I could use Qfecheck.exe to verifies the installation of Windows 2000 and Windows XP hotfixes and read its output into vb.net.But it is not compatible with vista. How can i find the hotfixes installed in vista?
I am using Vista Home Premuim I have installed VB6.0. I got the message saying its not compatible and it installed... the problem is when i open vb i get this message "automation error error accessing the ole registry" and i cant use any components or OCX's not even the ones that come with vb like internet control... is there away around this?
I have created a Windows service that runs on one of our servers. The service lisens to incoming connections on a set socket port, runs a series of WMI queries on the requested computer in a new thread (the socket accepts a string value as input which is the hostname to scan), creates an xml file based on the collected data, and posts it back to a webserver. This works perfectly on all WMI queries, but i have one function that gets all installed software from the requested host using the RegistryKey.OpenRemoteBaseKey method to get all keys from the "SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall" key on the target host. If the the target machine OS is Window Vista or 7, it returns no values. If i run this code on the target machine it works, but not from the service on a server. The service is installed and runs with full domain administrator rights. I guess this is a permission issue, but i have not found a good solution on how to solve it on the internet. As a workaround i use WMI to get a list of installed software from computers running Vista or 7. The problem with the WMI method is that it's very slow. It takes 10 - 15 seconds just to loop thru all ManagementObjects in the Querycollection. Maybe i could filter the WMI query better before starting the loop ?
I have sent out software created with VB2008 Express and everything has installed correctly on my PC which is running windows vista. But they can't get it to install, one is running XP the other Vista, they get the following errors
Windows XP
Microsoft.VisualBasic.Powerpacks.Vs Version 9.0.0.0. to be installed in the Global Assembly Cache
Windows Vista
system.windows.forms.data visualization version 3.5.0.0 be installed in the global assembley cache first
hen I launch a .net application on a machine that does not have .net installed I recieve the "In order to run this application please install .net framework 2.0" - i'm not sure what exactly it says but something to that effect. Now if i take the same application and use winzip self-extractor to call the exe, the message is no longer shown it just craps out.
I have a Windows XP box that is showing vulnerable by a 3rd party scanner for MS08-070 in regards to four OCX files tied somehow to Visual Basic 6.0. However VB6 is not installed on this computer; attempts to download MS08-070 and patch doesn't work.I'm guessing there is a some other application that may have dropped these in my c:windowssystem32 folder. The file versions are older as compared to what MS08-070 say they should be so I'd like to get them patched/updated.Microsoft's recommendation in the article is to update the application on a machine that has the latest patches for VB6 and redistribute that application.
I am writing an app that picks up information from wmi/securitycenter2 to show what antivirus, antispyware and firewall are installed It also returns a productstate value which shows whether product is enabled/disabled and whether definitons are up-to-date or outdated
Is there anyway to find what virus software is installed and whether it is up to date, and whether firewall enabled/disabled from within a VB app?
It is for a health check tool for my customers, so picks up and shows lots of info such as ram, processor etc and want to be able to show antivirus name and as much info as I can about version, updates etc
on good computers direct show works fine on vista computers that are a few years old; after playing a few (4 hours or so) videos my program crashes on this line:
[Code]....
when i say crashes it just stops responding ... i hit ctl+break and it has a green arrow on that line that means it's busy executing the constructor of the filter graph it seems to run fine on descent brand new vista machines, the memory usage is minimal on all occurrences. seems fairly constant on older machines.
i compile my form with the below code when i run it on vista work fine without any problem but when i try to run in on XP cant run... that happened with any XP machine.[code]when i run my exe to other Vista machines work fine... but on xp NO.
Private Declare Function FindWindow Lib "user32" Alias "FindWindowA" (ByVal lpClassName As String, ByVal lpWindowName As String) As Long Private Declare Function SetWindowPos Lib "user32" (ByVal hWnd As Long, ByVal hWndInsertAfter As Long, ByVal X As Long, ByVal Y As Long, _ ByVal cx As Long, ByVal cy As Long, ByVal wFlags As Long) As Long

on XP Pro, IsUserRole(eUserType.Administrator) returns true, if the class is administrator, and false if it's limited...
On Vista, it returns true, if it's the first administrator account, and false for anything else... I created a second administrator account on Vista, and it shows in code as "Standard" (or limited) user, the same as if I made a "Managed Account" on Vista...
My #Region " [IsUserRole] " Public Enum eUserType Administrator = 0
I am been working on an a small app that has a Forms.Webbrowser control that navigates to a Adobe Flash program. I have developed the app on Vista 32bit platform and have had no problems. I have sent the app to a couple of people to test out and one is using Vista 64bit and is running into a problem. I know the webbrowser control just uses the underlying base framework of IE. The problem on the 64 bit machine is when the site is navigated to it says that it needs to have Flash installed. When the user goes to Adobe's site it says they need to use a 32bit browser.
As stated on Adobe site here:[URL] the Flash player need to be in a 32 bit browser. What options do I have to be able fix this problem? Is there another control that I can use that would be the same in a 32bit platform and 64bit platform? Besides navigating to the Flash program, the browser also goes to standard web pages.
I have been trying for days now how to create a process to the user to easily create a connection to any installed data types they have installed. I have found an example right inside vb2008. I never use this because I code my own connections, but this would be real nice if I could include it or duplicate it.

The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.

I'm writing a program for my algebra students to practice integers.Stuff like....
3-6 -4 + (-5) 3(-4) -15 3 etc.
I want to show an explanation and for the addition and subtraction, I want to show it on a number line. For example, if the problem is 3 - 7, the number line should show and arrow to that goes right to 3, and then left 7 units (starting from 3). Then the student can see that the answer is -4.I could probably do this with some string manipulation, but what would be the easiest way to do it in a picture format? Maybe a bitmap.
I have made an application using an access database. When I publish the application the database is set to be included. But when I install the application, the database does not install, then when I start my application I get an error because it cannot find my database.
