When Use ShowDialog Loop Doesn't Execute Until DialogResult Is Returned
Sep 8, 2009
I have the following code [code] This loop takes sometimes up to a minute to execute. I would like to display a message box giving the user the option of terminating the loop. When I use ShowDialog the loop doesn't execute until DialogResult is returned. When I use Show, the forms buttons are not accessible until do loop is finished. How can I make this work?

I have a problem with a For Each Loop that doesn't make any sense. The For Each Loop returns values from a list which are Memory Ranges for a given device. When I check the count in the list it returns 3. The For Each only returns 1.
Here's my code:
Private Sub DisplayDeviceResources(ByRef lvwResources As ListView, ByRef intClassIndex As Integer, ByRef intDeviceIndex As Integer)
Dim curDeviceClasses As New DeviceClasses
Dim lvwItem As ListViewItem
EnumerateResources()

It seems like a lot of people are having trouble with this piece of the control toolkit.I've looked for a few days on the internet for an answer and haven't been able to find one. Best solution I've seen so far is "write your own reordering procedure" which I don't want to do.
<asp:ScriptManager ID="smgrJobBidding" runat="server">
</asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="uPanelReorderList" runat="server"

I'm trying to execute a program on a remote machine using this code
Dim objProcess As New System.Diagnostics.Process
objProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd.exe"
objProcess.StartInfo.Arguments = " /c PSExec /accepteula \NTAPPMTMIGL01 -u $AdminUsrLocal -p tjdsi44 c:winntMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727gacutil.exe"
[code]....
If I use it, it works since I'm an admin but if someone else use it, I got "The system cannot find the file specified."Is there any other program I can use that can impersonate, I've already tried xcmd.exe but it doesm't work either.

EDIT: Solved (see comments) I have a For loop inside a sub, and right below it I have a MessageBox function. Everything compiles correctly, however for some reason, if the loop executes and exits successfully, anything outside and below the For doesn't get executed.
[Code]...
it displays only 10 items in the ListBox afterwards. I've searched everywhere, but I did not find anything related to such an issue. I'm kinda puzzled, anyone got a clue of what's going on? EDIT: Forgot to specify, the sub is actually a TextBox.TextChanged event

I am calling a sub from a form load event. The procedure that is being called adds columns to a listview and then loops through an array to populate the listview. I have another procedure called after the loop that does not execute when the loop completes. Please advise as to what I am doing wrong for the code not to execute after the loop in the if/then/else statement or why it is not executing if I remove the if/then/else statement and just placed the called sub after the loop or why the code does not go back to the form load event and then call the next called sub.[code]

I am encountering an error when looping through datarows. I searched SO and tried the solutions, but no luck. Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute.
Dim dRow As DataRow
For Each dRow In dt.Rows
dt.Rows.Add(dRow("CustNum"), dRow("SalesRepName"), dRow("mgrid"), "=""" & dRow("midValue") & """", dRow("dba"), dRow("sysDate"), dRow("statusID"))
Next
The error occurs the first time the code hits "Next". What would be causing Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute.How can I resolve this error?

I have a For..Each loop which loops trough all grid's rectangles and changes the fill of them randomly. I change the fill with a color animation. Here's my code:
Dim rand as new random
Dim changeColor As New Animation.ColorAnimation
changeColor.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(0.5)
[code]....
The problem is that the loop doesn't sleep. I want to trigger the animation, then wait until the rectangle fill is changed and then continue with the rest, but it seems that all of the rectangles fill are changed in the same time.

I'm making a rock paper scissors program and once I set the current_scene variable to 1, the MainLoop() sub doesn't keep looping, but the sub doesn't exit either. (Form1.vb is the most important file.)

For some reason, it seems that the outer block doesn't seem to update recursively, as I expected it to. I want the loops to add all directories within "C:UsersDrise"to the array internaldirs(). Any advice on the correct way to do this, as it seems I'm doing it improperly?
Static internaldirs() As String
internaldirs.add("C:UsersDrise")
For Each internaldir As String In internaldirs

I have a VB.NET form (CopyScenarioForm) with a OK button (DialogResult property = OK) and also assigned it as 'Accept Button" for the Form.
I show this form from my main Form (mainForm) using
If DialogResult.OK = CopyScenarioForm.ShowDialog() Then
DoSomething()
End if
Now when user clicks on the CopyScenarioForm.OK button, I want to validate his entries and if invalid I want to 'Exit Sub' from the OK button's click handler but when I do that the form still closes out and DoSomething() gets executed. Is there a way to stop this and keep the form alive and only exit if the inputs are valid. I noticed, if I change the OK button's DialogResult property to 'NONE' instead of 'OK' then it doesn't cause it to close. but then how Do I know how the user exited the form to execute DoSomething().

I am rather irritated at this. I have no clue why looping through controls on a form and in groupboxes leaves out 75% of the controls.
Here's the code I have:
Dim settings As String = ""
Dim gbControl As Control
Dim gbbox As Control
[Code]....
I want to have setting save all settings to an ini file, and not have to reprogram the saving routine when I add a group box or control. At random times, any number of controls can be disabled, checkboxes can be checked and unchecked, radiobuttons can be checked and unchecked. Regardless of the state of the control, I want the control to show up in the loop. But they don't. Only controls that are enabled and only checkboxes that are checked, every other control state is ignored. That's crap, and is definitely not what is needed by any programmer of any type. We're capable of determining if a control is enabled, hidden, checked, visible, and otherwise.
How do I get the controls to be included in the loop regardless of their state?

Makes the following statement about the code below:
**"The computer evaluates the loop condition in the Do...Loop statment to determine whether the loop instructions should be processed. In this case, the inputsales <> String.Empty condition compares the contenst of the input sales variable to the String.Empty value. As you know the String.Empty value represents a zero length, or empty, string if the inputsales variable is empty, the loop condition evaluates to True and the computer process the loop instructions. *If on the other hand the inputsales variable is not empty, the loop condition evaluates to false and the computer skips over the loop instructions.
Based on the code I think it is the opposite: ...that while the inputsales value is not empty it should evaluate to true and process the loop and if it is empty it should evaluate to false and skip the loop?
See below.

I'm having issues with program that uses radio buttons to select between 2 different forms, that are displayed using showDialog. When I click a button to perform calculations in either form, it will act normally and display the information, however when I click the Clear button to begin a new calculation, the form will close, does anyone know why?

I have a form that I am using to search for records in a dataset, it has a text box for entry of the search criteria and a 'Search' button to initiate the editing of the entry and .Filter on the BindingSource. This is one form in a project with many, when I show it using .ShowDialog it always disappears, (not visible and not loaded) after the 'Search' button is clicked, I have stepped through and there is no .Hide or .Close that it encounters, it performs all of the logic correctly but control is returned to the main form it was shown from. When I use the .Show method, I do not have this problem.

where I am starting another thread which opens a form. Succinctly, it is an animated "Please wait.. processing" type of form. The issue is that I want to make this form a child form of the parent (main thread or main GUI) when I open it.The issue is that I prefer to use frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) instead of just frmProcessing.Show, because of form disappearing issues. It, of course, gives me an error of illegal cross thread operation. My question is, how do I perform frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) to show from within another thread, that the newly opened form is actually a child of the main thread. Is there a better way for me to make a small processing form telling the user to be patient while background processes are working? [code]

When I run this code, it does not seem to open the OpenFileDiaplog diaplg box, or if it does, it closes it immediately, and I get at index out of bounds exception at the " infileStream = getFile.OpenFile()"This exact same code works without problem in another application I am building. So maybe its something about the IDE environment?I think, but am not certain, that this code worked in 2003 .net. I then used the VS wizard to automatically convert to the 2005 environment that I am now coding in.
Dim infileStream As Stream
Dim getFile As New OpenFileDialog
getFile.Filter = "All files (*.*)|*.*"

I converted this app from VB6. I have 2 forms. Form1 instantiates Form2 via a Menu Item.I am having trouble getting Form2 to end when clicking close (X). If Form2 is 'idle' it closes fine; but if I am in a loop processing anything all the events fire, but it continues processing in Form2. I've tried messing with Dispose, Close, Application.Exit, Application.ExitThread. My last attempt was creating my own event to fire back to Form1 and dispose Form2 -- and it hits it but Form2 is still running. What is the deal? BTW if I use just Show vs ShowDialog -- Form2 just blinks and disappears.[code]

I have a form that uses another class to do some work, and the class throws events regarding text updates, and the main form handles them and passes them on the the StatusForm, which displays the process progress via usercontrol. Using a BackgroundWorker and Events I'm able to update the usercontrol on the Status form if I use frmStatus.Show(). Unfortunately, the Status form should use ShowDialog() so it can't lose focus while the application is processing data. Now, for some reason the UserControl will not update if I use ShowDialog(). Any ideas?
