Way To Change General / Declarations Dropdowns To Act Like C# Dropdowns?

Essentially, in C# the left dropdown has all the classes in a file while the right drop down has all the methods, events, properties, etc.In VB all of my controls are in the left dropdown and I have to select them if I want to go to a particular event handler for that control.I find it time consuming to navigate to my btnSave_Click method by first selecting btnSave in the left dropdown and then selecting Click in the right dropdown.Is there a setting or a plugin that can change this functionality?

I have MDI parent and child windows that were working fine but now clicking on a dropdown doesn't do anything, also scrollbars cannot be moved. Other controls are still ok, buttons and other links are still working. I should also note that if I change the child to load in a separate window all the controls work again.

I've got a MenuStrip with dropdowns and a Toolstrip with buttons. I don't want the button images in the image margin of the dropdown because they are too small to read properly. I can't seem to find the ShowImageMargin property (in either the MenuStrip or the ToolStripMenuItems) to turn the margin off. I've constructed the menu items in the designer.

I have set it up to email me should someone submit this form and an error occur and right now should that occur for most integer or datetime fields if they fail to validate then it will show me which fields in the email failed and what was input into them.
Problem I'm having now is to validate the drop downs and the textboxs in a similar way to what I with integer and datetime fields so I can display those also in the email in case they error.

Summary:- Need vb code to validate if strings and dropdowns are valid and the use of try/catch block is another possible solution but I wasn't able to figure out how to implement validation for that either.

I have one page with two dropdownlists with different IDs and in my codebehind I have two distinct methods, one for each dropdownlist, with distinct names and handlers.BUT, in my codebehind, only one dropdownlist calls it's method - and sometimes it calls both methods! - while the other dropdownlist never calls its method.I tried cleaning the infamous "Temporary ASP.NET Files" folder I tried rebuilding the solution but the problem persists?

MVC 3 VB.NET razor. I have a view that has 4 dropdown boxes in it.. This is for setting up a staff member.. If that staff member is to work certain classes then that class will be set for each day. If he is not then the value needs to stay null. This is a edit view so it may have to be accessed multiple times and still keep the original selectlist values if none changed. The below is what I have right now that is working only on its face. The Old selected value is shown first. However this isnt being returned on the save. The only way that it will save correctly is if I select the value that was set in each box then click save. The next problem is that not all staff members will have classes to work on every one of the 4 days. So how do I set a value to null and keep it that way unless a class Is actually selected.

Any resolution to make the cascading dropdowns work as expected when used inside edit mode of AspxGridview. I am using DevExpress Controls.
My requirement is as follow:
If I select country="United States" then populate the "State" combobox and on selection of "State" populate the "City" combobox.
If I select "country" other then "United States" then populate only "City" combobox with cities of selected "country" and no need to populate the "State" combobox. Also I need to hide the "State" combobox. i.e. like
Country State City
ROW1 united states Alaska Douglas
ROW2 Canada Toronto
ROW3 Australia Sydeny
ROW4 united states California Yuba City
Same is required in Editmode also.

It is my understanding that all modules are initialized and that all their variables are set up prior to MyApplication_Startup. I have code that has worked well for quite some time (XP and Vista).The Myapplication_Startup code references variables and code located in a Module.However, with Windows 7 this does not work.Anny reference to a module (Data, SUB or FUNCTION) throws a Type Initialization error at runtime. How can I correct this behavior in Windows 7?

Although I have been programming for many years, successfully, in many different languages, translating my large Word VBA application into VB 2008 Express is driving me crazy. While I understand the theory of OOP and have even been on object-oriented courses, it seems I can't declare my objects correctly and use them in my code. As far as I know, I'm not trying to do more than the "language" is capable of doing, but here goes.
I want to start with "aList" which would be a Collections.Generic.Dictionary(Of String, String) object. Then I want a "bList" which is also a a Collections.Generic.Dictionary object. I would like each bList item to have a few individual simple properties (like a Byte and a String) then an aList instance as well. The application then gets a bList key value from the user, "copies" the corresponding bList item values into a work area, and does the necessary processing using the various bList(aList) / aList(bList) item values from the work area. I say "copies" because I assume that part is simply going to be a pointer copy rather than a long copy of lots of strings. Note that I really don't want to start using arrays here, as the application makes alot of use of Word VBA Dictionaries and I'd like to keep it that way if I can. Incidentally, so far, I have all my global data declarations in a separate Class, not on any of the application's forms.

I want the module to execute first before anything else, and so I call module.main() from the MyApplication startup event. At about the point that program execution gets to the beginning of module-level declarations in the module, it also starts running though the class-level declarations in the thread classes, but long before the threads are declared or the threads are started in the module code. I can't figure out why it happens! Is there some way of supressing that until later (i.e when those classes are actually instantiated)?

I have an issue with variables that are used to name For-Next loops. I have had this problem in a couple programs but not consistently, i.e. some variables work, some throw a warning (not an error).
The situation is this. I declare the variable along with all my declarations in a module-
Module MainModule

The type for variable 'Counter1' will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of 'Counter1', or use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.Counter1' or 'MyBase.Counter1'). In the past I've always broken down and changed the names to get rid of all those ugly warnings. Sometimes I have eliminated them from being declared in the module and declared them at call time. This is not how I program and I like to keep consistency throughout.
how I can get rid of this spotty, on-and-off nonsense? There is obviously a lot I don't understand about VS and I would have never taken it up but would have stopped 3 languages ago if I weren't forced into bulkier and bulkier languages (sorry about the rant. I feel OK now).

I've read several articles and questions/answers that conclude the best practice is to let the JIT compiler do all the optimization for inline function calls. Makes sense. What about inline variable declarations? Does the compiler optimize these as well?

Of course I prefer the latter because it's easier to read and debug, but I can't afford the performance degradation if it exists. I have already identified this code as a bottleneck -- No need for retorts about premature optimization.

In my code the application will restart using the Application.Restart statement from another form named frmDatabase.
The application seems to restart while debugging but yet the dataset, tables etc which is declared right below the class declaration for the startup form seems to fail initializing when the restart is done.
Compiling and running the application works like a charm and there is no error like this when running the executeable.
I also Inserted a breakpoint in the Form_Load event and the debugger seems to skip all the statements when the application is restarted all the way down to where the exception occurs.

i successfully deployed one application but some small small issues coming in that...Here i want clarify some common doubts in redistributable components...I created one windows application in VS 2008 with C# as language and SQLServer 2005. I created msi setup application in vs 2008 itself. My application includes 2 third party tools. One is for skin and another is for capture images from different devices like camera, web cam etc...Database i deployed is sqlexpress 2005
Generally i added the following prerequisites:
1. Dot Net Framework 3.5
2. Windows Installer 3.1
3. Crystal Report basic runtime for vs 2008 (x86, x64)
4. SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 (x86)
For all these i have no doubts except 4th one.Other than these prerequisistes my first third party tool(for skin) include Visual C++ 2005 Runtime. For this i tried Visual C++ Runtime included in the VS 2008 prerequisites but not worked. So i downloaded Visual C++ 2005 for x86 and x64 and create the custom prerequisites using "Bootstrapper Manifest Generator" and its working successfully For the second third party ocx component (for live video from devices) they telling the following compenents other than ocx component.
a. MFC Libraries (gdiplus.dll, msvcrt.dll, mfc42.dll)
b. DirectX 9 runtime or better
c. Windows Media format runtime files (they gave wmfdist.exe)
I told the system OS requirement is Windows XP SP2 or Vista. Architecture 32 bit and 64 bit(with conditions)
1. I didnt include the 3 MFC Libraries (gdiplus.dll, msvcrt.dll, mfc42.dll) in my setup application Yes i not included the these dlls. But i didnt get any error up to now. I think XP SP2 included these files. Any problem raises in vista or somthing other machines if i leave these files or these files updated when i installed that Visual C++ 2005 runtime? Because when i search MFC libraries i got the result as visual c++ runtime. Please clear about this and tell the i want to include or not?
2. I didn't include DirectX 9 runtime I dont have any common doubt in this because mostly sp2 inludes directX only. But if i inluded these can you give the latest and best redistribution component download link? I dont know is this component differe 32 bit or 64bit?
3. I didnt include Windows Media format runtime files This also i dint included but not got any issues. But some customer told that grains like coming in the live screen.
