Jul 9, 2010I have a basic three form application. It doesn't seem to close after navigating through forms. If I were to open the application, and the main form is displayed. If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

PrintDialog On Windows 7
Mar 28, 2011I just completed moving my development platform from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine. I have a very simple MyPrintDialog.ShowDialog statement that works on my XP machine, but on my Win 7 machine does nothing. The line is executed and no dialog appears and control simply passes to the next statement (no exception). I am running Win 7 professional and VS2008 targeting 2.0.

When I use ShowDialog the loop doesn't execute until DialogResult is returned. When I use Show, the forms buttons are not accessible until do loop is finished. How can I make this work?

Oct 7, 2009I have a user control that contains a search value text box a button, and a datagridview to display what the data adapter found. In the data set designer, I have an ODBC connection to a table, with two SQL queries defined FillByCustomerName(NAME), and FillByCustomerNumber(CUSTOMER_NUMBER). If I preview the data in the designer, I see the data expected. The datagridview doesn't show any data. The functions PopulateGridByName and PopulateGridByNumber do the work. I've tried adding a dgCustomer.show statement, The form that calls the user control has no codebehind code, and throws no errors.

Windows.Forms.Cursor.Show() Doesn't Work?
Sep 8, 2010I have a test app driven by bluetooth serial events In my form load code I hide the cursor so it doesn't get in the way of pictures (fullscreen) When one event is called by bluetooth, it brings up a msgbox and the user has to click OK. I tried Windows.Forms.Cursor.Show() but it doesn't work.
I'm guessing it's something to do with delegates and events and the form, but the debugger doesn't complain at any point. It just refuses to show the cursor. How can I get my serialport event to show the cursor? And then hide it after?

Forms :: Showdialog Within Another Thread
Jul 16, 2010where I am starting another thread which opens a form. Succinctly, it is an animated "Please wait.. processing" type of form. The issue is that I want to make this form a child form of the parent (main thread or main GUI) when I open it.The issue is that I prefer to use frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) instead of just frmProcessing.Show, because of form disappearing issues. It, of course, gives me an error of illegal cross thread operation. My question is, how do I perform frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) to show from within another thread, that the newly opened form is actually a child of the main thread. Is there a better way for me to make a small processing form telling the user to be patient while background processes are working? [code]

Aug 2, 2011I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?

Mar 12, 2012I am using .NET (VB) Graphics to print/preview reports in a pre-defined format (like tax forms), which works just fine. I would also like to be able to have the ability to accumulate one or more different reports and save them to a file for later conversion to PDF or to use the XPS print driver to print them.
When I check the "print to file" box (for a regular laser printer or the XPS print driver), and click "Print", I do not get an Open File dialog as this article suggests I should [URL]. The operation seems to proceed normally, but I have no idea where to find the file, if in fact one is created.
