11)
source(4,7) = ref2(5,6) + ref2(5,6)
source(8,9) = ref2(2,3)
Thus you would be able to build the source file using these instructions and the reference files.

In VB.NET, my application is quite simple, and it accesses many images and creates a list with them. The images are in my application's Resources folder. The images are accessed in my code where I typed the path, in my PC, how to reach said folder.Works like a charm, my project displays the images etc.Now I go to Debug->Build.Now I go to the bin folder, release folder, and find my application. I upload it.I share the download to a friend. My question is, will the images my application should show will appear? Considering the path I created in the code was manually written?

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

I am trying to open a file from a server
I currently have
Dim attachedFilePath As String = "\myservermyshare est.txt"
File.Open(attachedFilePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read)
This does not open a file.
However, if I change the path to be local then there is no issue.
Dim attachedFilePath As String = "c:... est.txt"
So, is there a way to open a file from remote storage?

I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?

So I am working on a small program that will tell the engineers the status of their testers; whether they are up or down with the time and date in addition there is also a comment box. I have created a program that has all the right buttons and options. Where I am stuck is on the save option. I want the engineers to be able to make changes to the status/date/comments and by clicking the save button to save all changes(in the status and date boxes) and text(in the comment box) so that when the program is opened at a later time or by another user on the network from a diffrent work station the latest changes from whomever will be present. The code that follows only allows the changes to be seen by on that specific computer and they are not shared to everyone who uses the program that accesses it over the network. Any help would be awsome!! Hope this is clear!
How can I get it so everyone sees all changes over the network regardless of the computer they are using? any help would be amazing!!

I have a program written in VB.net 2003 that are folks run under alternate credentials. Inside the app there is an option to open a UNC path to a network share. We were running Windows XP SP3 and IE6. The code is simple just a call to the explorer.exe with /root,\UNCPath. After installing IE 8 onto the machine this no longer works. Best I can tell the code is still working but now being executed in non interactive mode so nothing opens up. You can however see a new spawned explorer.exe running under the system account for each attempt at opening a UNC Path. Any ideas what IE8 could have done to cause this behavior?

I have a working Windows Forms app (split into an EXE and a few DLLs). Now I've been asked to look at creating another app (MyAppLite) that has only a very small subset of the functionality. Think of it as similar to MS Word Viewer vs. MS Word.
Everything that I need to build MyAppLite is contained in the main solution - essentially I need to use a couple of the WinForms and whatever bits in the DLLs they call into.
What would be the best way to do this?
I was thinking of creating another Project in my solution for MyAppLite, then adding the necessary source files as links (using Add Existing Item > Add As Link in Solution Explorer).
I definitely wouldn't want to maintain 2 copies of the source code. FYI it's a .NET 2.0 VB app, using VS2008.

The .NET security model throws security errors whenever a .NET exe is run from a file share. The error does not appear when ran from a local drive. Does anyone know of a way around this without requiring the code to be signed?

I've been struggling for hours now to get some working code to list the share permissions of a remote share. I've got WMI code which uses win32_share which lists the shares and path and it works great. I"m now trying to add in a routine to get the share permissions as well.
I've searched just about every site for some sample code and can only find some C# (I think) code.
