Use Replace When Making One Variable = Two Others Instead Of Just One?

Okay this one might be a little tougher. I'm using VB that looks like this:
string = Replace(string.ToLower, chr(63), "A")
But I also want chr(63) = "B" as well, like this:
string = Replace(string.ToLower, chr(63), "B")
My problem is that when chr(63) is at the end of a string I need it to be B, and when it's not the end I need it to be A. I suppose that I can use an if/then/else statement. Is there a way to do this?

I am having an issue using a datagrid. I can use it fine on my development machine in VB 2005. But, when I deploy it to a client and they try to access the datagrid this message comes up:To run this example, replace the value of the connectionString variable with a connection string that is valid for your system.
Both machines are running Windows XP Pro (SP3). Is there some type of assembly for datagrids that I am missing in my application or some prerequisite that I need to install as part of the solution.

I'm creating a method to replace variables in strings, I'm going to share an example of how I'm replacing values and can see short falls in how what I'm doing. Here's a stripped down example of what I'm doing. It replaces a variable with the date specified, so %today(-1) would give me yesterday, %today(2) would give me two days from now.

Using VB or C#, I am getting a string of variable length from the database. This information is sensitive information that only certain users will be able to see.I have two cases that will use the same logic (I think).scenario 1: replace all characters with xscenario 2: replace all characters with x except the last 4 characters (assume length > 4 - this check is being done).I thought that this would be easiest using Regex.Replace(input, pattern, replacestring). As opposed to a lot of string handling with substrings and forcing a length of 'x's.

I haven't quote grasped this whole "class" concept yet, but I'm working on it. When following the instructions below, the "test" portion of this code: "test.variable". It has an underlined error that says that "test" is not declared. If I remove the "test" word then the ".variable" shows not declared. I'm using Visual Studios 8 if that makes any difference. I have a pre-existing variable in a project that I would like to monitor for changes.

excuse my coding and term limitations. I'm still learning and have only done what I'd consider basic things. I tried to search this solution for hours and but I'm coming up with nothing.
What I want to do is to reference different check boxes using one loop.

I get the error "Public member 'Checked' on type 'Boolean' not found." I get the fact I'm not able to simply make the text of the code into a variable I can easily insert into the code at will. At least not how I'm trying to do it.How can I dynamically change the check box name I'm referencing in the loop so I don't have to duplicate the code over and over for every check box name?

how can i replace the enter key event present in an ASP variable with a white space i tried a lot but bad luck...Actually there is no character like vbCrlf or <br> in the string actually I am getting ...it is an enter key event present in the string taken from a textarea ..... I am thinking is to have a question, then between 2-4 answers, and depending on the answer a point value gets assigned to a variable, but then when that one question is answered you can click a button that moves to a next page type of thing with a new question on it. I think I could probably figure most of this out but when it comes to switching to a different question I am not sure how I would do that.

I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].

This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?

The file reads in parameters and two of the parameters used to be in Date Format YYYYMMDD but will now permanently be in format YYYY-MM-DD. This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. I added the two rows with .replace code in green in expecting that to be enough but it is still not working.

I'm working on a timekeeping application in Visual Basic 2008 and am having trouble formatting a timespan for display. Here's how I want to the information:If a positive number my Label will be: lblTimespan.txt will show as "12 Hours And 15 Minutes" This works fine.If its a negative number I want to display it as "(12 Hours And 15 Minutes)'[ in red. The problem is that I can't get rid of the minus sign. [code] Thr Replace doesn't seem to want to replace the "-", can anyone suggest what to do?

I have a bunch of object variables which are all initialised in their declarations such that:

I would like to use the Visual Studio Find/Replace dialog box to search for "As New" then replace everything from "As New" to the first set of speech marks with some text such that:

I am trying to think of a regex replace to replace double quotes with nothing. Example:

"hi" would become hi

I am trying to filter out all unwanted characters from a string. All I want in the string is letters A-Z, numbers 0-9 as well as comma (,) plus (+) and quotes (").I figured how to do the letters and numbers, but the 3 special characters are giving me a problem. I also tried with the Chr(34) equivelant for the " sign, but no luck, as and " or , messes up the way the code is read. Here�s what I have so far, but it only works for A-Z and 0-9:

I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)

The variables in the brackets [example] do not actually have brackets in them in the original code. These are where the issues are. For both variables, it says, "The type for variable [variable] will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of [variable], or use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.[variable]' or 'MyBase.[variable]')." Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a stupid question or not, as I'm used to VB '98 because that's what we use in my programming class at High School. let me know why this won't work.
-Note: The intention of this program is to continually loop the generation of numbers for this list until I tell it to stop. Button1 ends the program, Button2 generates the list one time only, Button3 is supposed to loop the generation of the list, and Button4 is supposed to end the loop, but not the program.

Say that i have the following code that parse about 20k records from the DB.

And then another code which does the very same thing but it seems to be a little cleaner.

This is what i am confused about; does the compiler creates a new variable automatically when i use the if statement without strictly declared variable? What approach is better in sense of performance?
