how to call a stored function in oracle through vb.net.From vb.net should i able to pass the values to arguments of that function without knowing the parameter names?Example: I have a function,Create or Repalce Function Func_Name(param1 Varchar2,param2 varchar2)
Inorder to call this function through vb.net, we need to give
parameterargs.paramtername="param1"
Is there anyway so that i cannot use the parameter name and call the function

I need to execute a stored function in oracle or sql through vb.net. I created a command object. Depending on the database type(oracle or SQL) i am preparing the Command text as Select functionName(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?) from dual; (For Oracle) Adding the parameter values of the function. Now performing the ExecuteScalar which is not working saying invalid parameter. This works with ODBC connection string. But ODBC doesn't with 64bit. My Requirement: Code should execute a user defined stored procedure by taking the values at runtime.

in my SQL 2005 database I have defined this stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[CheckOrders] (
@PK_Customer uniqueidentifier,
@Amount bigint OUTPUT)
[code]....
When I check the value of nAmount it stil contains the original value -1 the output value didn't return from the stored procedure although the number of records updated is 0 or more. The procedure was checked, it works and there are records updated and the value of @Amount is SET to a value 0 or more. I just don't get the values back. eventough the parameter @Amount is defined as OUTPUT. I also tried with outParam.Direction = Data.ParameterDirection.InputOutput instead of outParam.Direction = Data.ParameterDirection.Output . Same result. How do I get the value back from the stored procedure?

I've been trying to figure out how to call an Oracle 10g stored function and insert the return value into my VB.NET application. Stored procedures I've been already able to figure out, but I have no idea about functions.I have the parameter set to send to the function, the oracle function works perfect, but what VB coding to I need to get that return value. The return value is a CHAR.
Again the Oracle DB is in their 10g release.
My version of VB.NET Is Visual Studio 2010.
Also I've beent trying to use the Imports System.Data.OracleClient namespace but it comes up with an error saying its not available. Right now I use System.Data.OleDb. How can I import the oracleclient?

I am creating a function and want to have IntelliSense pop down the list of valid options for a certain parameter in the same way that the MsgBox function behaves when you are typing your argument for which buttons you wish to include (such as MsgBoxStyle.OkCancel). I have done my best to search the internet but haven't found a thing which comes close to what I'm seeking. My monkeying around hasn't produced a satisfactory solution, yet, either.

The reason my json is structured like this is that the webmethod that I'm calling via jquery is returning a dictionary. If it's impossible to work with the above, what do I need to change about the way I'm returning the data?

I connected to the Informix server using RazorSQL, created a stored procedure and tested it, getting the expected answer, so the procedure exists in the database in some form.
I then run the following code:

This error does not occur when calling the stored procedure from a live SQL connection.

I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for

I have a stored procedure to update a table, but needs a couple of values from another table.
the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:
Select @iStatusDropDownValueID = iDropDownValueID
From DropDownValue
Inner Join DropDownValueType On DropDownValue.iDropDownValueTypeID =
[Code].....
First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.

I'm having troble getting my code to recognize the parameter for my Stored Procedure.This code below show how I select my files (commented out all other files to make sure one works first)It selects my files through the OpenFileDialog box, it loads the name & location of the csv file into memory and then I want to run a SP to import the csv into my database. I'm currently writing a small app that takes data provided by an SQL stored procedure and makes it available for easy export for non-tech savvy users. I'm trying to make this as generic as possible, in that you should be able to plug in just about any SP and follow my template to have an export utility. I'd like to add a way to get the column names before running the SP from the SP itself. I had assumed you could just run the SP with impossible values so nothing is returned, then get the columns from the resulting VB.NET DataTable. However, if there is no data returned, the column names aren't returned either. How can I get the column names from the SP without having to hard-code them?
