Need to show visio diagram on .net FORM, and need to be able to click on the shapes. Thats it. no creation, no stencils, no editing. Basicly just catch the click event from axDrawingControl.I'm having a "very" hard time to dig trough the visio DOM, disabling all of the functions, tool bars, menus..I basically will ever need a view-only diagram. So, to all the interop gurus out there, point me in the right direction please..I have the SDK, its (crap) not very useful in my case. Seems like a lot of resources wasted and lots of hustle for view only.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to figure out some Excel automation. I have a form set up so the user can click on a label to open an Excel file (as a background process I guess) so the file isn't actually visible. Once they click on the "Convert to Count" button it will multiply all the values in Column B by 1,250 and put the output in Column C. Once it has finished this action, it makes the file visible so the user can choose to save it or not. Also, some users have Excel 2003 and some have 2007. Would it be possible to be able to load both xls and xlsx?[URL]..I must say I am very new with .NET and have a little bit of knowledge with VB6. I'm not sure where to even begin. I've looked up some ways to load an excel file but couldn't get it to work the way I need it to. Most of the ways I found were loading the file into a DataGridView. I don't want to use a DataGridView if I don't have to. Some of the files the users might be loading could have 10,000+ rows and that would take too long I think.

View 1 RepliesI have an application developed in VB 6.0 and VBA that uses latest Office 32 bit version. But since this application is 32 bit, it does not run on systems where 64 bit Office versions are installed. What is the best strategy I have to adopt to port this application to 64 bit. We have a mandate to use VB.NET and minimal (as much as possible) code modification from VB/VBA to .NET 64 bit. Please suggest the best option I can use so that I can leverage all best practices for this porting.

View 2 RepliesI have an VB.NET 2010 application using framework 4 that has issues with reading and writing to cells using command similar to 'RequiredSoftwareVersion = EmployeesSheet.Cells(37, 4).value'. The big thing is I can open/close the workbook, select which worksheet in the workbook. On some computers it works fine, on others I get a pop-up that asks if you want details, continune, quit. All the computers have Office 2007 installed.

View 12 RepliesI have a WinForm program developed in VB.Net with Visual Studio 2005. The program needs Microsoft Office Runtime installed atleast on the computer to allow the application to run without any errors.
Is their a way to check the computer to see if the minimum of the Runtime or Microsoft Office is installed on the computer? If either isn't I would like to display a message to the user on the startup of the application that states to atleast go to Microsot's site (I have full link to Runtime Download) and download the runtime for free.
Or is their a way to include the runtime as a component with my install for the application so if it isn't installed on the computer already it will install when the application is installed?
I have an application, running multiple threads, and in many of these threads, Outlook is being called, some mails read, attachments downloaded, and then the outlook instance closed. But it is possible that there are a number of threads trying to do the same thing at the same time. There is of course a lock at the beginning and end of the process, so that no two threads try to access the outlook application at the same time.
"Sometimes" i get an error message : Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80010108

I am using visual studio to create an application that opens an excel file and then for each entry in the first column the entry in the second column is stored in an array. Then excel opens two other workbooks and for each entry in the first column it searches for a match in these other two workbooks and stores the corresponding value in an array.
Anyway, the problem is closing excel afterwards. I have used the thread: [URL] to work through the basics of cleaning up. I used the cleanup code provided and added the WithEvents caveat. I do not have strict option on.
I believe the problem is the fact that I have three workbooks open.
This is my cleanup code: (wrkbk, wrkbk2, wrkbk3 are the workbooks; datasheet, datasheet2, datasheet 3 are the worksheets; excel is the application)
Code:
GC.Collect()
GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers()
GC.Collect()
[Code]....
I got the impression that order was important in the cleanup procedure so I have tried some variations of moving the workbooks and worksheets around.

View 5 RepliesI have written an application which uses the Outlook object library to send an e-mail with information from a textbox. I programmed this on Windows 7 and Office 2010, which was a mistake as most of the clients will be using Windows XP and Office 2007. I am getting an error when running the application on Windows XP/2007:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook, Version=14.0.0.0 .... etc
I understand that this is because I have not loaded the Outlook 12.0 assemblies, however I am having trouble adding the assemblies on my Win7/2010 programming machine. I have downloaded the standalone Office 2007 PIAs however the Outlook 12.0 doesnt appear on the list, and when I try and add just the Office 12.0 I get an error.
is there a way to standardise and make the application work with both 2007 and 2010 outlook machines? I think it is possible, I have read some articles making the application choose the correct version, however cannot figure out how to.
We have currently upgraded our development machines to Windows 7 and Office 2007. We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?
View 5 Repliesi was wondering if someone could give me the final explanation on what i might be doing wrong here.I spent a lot of time reading around the net and the forum about how to add Threading capabilities to a VB project.
Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot).However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type
I've developed shared addin for Microsoft Word. I distribute this addin with my application and using Inno setup for installation. The Inno setup installs my application and then runs "myAddin.msi" file in order to install addin.
how to uninstall this addin programatically?
Right now, in order to uninstall addin, the user has to to it manually through control panel.

View 1 RepliesI've made Add-in for Word 2007 in VS2005.It worked well with Word 2007 and now it works well with Word 2010 32 bit.However it doesn't work with Word 2010 64 bit. The installation is successful, but the ribbon button doesn't show up.
Do you have any experience with add-ins for Office 64 bit?
I have used VB.NET and Microsoft Offices Interop to create an application that will run on a server and will print files for different users.My problem is that I need to find a way to impersonate different users so that when MS Word opens and prints, the resulting print job is recorded under that user. I found this link that lets you run .net code as a different user - unfortunately it doesn't work with this code. The username recorded is still the user that is logged on the server.Code Removed by moderator. Any ideas how I can make the Office app I'm automating run under a different user to the .net program that is calling it?
View 2 RepliesI would like to create Shared add-in that works with Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. I've found nice article that provides step by step instruction for creating shared add-in for Word: [URL] I've followed instructions and it worked.
