C# - Detect If Application Start Using A Manual Handling (Pressing An Icon) Or Start When Windows Start?

Feb 28, 2011

I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

Sql Server - Create Application To Modify SSIS Variables And Start SSIS Package?

Aug 23, 2011

My DBA has several SSIS packages that he would like the functionality of providing the end user with a way to input values for variables in the package. What would be the best solution for creating an application that would take the user input and pass the data through to the SSIS package variables?

I can get this work locally using this code

Dim packageName As String
Dim myPackage As Package
Dim integrationServices As New Application

[code]....

Problem is this requires that the user have SSIS installed locally.

Process.Start To Start An External Command Line Application

Aug 4, 2009

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

Cannot Start Application Error - Application Validation Did Not Succeed

Oct 21, 2006

I am installing an app I built in VB, and am getting the error "Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue." I have successfully built and installed this app previously. What I think caused the issue is I attached the .mdf file I have referenced in my application to my SQL Server. I then detached the database in SQL Server, opened my VB app and re-built the app. When I tried to install the app, I received the error. Attached are the details of the error message.

Using Process.Start Method To Launch Another Application From Application?

Feb 27, 2010

I'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.

DB/Reporting :: Unable To Start UsingSQL Server Express?

Aug 3, 2009

I have been using Access 200 as my database of choice with Visual Basic 2008 Express.I am trying to start usingSQL Server Express but having a difficult time with it. All of the instrctions I have tri9ed seem to be written for someone who already knows the answers. Here's my problem.I wrote a program using Access, with one table and five queries and it works fine. Using that program as a baseI created an SQL Server database within Visual basic. Naturally I changed my code to reflect SQL rather then OLEDB.When I try to run the program I get an error message telling me that the database is not registered. When I use the SQL Server Management Studio Expres, it shows my database by give a big message that the database is not registered.

Enable Application To Run On Server / Network Share So That Only Serial Number Needed Is For Server?

May 29, 2012

I have an application I have developed which works great on individual PC's. However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing. If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer. What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?

[2005] Launch Process.Start On Client PC Instead Of Server Side?

Feb 1, 2009

I am building an internal web page which retrieves binary data from a SQL database, converts the binary to an image file, then opens the file on the clients PC.In debug mode, this works fine, because the program downloads the file successfully into a temporary directory, converts it to the image then uses System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() to launch the image file in the associated image viewing program. However, as soon as I upload it to the server, two undesired things happen:

a. The file gets saved on the servers temporary directory, instead of the client temporary directory (I kind of expected this to happen, so this wasnt much of a suprise)

b. System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() does not launch the file successfully. Nothing actually happens when it gets to this part of code, however I suspect that it is trying to launch the process on the server end, instead of the client end.

how I can get System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() to launch on the client end OR how I could get the image to just appear in the clients web browser instead?

C# - Thread Start In Form1() Crashing Program On Windows Server 2008

May 12, 2011

I'm getting a really strange error. I have a program that needs to run a thread on startup, and for some reason when I do myThread.Start() in Form1() it will crash with "program is not working" (But only on Windows Server, not on my local machine!). However, if I put the same code under button1_Start() it works no problem. What gives?

EDIT A little extra information: In my thread I have a line of code that uses invoke

Invoke(new Action(() => richTextBox1.AppendText(string.Format("Updating {0}..
", DateTime.Now))));

And for some reason the crashing goes away after I make the thread sleep for 2 seconds before it starts executing. Am I using the right method to execute code on the app startup?

Application Cannot Start Error?

Jun 28, 2012

I worked on my project and then compiled it and I am trying to install it and test it on user machines it allows me to install the app but when its time for the app to start up it gives me the "Application cannot start error".There is a line in the details log that says "Unable to install this application because an application with the same identity is already installed. To install this application, either modify the manifest version for this application or uninstall the preexisting application." , The thing is I first uninstall the program before I attempt to install it again on the machine after testing it and fixing some bugs in the software.I've tried restarting the machine , antivirus scanning what more can I do to fix this?
