I try to create my own OpenGL font system, and I need to get the size of each character I want to include in a Sprite texture.All works well and accurately,except for the character "&" (ascii 38). Even if I change the font, this character always return zero for the width. Height is good.

The strangest thing is that, if I try to measure the concatenation of "&&" (Chr(38) & Chr(38)), the result seems good ! I haven't check to see if the same code point in another range of the same font product the same error, so I don't know if the workaround "if char is "38" test the size on "38+38" will always work.
EDIT: I completely forgotten to say I'm under VB.Net (but can understand C#) and I use OpenGL with OpenTK for the binding. TextRenderer is a class of GDi+. I use this to create my font texture. This is really not an OpenGL issue.
why Graphics.MeasureString is so different to TextRenderer.MeasureText?

I realize that one returns SizeF and the other Size... but the results are over 50px different in the width ?
I know that you can return the length of a string, which results in the number of characters and spaces. Is there a way to return a width of the string in say, pixels,inches or some unit of measurement.

We have a multi-line control that we are attempting to prevent the Enter/Return key from being used to create a new line.Strangely enough, "AcceptsReturn" as False does not prevent this.So we added the following:

I want all the listview columns to be in auto width. I tried adding the next line of code but then only my first column fills my entering listview width. All other columns are not affected!

What I am trying to do is fill the contents of the datagridview with the cell contents. There are two ways to do this.
1) Either set the DGV width to the cell contents width, or
2) Autoadjust the width of the cells to the width of the DGV.
how to implement either of these two approaches?
This Winforms app has a toolStripComboBox within a MenuStrip container that displays Culture Info languages.The toolStripComboBox's width is not expanding to accommodate the size of the string. The strings are dynamically added to the combobox from underlying code. How do I get the comboboxe's width to expand? In VB .net, even though the pen width is set to 1, the thinnest lines are way too "thick". The equivalent line width in VB .net using a pen width of 1 is about the same as the DrawWidth = 4 in VB6. So, my question is, how can I print very thin lines to a laser printer in VB .net?

View 2 RepliesDrawing text on a picbox I notice if the picbox has a border style set then the TextRenderer.DrawText rectangle area needs to be adjusted slightly otherwise text may be drawn very near the picbox borders and the text doesn't look as clean, but I'm not sure what those offsets should be, I hard coded them in, see code under "' area to draw". btw, the code draws the first word of text in bold and then the other words as regular. I want to use the added functionality (for word wrap etc) of the TextRenderer.DrawText method.... but this does not seem to work correctly on the Graphics object in the PrintPage event in the PrintDocument Object and does not take into consideration any transformations that have been applied. Does anyone have a replacement way or workaround for this?

The code (C#) is from: connect.microsoft.com. See below for a VB conversion.The code takes a graphics object, creates a device context and copies the transform matrix from the graphics object. It works, but I'd like, also, to set the TextRenderingHint, so I tried:

I'm trying to do this by reading the original text file byte by byte, converting it to a character, and then either adding that character to a memory stream or writing the unicode character to the memory stream. Then I'm saving the memory stream to the original file.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.

But when I iterate over the characters, the diacritic marks come out as separate characters (as I would expect since this is unicode)However, a u character is different than a u plus an accent for the purposes of this program and needs to be distinguished.
