Apr 19, 2012i'm writing a program that gets text from word document and puts it in a richtextbox. The problem is the characters are unreadable once in the richtextbox.

Certain Characters In A Richtextbox?
Apr 10, 2012This is my first post at the forums, if I did something wrong making this topic Okey so here is the deal. The program task is to take 50 codes including letters and numbers. Take them and insert them into a webpage(webbrowser1) witch is designed to deal with these codes(3 fields). To check if the codes is valid etc.
Here is what I got :

What this does it takes textbox1.text input(first part of code) and inserts in the first field at the website.The to others to exactly the same.But instead of having 3 diffrent texboxes I want it like in this pic.

VS 2010 RichTextBox & CrLf Characters
Mar 2, 2012If I set the Text property of a RTB to a string that has CrLf's in it, it seems the RTB reduces the CrLf's to a single character & screws up the positioning to set the SelectionStart property.So, for example, if I know the position of a character in the original string & I set the Selection Start value to that position, the selection highlighting will be off by 1 character if the start position is preceded by a CrLf & off by 2 characters if preceded by 2 CrLf's, etc.So how can I determine the correct position to specify my SelectionStart value?

Oct 3, 2011For the past 2-3 weeks, I've been on VB Express working on different word processors, working myself up from the level of the Windows Notepad to Wordpad, and eventually (hopefully) something as good as OpenOffice.org Writer or Microsoft Word.I'm currently stuck on something that I can't quite figure out. My question is basically this, "How do you add subscript and superscript characters (not just the few numbers in the character map) to a richtextbox control?!" I'd be very grateful to anyone who could provide me with some help in this area.

Oct 24, 2010I have some code which displays data in a hexadecimal format, so each line of the display looks like this ...
000000 xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx cccccccccccccccc
... where the left six characters are an offset and each xx represents one character and the string of cs on the right are the actual characters.
I've learned that I have to keep control characters out of that string of cs or the display gets messed up. I've been using this code and it works fine (when it's not commented out). (binbuf is a Byte array)

DataGridView Display Unreadable?
Apr 14, 2010In our application there are many DataGridViews used but just one grid has a problem it displays the data out of alignment with the grid. If you scroll it displays over the top of the original data til eventually the data becomes a black line. There are only about 30 columns and 50 rows of data displayed and the grid is databound to SQL Server. We are using VS2008
Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?
Fonts On Button Text Image Unreadable ?
Jan 28, 2010Using XP and VB 2008 Express for development of Widows Forms App.I am setting a button's .text to "" and then assigning a bitmap with some text written on it to the button's .image. Everything looks great on the development compter, but is almost unreadable on test computers using Vista and Windows 7. This despite trying a number of different combinations of (standard?) font family and size (including Arial, Verdana, Microsoft Sans Serif). Why?
Details....I have a button on a form (32 pixels x 32 pixels).I set the button.text field to "". I create a bitmap a little smaller than the button, and DrawText on it (I can't simply use the button.text field because I want to place text in different areas of the button and draw special characters.I use the following code to create the bitmap:

I wonder if somehow fonts are being anti-aliased or otherwise cleaned up by the system on the development computer, but not on the other computers. I also wonder if I should be creating just a simple 30 pixel x 30 pixel bitmaps, or perhaps should be trying somehow to get the buttons 'device context' or something. Or, is there an alternative to DrawString that draws text more intelligently than just setting the nearest pixel either black or transparent, which is what seems to be happening (ie, no anti-aliasing or creation of shades of gray). Maybe another pen? Is there an "anti-aliasing" pen?

Sep 30, 2009I am trying to use the xml comments suggested (with VB in a ASP.net project in Visual Studio 2008).I want to give examples of how to use a class, for example, so I write [code]This is readable in the code itself, but the resulting help information in the Object Browser is unusable.The summary, parameters and returns stuff is OK,but the example code is all as one block, with a single space instead of the line endings.I know that most XML treats all whitespaces the same (space, line ending, etc.) but since <code> is described as being for multi-line code blocks, I expected it to respect line endings and indentation.Ideally it would colour-code the code as visual studio does, but the least it should do is respect space (similar to the HTML <pre> tag).Otherwise how is it useful for multi-line code blocks?

Regex - .NET: Manipulating TextBox Input: Dash Every 5 Characters And Removing Special Characters?
Dec 21, 2011Essentially I am trying to replicate the Windows 7 (In-Windows) activation key TextBox form. The Form where it will auto capitalize letters, remove or deny all non alphanumeric characters except dashes every 5 characters that will be auto-input.I assume this can be done with a fairly complicated replacement Regular Expression but I cannot seem to create one to fit the needs.
This is an Example of what I have right now, but it creates an infinite loop as it removes all characters including dashes, than adds a dash, which changes the text and removes the dash again.

Error When Getting A Substring Of X Characters Out Of A Parent String Of Less Than X Characters?
Feb 23, 2011Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days.So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then
If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!

Replacing Characters In Textbox (including Special Characters)
Aug 5, 2011I have two textboxes. I type in one of them and the text gets copied in real time into another textbox. There is one catch. I need to replace specific character with something else.
If I enter a quote " in textbox1, it has to be replaced with " in textbox2.

Shape Of Really Large Characters Such As Numbers And Alphabetic Characters
May 9, 2011With the shape of really large characters such as numbers and alphabetic characters + others, is there a way to get that shape as a REGION please?Imagine a really fat snake forming the letter S or two rectangles placed together to form a large letter L or a T like the shapes in TETRIS.
1) Does anyone know of anything in VB.Net that can translate such shapes into a System. Drawing.Region or know of a project elsewhere that achieves this please?
2) While I'm on the subject, how would you SCALE UP / DOWN a System.Drawing.Region please? How would you work out the Transform Matrix required please?
VB Mixing Characters When Change Position Of Two Characters In Word

Program works good, it is mixing characters good, but it doesn't write text to the file. It will write text in console, but not in file. Note: Program is working only with words that are divisible by 2, but it's not a problem. Also, it does not return any error message.

But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time. Asp.net - Character Support - Translate Higher ASCII Characters To Lower ASCII Characters?
Aug 7, 2009So I have an ASP.Net (vb.net) application. It has a textbox and the user is pasting text from Microsoft Word into it. So things like the long dash (charcode 150) are coming through as input. Other examples would be the smart quotes or accented characters. In my app I'm encoding them in xml and passing that to the database as an xml parameter to a sql stored procedure. It gets inserted in the database just as the user entered it.
The problem is the app that reads this data doesn't like these characters. So I need to translate them into the lower ascii (7bit I think) character set. How do I do that? How do I determine what encoding they are in so I can do something like the following. And would just requesting the ASCII equivalent translate them intelligently or do I have to write some code for that?
Also maybe it might be easier to solve this problem in the web page to begin with. When you copy the selection of characters from Word it puts several formats in the clipboard. The straight text one is the one I want. Is there a way to have the html textbox get that text when the user pastes into it? Do I have to set the encoding of the web page somehow?
