How would you select the last part of a string starting at a specific character count. For example I would like to get all text after the 3rd comma. but I get an error saying "StartIndex cannot be less than zero."
Dim testString As String = "part, description, order, get this text, and this text"
Dim result As String = ""
result = testString.Substring(testString.IndexOf(",", 0, 3))
wanted how you can get get characters starting from the right most of that string input, not from the left.
View 4 RepliesI'd like to be able to match a specific sequence of characters, starting with a particular substring and ending with a particular substring. My positive lookahead regex works if there is only one instance to match on a line, but not if there should be multiple matches on a line. I understand this is because (.+) captures up everything until the last positive lookahead expression is found. It'd be nice if it would capture everything until the first expression is found.
Here is my regex attempt:
@@FOO[(.*)(?=~~)~~(.*)(?=]@@)]@@
Sample input:
@@FOO[abc~~hi]@@ @@FOO[def~~hey]@@
Desired output: 2 matches, with 2 matching groups each (abc, hi) and (def, hey).
Actual output: 1 match with 2 groups (abc~~hi]@@ @@FOO[def, hey)
Is there a way to get the desired output?

View 7 RepliesI'm trying to create a valid RegEx replacement pattern for correctly formatting specific .XML file names. Specifically, if a file name does not begin with a prefix, let's say, ACE_. If the XML file name and extension does not begin with ACE_, prepend the string ACE_ to the file name.For example, if my input source string is the following:
Widgets.xml
I would like to execute a single RegEx Replacement that would result in the string being:
ACE_Widgets.xml.
Conversely, if the string already begins with ACE_, I would like it to remain unchanged. Also,how can I include the pattern ".xml" to ensure that the string pattern for the file name and extension ends with ".xml" in the same matching pattern for the RegEx Replacement pattern? As for the match, I have some luck with the following:
^ACE_{1}[dD]+
Which indicates there is a match for the pattern if the input string is ACE_Widgets.xml and no match if the string is Widgets.xml
The RegEx pattern would suffice, but if you need to know the language in which I'd like to use the replacement pattern is in .NET 4.0 in either C# or VB.NET.
The following posting is close to what Im looking for, but with the inclusion of the *ix directory path prefix, and the use of preg_replace() in PHP, I'm having a bit of a struggle getting it to work with what I need to do:

How will I select a substring with 2 criteria? I have a Richtextbox where I select a number after a : with this code; For Each line As String In Richtextbox1.Lines Dim equalsPos As Integer = line.IndexOf(":") + 1 txtFound.AppendText(line.Substring(equalsPos, line.Length - equalsPos)) Next This is working ok, but the whole line.length is appended for number2. The line ex. Some text:my number some text-my number2. I want my number appended to txtFound, and my number2 appended to txtFound2. With my code only number2 can be appended correct.
View 4 RepliesWe have a multi-line control that we are attempting to prevent the Enter/Return key from being used to create a new line.Strangely enough, "AcceptsReturn" as False does not prevent this.So we added the following:
Private Sub txtAddr_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtAddr.KeyPress
If e.KeyChar = Microsoft.VisualBasic.ChrW(13) Then
e.Handled = True
End If
End Sub
This works fine, however one of the QA people discovered hitting Control + Enter still puts in a newline.How would we prevent this?And why does AcceptsReturn being False not work as it appears it should? What is the intended purpose of it?

I want get the most specific from the current url in visual basic .net.I've tried several code but it just was the same.I have this code:
Dim CurrentURL1 As String = Request.Url.PathAndQuery
The code will result like: /FolderName/CurrentUrl.aspx
What I want is, just get the 'CurrentUrl.aspx'.How to get that?
so in a program I'm working on in VB.NET I'm trying to make it so I can take in a list of strings (each on a different line). For each line I want to take in the line, and break it up into three parts. The first part goes from the beginning of the string to the first colon in the string, the second part goes from the first colon to the at symbol, and the last part goes from the at symbol to the end of the string.
For example, I'd take in a line of the series of lines: hello:world@yay
I'd want to break it into three separate strings of "hello", "world", and "yay".
How would I do such a thing in VB.NET?
Is it possible that after you find a string, backup until you find a specific character and copy it?For example, I am looking for "bread". The text is milk8andbread. Would it be possible to start at bread, back up until eight, and just copy "andbread"?

I am trying to search for a term on this site: [URL] and return the definition of the term to a RichTextBox. I can search for the term easily enough. My initial idea was to find a div class similar to every definition, and in the source returned from my WebRequest there is always the div class:
<div class="luna-Ent">
So for example, if you search the term "lol" and view the page source, the definition for that term is wrapped as follows:
<div class="luna-Ent">laughing out loud; laugh out loud: used as a response to something funny or as a follow-up to something said only as a joke.</div>
My problem is that I cannot split the string, which contains the entire text from this web response, leaving just the above. Which I would further split to leave just the definition.Every time I attempt to split the string I get a bogus result with randomly cut up words and nonsense. There is only one <div class="luna-Ent">, so I have no idea why this isn't working when it does with a simpler string such as "lol?55?44" which you would split using "?".Here is the code so far, please excuse the crappy variable names. I always structure my stuff like that when testing?
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyDown
If e.KeyCode = Keys.Enter Then
e.SuppressKeyPress = True

Instead of my method, is there any way to return only the data, from the web request, wrapped in that div class?

I try to create my own OpenGL font system, and I need to get the size of each character I want to include in a Sprite texture. All works well and accurately, except for the character "&" (ascii 38). Even if I change the font, this character always return zero for the width. Height is good.
The strangest thing is that, if I try to measure the concatenation of "&&" (Chr(38) & Chr(38)), the result seems good ! I haven't check to see if the same code point in another range of the same font product the same error, so I don't know if the workaround "if char is "38" test the size on "38+38" will always work.
EDIT: I completely forgotten to say I'm under VB.Net (but can understand C#) and I use OpenGL with OpenTK for the binding. TextRenderer is a class of GDi+. I use this to create my font texture. This is really not an OpenGL issue.
