I'm just trying to figure out how to use a Timer inside a Page that is using the NavigationService. Here is what I have:

The NavigationService.CanGoBack statement is causing the error message: "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it."
In my project I've got a MainWindow that opens up a second Window. Inside the second Window there is a Frame and I start a navigationservice inside the Frame. Also in the second Window I've got a KeyDown method that calls Me.Close when the user presses the Escape key. Anyway, when the second Window closes a System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherTimer() inside one of the pages in the navigation service doesn't end. Any ideas on how can I close the second Window and terminate the DispatcherTimer inside the navigationservice?

The checkboxes are created dynamically, so I only know the prefix for finding it. So, I need to find these checkboxes by iterating the controls on the page somehow. It's not working out.

I'm trying to retrieve a custom Attribute set on a page's class from inside the MasterPage. Normally to do this I would need to reflect directly on the specific class, but inside the Master page it's always referred to as the Page type (the parent class). How do I determine the specific type of the Page property?
Here's an example of what I'm trying to do:

but it only ever returns the attributes attached to the actual Page class.
I'd rather not have to derive a new base type from Page if I can avoid it.

View 21 RepliesI am trying to make a timer, inside of a class, tick, by calling it from a backgroundworker. It never ticks (the Tick event is never raised), but the Timer shows as Enabled (with Interval set to 1).

If I move the code inside the Thread1_DoWork procedure into the Button1_Click procedure, the code works fine (by bypassing the backgroundworker). But, when it is called inside of the backgroundworker, it doesn't work at all.
I have a .dll file (Interop.ACTMULTILib.dll) that I use to connect to a PLC. This .dll contains a sub called ReadDeviceBlock2(byval devicename as string, byval size as integer, byref data as short). When I call this method in my main it works fine, if I call it from another method that was called by main it works as well.However, it doesn't work when I call it from my Timer_Elapsed sub? I guess this has to do something with threads but I can't figure it out.

I know i can run webforms and mvc views in seperate files, but i want to run the web server control output and events in/on the mvc view page, however, i keep getting this compiler error:

i don't know what else do do, it just wont recognize the control name when im writing the event signature, right after the "handles" keyword, comes the server control name and then a dot, and then the event name, but as events its just giving me "Me", "MyBase" and "MyClass" options to run events for... doesn't let me access "FileUpload.OnFileUploaded" which is the control name & event name i want to write the sub routine method declaration (and subsequently method) and signature for.
I am using a tabcontrol to put all my database tables as I don't want to have too many forms. I tried to set up the search form function by watching a video by Beth Messi called "Creating a search form" under form over data video series. After I finished setting up everthing accordingly, the tool strip appeared bellow the window form title bar. May I know how can I move it into the tabpage?

View 2 RepliesI have an asp.net usercontrol which represents a "popup" dialog. Basically, it's a wrapper for the jQuery UI dialog which can be subclassed to easily make dialogs. As part of this control, I need to inject a div into the page the control is used on, either at the very top or very bottom of the form so that when the popup is instantiated, it's parent is changed to this div. This allows "nested" popups without the child popup being trapped inside the parent popup.
The trouble is, I can't find a safe way to inject this div into the page. A usercontrol doesn't have a preinit event, so I can't do it there, and calling Page.Form.Controls.Add(...) in Init, Load or PreRender causes the standard exception "The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases."
I thought I had found a solution by using. ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Me.GetType, UniqueID + "_Dialog_Div", containerDiv, False) which seemed to work well normally, but recently a coworker tried putting an UpdatePanel inside the dialog and now she's getting the error "The script tag registered for type 'ASP.controls_order_viewzips_ascx' and key 'ctl00$ContentBody$OViewZips_Dialog_Div' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: . Only properly formatted script tags can be registered."

View 6 RepliesI need an accurate timer to interface a Windows application to a piece of lab equipment.I used System.Timers.Timer() to create a timer that ticks every 10 msec, but this clock runs slow. For example 1000 ticks with an interval of 10 msec should take 10 wall-clock seconds, but it actually takes more like 20 wall-clock sec (on my PC). I am guessing this is because System.Timers.Timer() is an interval timer that is reset every time it elapses. Since it will always take some time between when the timer elapses and when it is reset (to another 10msec) the clock will run slow. This probably fine if the interval is large (seconds or minutes) but unacceptable for very short intervals.Is there a function on Windows that will trigger a procedure every time the system clock crosses a 10 msec (or whatever) boundary?
UPDATE: System.Timers.Timer() is extremely inaccurate for small intervals.I wrote a simple program that counted 10 seconds several ways:
Interval=1, Count=10000, Run time = 160 sec, msec per interval=16
Interval=10, Count=1000, Run time = 16 sec, msec per interval=15
Interval=100, Count=100, Run time = 11 sec, msec per interval=110
Interval=1000, Count=10, Run time = 10 sec, msec per interval=1000
It seems like System.Timers.Timer() cannot tick faster that about 15 msec, regardless of the interval setting.Note that none of these tests seemed to use any measurable CPU time, so the limit is not the CPU, just a .net limitation (bug?)For now I think I can live with an inaccurate timer that triggers a routine every 15 msec or so and the routine gets an accurate system time. Kinda strange, but...I also found a shareware product ZylTimer.NET that claims to be a much more accurate .net timer (resolution of 1-2 msec). This may be what I need. If there is one product there are likely others.

I want to put a static variable in the timers tick event that will track how many seconds have elapsed.
My question is, will this work?
If user X and Y are viewing the page will they both have separate local static variables?

I have a windows application that need to process som quite time consuming jobs. In my first try i did all processing under
the form thread. The result was bad response and update of the form due to the heavy jobs.To get around the problem with bad response from the form i created a new class "processing" where i put all the data processing. Then i instanciated a background worker where i in the "doWork" sub created a new instance of "processing".The "processing" class creates a timer from system.timer, and the timer drives the processing.On the Timer event Elapsed the timer starts a new thread from the thread pool.
My problem is now when i want to asynchronously close the background worker (with the corresponding function call what ever it is called ...) there is still a timer thread out there that causes exceptions for me.
1. How can i close my background worker and at the same time have the timer to be stopped?
2. Is there a way to synchronize the timer event so that the timer executes from the background worker thread?
3. Is there a better approach for me to adapt?

View 3 RepliesI want to create an array of timer in vb.net. My problem is that how will i raise the tick event for a particular timer, say mytimer(x).tick and inside the tick event there is also a button, say mybutton(x) which changes location every interval. for example:

Everything is nice and dandy on my pc, then I compile, move it to its final destination and I doesn't work! At first I thought it was a OS problem, but both machines has win7, I then thought it was a compilation problem, installed visual studio on the other pc, recompiled still with no luck, then it dawned on me, may it be a problem of 32bit vs 64bit?The piece of code is this:[code]....

I have a timer in vb.net and it's interval is 1000ms ,. i have placed in it's timer_tick event a code that will print screen the screen and save it to a database.The problem is when i click outside of the form, or loosing the focus of the mouse to the form containing that timer/printscreen, the timer stops. I have a master page which contains everything that inherits it within a form. A page inheriting from it needs to run some javascript to act on a text field on a page. However, I can't seem to reference that text field through the javascript, since the form begins on the master page. The following line will come up bogus: document.form1.txtFindUser.value = blah.responseText; This is because form1 is defined on the master page, while txtFindUser is on the current page.
