View 2 RepliesI need to open a new instance of IE and direct it to a web page when a user takes a specific action.Used are random so setting anything on their machine is not an option.This works great on my local machine in developent but when deployed to my server it fails with no error.I must be missing a permission or something simple understanding that on the server things are run under the ASPNET account.My code is in a code class, myCode.We are in VS 2008 and IIS 6.Tried a couple of different things, they all fail silently.

Imports System.ComponentModel

I want to open explorer to a specific destination but both shell() and process.start() are not opening explorer. They both open other applications like calc and notepad though. It works fine when debugging but not after I publish.

View 3 RepliesOn a web server i have an aspx page which calls an EXE, waits, gets the result and sends it back to the user through the browser.
command_line= "lsrunas.exe /user:Administrator /password*** /domain:myPC /command:""d:onair ts_app ts.exe /f:" & FileName & " " & Text & """ /runpath:""d:onair ts_app"""
tts.exe produces an mp3 file which contains synthesized speech based on the given text.lsrunas.exe is the known utility to run the exe as another user.
Shell( command_line, True ) If i run the 'command_line' from the Start->Run menu (its win xp pro), then the EXE works ok. But when it runs through the aspx page and Shell, it produces an error and terminates. Sorry i cant recall the error code (something like 0x400...) but in a little search i did it has something to do with DLL initialization, the app cant start correctly.
As i said, the 'command_line' (as given from me above) works ok using the start->run dialog. i am pretty sure it has something to do with Rights. This service made from me a year ago, it worked then after lot of headaches, but now after a new windows installation i cant remember what i did to make it work.
I'm just getting started in VB.net using vb.net 2010 . I thought what I had left to do today was simple but not to be.I am simply trying to open a zip file that the user has selected.No mater how I have tried to send the filename (with quotes added, chr(34) & selfilename, set permissions, confirm file is found) I get Error 53 File Not Found.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Dim ReturnValue As Boolean
SelFileName = ListBox1.SelectedItem 'Contains the full path and filename

If I use the shell command: notepadID = Shell("C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe", AppWinStyle.MaximizedFocus)When note pad opens I want to control the fileopen box. I can use the SendKeys.SendWait("%(FO)") to get the box opened but then how can I control the initial directory and the file type filter? I would much rather open the fileopen box in code and control it that way. How can I use the code below to control the fileopen on a process that the shell command opened up? [code]
View 5 RepliesI know the "Process.Start" function, but it creates a new object of the cmd shell which terminates itself when the Python script is at its end. How can i open the original Windows Command Shell so that the Python file can run to its end without the box getting closed?

for exp. this the code that i use to open calculator but how can i use , appminimize, maximize, apphide, normal, show etc. command that i can use in visual basic ?
Sorry if i had make about tags.
I would like to launch a command line exe I created. For now it's a test program that writes Hello World to the console. I can launch it, but the shell window it displays it in only stays for a split second.
I know I can add a line to my console mode program (readline). But I would like to control it from the process launch. I will be using console mode programs that I did not write myself, and many of them don't stall the output. I can't find the right properties and methods to control the default shell behavior!
In my master page init sub I have a block of data/text being written to a control. The basic idea was that it should be available on every page (obviously). However, I have come across a situation in which I need this to NOT happen on a certain page. Is there anything I can do, short of making a new master page for this specific page, to make this work? I also use a basepage, if that ever needs to come into play.

I need to open a *.py file in the shell (DOS) box, but it returns an error that no file was found at the specified path. But this path is completely correct. Unless Visual Basic are referencing to paths in another matter than C#? 'Cause I am developing in C# and referenced to VB to do this.
View 3 Repliesi am very new @ visual basic just worked in php and html before this i downloaded visual studio 2008 with sp1 before a few days and made my first steps whit it. i want to make something like an software package for myself just to trie out some things, and i would like to add (firefox.3.1.exe to MY RESOURCES, and after that i want to make something like a button and a button click event that when i clikc the button it opens the .exe file in my resourses and i can install it)so i know how to add it to my resources. so is there maybe any way to use SHELL to open a file called firefox_setup.exe in MY.RESOURCES?
View 3 RepliesI'm going to attempt to make a shell replacement for the Windows default shell: explorer.exe. I'm not sure if its possible using Vb.Net, but I can't seem why not. My end goal is to use a custom made shell for a Windows Preinstallation Environment instead of the default command prompt. I plan to use a 3rd party program to compile the program with the .NET Framework. Otherwise, it wouldn't work because Windows PE does not support the .NET Framework.
View 1 Replieswhether or not I can print a specific page from a .pdf?
The VB application has a folder of images, the same image has a large and a small size to accommodate for screen resolution. The application gives you the ability to print either image. Problem is that both of the images are blurry. The same image contained in the .pdf is crisp and sharp when printed from within the .pdf.
Can I have the VB application print a specific page in the .pdf? or is there a way to copy the sharp .pdf image and place it in the folder of images?
I am creating a application,at present my application is in development stage..My app has a web browser control and a button the web browser will load you tube videos in the web page.i need to do display the video but i like to skip the other parts of the web page.this means showing video player on the web page and skipping the other parts..all it is setting the height and width of the web browser to display the specific part of a web page(scroll to the control and display it centered)
View 2 RepliesI have a simple WinForm that is using a Tab Control to simplify data entry. The very last page has a text box that allows the user to "set a name" for the file. I really want to simplify this and suggest how the file should be named. What I want
is for when the tab page is entered (consider that generically) that the text box is pre-populted with a name.
This code will do what I want, but only the first time the tab page is entered. what I am apparently missing or a better way to do this?

View 15 RepliesI was wondering if it was possible to check if the file "test.txt" is open? and if so then display a message that the file is in use? My biggest problem is that the file can be opened in notepad, word, excel etc. I have some basic coding, which checks if the file is open - what I am trying to do is check if the file is currently open and if its not in use then proceed with the coding, I have the following coding so far.
Dim Process() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("notepad")
Dim Process2() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("word")
