Using A Wcf Service That Contains A DataContract Inside Excel VBA?

You read the title and groaned. That's okay. I did too. But we do what we're asked, right? I need to build a service that can be accessed via a moniker from within Excel (2003, but I'm assuming any version of Excel should support this functionality). At the moment all I want to do is have a spreadsheet post data to a WCF service running from a Windows service on a remote machine. Because that data needs to be retrieved by something a little more sophisticated than VBA, I decided to set up a data contract. Here's my code (at the moment this is just a proof-of-concept, but it's closely related to how it needs to look when it's finished).

If I include the DataContract attribute and the function that returns the data contract object, my vba code fails in the Public Sub PutData method with the following:
"Instance of MessagePartDescription Name='GetWhatsResult' Namespace='http://tempuri.org/' cannot be used in this context: required 'Type' property was not set."If I take out the DataContract and comment out the function in the service definition, I'm fine. I don't plan on using the GetWhats() function from within Excel. But yet I'm guessing it wants the type definition for TheWhats.From what I've read one solution seems to be making this a COM object and referencing the DLL. However that isn't a workable solution for my environment. Is there another way to fix this?

I've added a service reference to my WCF webservice which generated all of my datacontract objects. I'm using BasicHttpBinding. Using a partial class, I've made one of these objects inherit from another class that adds some properties to it.[code]...

I'm working on a WCF service in VB. I was asked my DTOs are in différentas namespaces. Here's an example with two classes:

But when I come to do a test project to test my service, no namespace does not appear, and put my two classes are the same. The Intellisence going to my first class with the name Reply, and the second class with the name Reply1, while I wanted the same hierarchy with my classes. So I wonder if it is possible to do? I look forward to your responses.

DataContract XML serialization and XML attributes which is most interesting I have attempted to directly convert it to VB.NET, but it does not seem to give me the right results. All I get is the root element with no attributes:

Is it possible to deliver an Excel Spreadsheet via an Web Service. I believe not as ASP.NET web services seem only to deal in Serializable elements which the excel binary format isn't (I think). If the Excel is saved in XML format will this work?
I have a number of reports that will be emailed, but the request has been put into allow these reports to be pulled via Web Services.

If an excel document is opened inside a webbrowser control, and you try opening another excel document using a different instance of the same web-browser control, the previous opened excel (inside the web-browser) would not allow users to edit the excel workbook.

Create a class named Service. Inside the Service class, declare a class variable named Started. The datatype of this variable is Boolean.Public Class Service Dim started as Boolean End Class Create a class named Server. Inside the Server class, declare a dynamic array that can contain elements of the type Service.(Note: For convenience, both the array and the variable Started can be accessible from a client program that creates an instance of Server and Service respectively)
Create a constructor for the Service class. When the constructor is executed, it will set the value of the class variable Started to True. Create two new classes: WebServer and DatabaseEngine. Both of these classes inherit from the class Service. Inside the Service class, declare a Sub procedure (method) named Terminate. This method should display the following text Service stopping in a message box when executed.This method can be overridden in classes that inherit from Service class.
Inside both the WebServer and DatabaseEngine class, override the method Terminate inherited from their base class Service. Both methods should first call the base class Terminate method. The messages Web server stopping and Database engine stopping should also be displayed in a message box when the Terminate method for the WebServer and DatabaseEngine are called respectively. These messages should only be displayed if the Started variable inherited from their base class is not equal to False.
Inside the Server class, declare a method named Shutdown. This method does not return any value. When executed, it will call the Terminate method for each of the Service instances (if any) in the arrServices
array. You should call the Terminate method within a For Each loop that loops through the elements of the arrServices array.
In the Sub Main method, create an instance of the class Server. Set the size of the arrServices array in
your Server instance to contain 2 elements. Create first a WebServer instance and then a DatabaseEngine
instance into this array. Call the Shutdown method from your Server instance.

I'm wondering if you can use the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel in a windows service application type.

I'm currently generating some excel files using vb.net (2008). I want to protect the workbook or sheet inside, so that the user cannot edit anything within the file.I tried some options from MSDN but no luck and some other forums but no luck.The following is my last few lines of code in the program.

I basically don't want the user to edit anything inside the file. Perhaps a printout is allowed.

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

I am making an invoicing application. I have a label (lblCost) inside of a UserControl (InvoiceEntry) inside of a FlowLayoutPanel (pnlEntries). InvoiceEntry represents a line item on the invoice, and pnlEntries is the "body" of the invoice. pnlEntries can hold several InvoiceEntry controls.
I am attempting to sum all of the lblCost values from each InvoiceEntry control to make a subtotal, and I want that subtotal to change automatically if costs are changed (e.g., a change in quantities being ordered). Is there a way to handle when the lblCost.Text property of any of the InvoiceEntry controls contained within pnlEntries changes?

This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.
