I am writing an add-in for VB.NET 2008. I am getting some strange behavior when I run the generated form and was wondering if anyone has any clue as to why this happens. I re-booted and started fresh and get the same results.
I am trying to select the contents of the textbox when the user clicks on it using the Enter event. I tried the following
private sub txtPMAItemPMAStatus_Enter(sender as system.object, byval e as system.eventargs) handles txtPMAItemPMAStatus.enter
With txtPMAItemPMAStatus

After I click OK on the MessageBox the text is selected. Could it be because it is a spawned instance of the IDE?
is there an option to retain Intellisense suggestions but turn off the auto-complete completely in VB 2010? Since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I find that Intellisense's auto-complete is far too eager to replace code. It often happens that while typing a section of code I will find that I need a new variable. Rather than back up in the code and create the variable, I want to be able to type on and add the Dim statement once my train of thought has reached a good stopping point. However, as soon as I try to use an undefined variable or method or property, Intellisense jumps in to replace what I have typed with gibberish.
I like Intellisense showing what methods, properties and parameters are available; however I would like to turn off the feature which automatically triggers auto-complete whenever I type ahead.
(pardon me for re-using someone else's wording - but it seems this question comes up in each NEW version of the IDE) Does anyone know how to disable VB autosave? I like to open a working solution/project, mess around with it, and if I cant get it working, I like to exit without saving so that the original working version is left.
But silly VB 2010 autosaves changes, therefore stuffing up, a once working solution/project. I can understand autosaving whilst working though a large solution, but I prefer to click save once I have accomplished a routine, in the solution/project.
My project is built in VB.Net.Many times I find that Visual Studio has added subroutines to my code files even if a subroutine of the exact same name already exists. This can cause debugging nightmares as the new empty routine seems to override the correct routine. I think this can happen if I double-click on a control in the form Design view, but I try not to do this.Is there any way to turn this off?
Example:
Hand entered
Private Sub TS_Main_View_Network_Click Handles TS_Main_View_Network.Click
System added:
Private Sub TS_Main_View_Network_Click( ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TS_Main_View_Network.Click
I guess that the system adds the second routine because the argument list (which is unneeded but may be required) list is missing from the first routine.
i am trying to auto select the email value from a 2nd cbobox when the user selects a name from the first cbobox using the first cbobox's index. (the values all line up with each other just fine)This is my current code:

Right now I can add background music in my program by using this code
My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Music_3, AudioPlayMode.Background)
I can also turn it off and change the music by using this code
My.Computer.Audio.Stop()
My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Another_Music, AudioPlayMode.BackgroundLoop)
Is it possible to pause the music then if I resume the music it will just continue the flow? I mean if I pause the background music in 33 seconds and the music has 50 seconds and I resume it will just continue playing in 33,34,35 etc.. seconds?
I was wondering if their was a way to for me to turn off events and then turn them back on in my program or just queue them up until i am ready for them to be excuted. Kinda like how a OS turns on and off interupts. Is this one of those general programming no-nos?

I've tried to use "contains @term" instead of "like @term" but

View 4 RepliesWriting a little program for my wife and thought it would be cool to have the calendar auto select the next day of her choice when she opens it. Example it's Monday and she opens the program to make notes about things for her girly get together every Thursday. Right now she opens it and has to select the next Thursday first to get the date.
What i thought would be cool is if the program picks the next Thursday for her, in the future the night may change to Tuesday so i don't mind hard coding the selection for now as it wont change all the time.Is there an easy calendar or date picker routine available for this or is it a roll up the sleeves, i searched and not finding anything.

Heres my problem, My app outputs info into a textbox as a log and appends the new lines to the end of the textbox, is there a way i can scroll the textbox so it displays the end of the text? I had considered writing the line at the top and appending the rest of the data to it but the line is hard to do this way (it uses info from 2 seperate subs and would need a global or a new textbox) and ideally i would like the info at the end in chronological order. the textbox is refreshed at the end of each entry.

what I need to do is automatically (through a timer or similar method) look up a newly added record, and if it exists, have a number returned and populated to a specific textbox. I have the looking up the record and getting the field I want returned working fine, but I just cannot find any way to have it populate a textbox. Another small wrench in the works is that it's a web form. I think I'd be ok with a Windows form.The reason I need this is, the user will not be sure when this record has been added and it would work fine if they wanted to click a button until it is actually added to the table, retrieved and the number needed populates the textbox. However, the folks who gave me the spec prefer the user not to have to keep clicking a button for an undetermined amount of time. So, I've been trying to use a timer. I've tried everything I could think of to get it to populate the textbox. Even javascript didn't seem to work and neither did trying to a redirect back to itself. Everything is fine except for filling in the texbox.

First problem I encountered was there doesn't seem to be anything like a continous form(I know there is a datagridview). So i thought i would create a flowlayoutpanel. Place lots of textboxes on it and fill each of textboxes with information form my dataset. now on to the problem. one of the textboxes is the item description field. This field can have one word or many words. I have been trying to get the textbox to auto expand in height to cover the text. Below is the code I have put together to try and get this to work correctly.

What is the best approximation algorithm to implement full-text fuzzy search. For example we have a dropdownlist with the following data (from SQL datasource):
Company Policy
Product Catelog
Our Partners
Now I want to replace it with an autocomplete textbox, such that when the letter "p" is typed the list shows all three results. It should start matching the first letter of the first word or second word and so on. Also, it should highlight or make the matched letters bold in the suggestions dropdown.Is there a readymade control for ASP.NET (with JS or jQuery) to deliver all the aforementioned functionality? Otherwise if I have to implement it, is there a tutorial/blog which point me in the right direction?
