Registry Values Not Being Added To Registry?

Aug 4, 2011

I wrote an application to manage several installers and I wanted to throw in some registry settings as well. Unfortunately the following code is not writing to the registry, nor is it returning any exceptions.I'm running Visual Basic 2010 Express as administrator using Windows 7 64 bit, I can manually add the values, and I can add them from a .reg file manually but not even by calling the .reg file as a new process (it asks for permission, says it succeeded, but nothing changed). The key already exists, all I need to do is add two values.

My.Computer.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMAINFeatureControlFEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION", True)
My.Computer.Registry.SetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMAINFeatureControlFEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION", "uwgm_client.exe", 32768, Microsoft.Win32.RegistryValueKind.DWord)[code].....

Registry Program - Moving Applications From Windows 2000 To New Server Windows 2003 ?

Feb 7, 2010

I am working on moving applications from Windows 2000 to new server Windows 2003 R2(64 Bit). I noticed that there are some VB programs and config files for those programs have been placed in Windows 2000 Registry. Some other applications are using them from different servers. Why do we use registry here? How can i move these to registry in windows 2003? Can I just move these or do I have to write VB programs to place them in 2003 registry?

File I/O And Registry :: Clipboard Gettext Not Working

Sep 12, 2009

I've got a program which sets focus to a web browser, selects all and copies to clipboard. all of this works.my problem is pasting from the clipboard. I want the text pasted into a new file which I can create and open programatically but when I place clipboard.gettext in the parenthesis as the string to send to the file, nothing happens. there's no error and nothing gets pasted to the target file.i've confirmed the copy on the windows clipboard viewer just can't get it to write it to the file. (also tried just setting a textbox's text property to clipboard.gettext for testing purposes but it still does nothing)

File I/O And Registry :: Recursion In Datagridview Not Working

Aug 13, 2009

In my application I am selecting a folder path and then asking the user if he/she wants to display full path or file names only.

My problem arises when I want to insert the results in a datagridview. The datagridview has 2 columns:

column1 ----> shows file name

column2 ----> shows file size in MB.

with the below code I get the file name and then the file size on the same column one after the other

I want to show as follows:

File Name Size (MB)
sample.txt 1.2
myspreadsheet.xls 0.6
Seanie.bmp 0.8

What do I need to modify in order to achieve this?

Get Values From Registry Files?

Nov 18, 2009

Is there any way I can open a registry file that is not from the local machine? I have the software and system files from another PC and need to create a small code to read and get values from the files. The other PC is down and I just have the registry files so I ruled out the OpenRemoteSubKey method. However, the My.Computer.Registry.GetValue only works on the local machine.

Windows Media Player Not Working On Windows XP Using Visual Studio Application?

Aug 8, 2011

I have embedded the WMP control in my Visual Studio 2010 app which works on windows 7 (Framework 4.0), but installing the app on winXP, I get the following error:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.WMPLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
File name: 'Interop.WMPLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.

Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog].

I guess this is a reference issue, but I have added references to WMP libraries (axinterop.wmplib.dll and interop.wmplib.dll). The WMP works on the XP machine, but not when called from my application.I have searched the web now for 5 days and changed references, and reinstalled the media player on the XP machine, but nothing works.

VS 2008 Checking For Registry Values?

Jan 14, 2010

I have tried to solve this myself and I know I am probably doing something really silly here what I have is two different registry values that control what is displayed in the combobox on my form RegistryKey1 has the following values:0,1 or it does not existRegistryKey2 has the following values2,3, or 4 the combobox has the following values 0,1,2,3 However here is the problem if the RegistryKey2 is 2 then it further has to be checked if RegistryKey1 is either 0,1 or does not exist

if it is 1 then the selectedindex = 0
if it is 0 or does not exist then the selectedindex = 1
if RegistryKey2 is 3 then the selectedindex = 2

Setting Registry Values With Binary Value Kind?

Sep 14, 2010

I am a newbie so please forgive me if my terminology is incorrect.I am trying to Update a Registry sub key value. I have done this a few times before with success. But this time is kinda different. I noticed a few things, like the sub key value is in HEX when I export the key (The value that I want to input is from a sub key that I exported) I can only get the registry to accept the command if I do not specify the registry value kind, but that doesn't do me any good if its not the correct value kind.

Backup Registry - Keys / Values Displayed In ListView?

Nov 22, 2009

I have a program which will search the entire registry for a keyword and display all the matching keys/values in a listview. The user can then select the desired keys/values and delete them. Since this a program that deals with registry, I want to give the users a way to backup the registry before they do the delete operation. I would like to know what is the best approach for this.

3 questions here:
1- Should I backup the entire registry ?
2- Should I backup only the keys/values that the user has selected in the listview ?
3 - Can I have the sample code or appropriate URL's which describes this.

Add Administrators To Windows 7 Registry Key?

May 14, 2012

I am writing a very specific program that checks and changes some registry keys in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop key. I've had no issues with this in vista or xp. but windows 7 gives me permission errors. the problem is that Administrators group is missing from the permissions table in the registry for this key. I can fix this by opening regedit and right clicking permissions for this key and adding Administrators to the table. However I don't want the end user to have to do this.so how can I add administrators group to the permissions table of this key using vb.net code?Everywhere I look online people say don't write to this part of the registry if I don't have to. well I have to as it is a windows key that I must change. all permissions are set correctly for the program I just need to know how to add administrators to the permissions list in the registry in windows 7 using vb.net?
