View 29 Replieswe have a VB6 program and we now make them w7/office2010 ready.
In one part of the program we open the SelectNamesDialog (Adressbook) from Outlook (is separatly from the user startet) to choise one recipent from the list.
Under WinXp the Adressbook automaticly appears in the foreground. In w7 nothing happens. I try AppActivate and by the first call
I'm attempting to create an app which uses a vendor-supplied Web Service. They provided sample code to show how to work with the Web Service, but all the code is in C#.. not a huge deal.I opened one of their demo projects and it compiles fine, works perfectly.
So, I open up MY project, drop in the converted code and... wait for it... ERROR!Here is the working C# code that IS working:
C#
private void DoSomethingWithTheAlarm(G4T.enAlarmAction action) { XML_AlarmClearRequest[] ClearRequest = new XML_AlarmClearRequest[lstAlarms.SelectedItems.Count]; int idx = 0; foreach (ListViewItem lvItem in lstAlarms.SelectedItems) { ClearRequest[idx] = new XML_AlarmClearRequest();

I have a simple form that has some buttons on it that work fine when the code is for single click. I want to make it so you have to double click to fire the sub. I tried just adding Double to the code but the sub wont fire then.
This works:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
But this doesnt??
Private Sub Button1_DoubleClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.DoubleClick
Why? do I need to add something else?
I looked in the properties of the button but didnt see anything.
The problem is that if you click on the button the sub fires, but then if you hit return it fires again. If I could take the focus off the button that would be fine to.
And here I am with a new problem in my program When I debug it everything works fine (the buttons, progressbars, pinger, spambot,When I compile it and run the Executable file, it works too.When I run the Executable file on another computer (tried on 4 different ones) the program stops working and
I get this error: {$ exception. "Failed to create the form For more information, see Exception.InnerException error: File or assembly \." I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium, using Visual Express 2010, working on a visual basic program.
View 2 RepliesI'm stuck on a simple problem maybe you can help!
Why does this work
vb Private Function calcArea() As Decimal
Dim height As Decimal
Dim width As Decimal
' assigns user input from the two text boxes to the two variables
Decimal.TryParse(heightTextBox.Text, height)
Decimal.TryParse(widthTextBox.Text, width)
[Code]...
All I did is change the multiply symbol to a divide symbol and now when I try to divide the two Decimal variables Visual Studio says, "Option strict on disallows conversions from 'Decimal' to 'Long'." Not sure where this conversion is happening.I know I'm missing something simple (once again) so if anyone has any advice please let me know.
I am developing an application using Visual Basic .NET 2005. The application works fine in the PC which Im using to develop it. I make the setup.exe I install the application in other PC and the application doesnt work but it I replace the app.exe with the one in my debug folder it will work.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to understand how a for each loop works and am having some trouble. I am trying to create a program that will query a sql database, pull back the information and store it. I currently having it writing to a text file, and would like to take the information (such as name) and compare it to another list where the name is equal. However I am not exactly sure how the for each statement really works. I have looked at numerous sources and it doesn't make since to me as you can probably see from what I have put in here.

i need assistance in for each loop in vb.net 2005. that what is this for, why we use it, what is its syntax and where we need to use etc etc etc....
View 3 RepliesAt the moment my problem is when the function is called If I run it without line 3' MsgBox("bfdbfbniu") the x & y aren't being returned, however when I put a msgbox they are? I don't understand why it would work with a textbox, in comparison to without one. I honestly think the msgbox() should have no effect;
'If CPU is second
If count4win = 1 Then
MsgBox("bfdbfbniu")

My For... Next Loop will not work and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I have tried to display the results in a label and a text box with multiline enabled. Doesn't seem to matter. It's probably something obvious I have been overlooking for 2 hours.

I have written a pontoon game for a college project but i have a problem in which my loop only works when there is a breakpoint in it.The counter is incrementing as i have used a msgbox to display it. The procedure runs the loop and returns the same value in all locations in the array. With a breakpoint it displays correctly in the array.
here is the
Dim aryCardValue(0 To 10) As Short
Dim aryCount(0 To 10) As Short
Dim i As Short

I have used the cards procedure in other programs and it worked fine.
Ive had success using the GET method to retrieve a series of web pages but my new challenge requires me to use a POST > GET combo. I can get it to work once just fine but no more. I get the feeling that something isnt closing or completing properly. When I try to do the second GetRequestStream() I can see from my sniffer app that nothing is being sent so when the next command to stream the POST data to the request session it fails. I removed it all from the loop and simplified it as much as possible. Can someone tell me why it fails?
Also as a general question is my tack or reusing WebRequests viable? Or is there a best practice for looping a POST > GET combo? Ive been assuming that since nothing in the WebRequest changes besides the post data Im sending, even its length remains the same, that I should be able to re-use it.

Dim encoding As New UTF8Encoding
Dim byteData As Byte()

Note: The section after the Experimental comment is a surrogate for the second iteration of the loop. The GET that normally follows the POST section has been removed.
I have a UserControl that has a ProgressBar on it. The purpose of the UserControl is to be able to show the progress % on the ProgressBar as text. To do this it uses the MyBase.Paint event. To make it work the ProgressBar is made invisible and the UserControl is 'painted' with an image of the ProgressBar and then the text is painted on top. The UserControl has a Value property that is passed through to the ProgressBar.Value property.
I use this UserControl in two places, on a Splash form (not a standard Splash Screen) and also on the main form of the application. It works on the Splash form but not on the main form - by work I mean that changes to the ProgressBar.Value property cause the ProgressBar to show its progress. The cause appears to be that in the Splash form case the MyBase.Paint event is called as a consequence of calling Me.Refresh in the Set procedure of the UserControl.Value property, in the main form case it isn't,
i.e. Me.Refresh isn't causing MyBase.Paint to run.
The main form has two BackgroundWorker components. The first gets called (RunWorkerAsync) from Form_Load after the Splash form has been shown. The BackgroundWorker.ProgressChanged event updates the Value property of the UserControl and it works exactly as intended. The second gets called as a result of a user starting an operation and again the BackgroundWorker.ProgressChanged event updates the Value property of the UserControl but MyBase.Paint doesn't run so the ProgressBar remains resolutely static.
Any ideas why it won't respond to Me.Refresh in one case but does in the other? Happy to make any of the code avaialble but didn't want to fllod the first post with reams of it. Here's what I think are the most relevant code sections. First the UserControl

I have one tool which we developed on visual studio 2010. there are basically two parts of my project, one is UI part which i wrote in VB and algorithm part which is in C++ on back end. When we compile C++ part it creates a .dll which is used by my front end VB program.
Now my problem is little weird since i am compiling and deploying this tool on windows xp machine but some of the users are using windows 7 64 bit machines and after running the program for about 5-10 minutes, it crashes on windows 7 with following error
Not enough storage is available to process this command and when i view details of that error, i get the following description.

My app is a fairly simple and im sure with the right knowledge this would take 2 minutes.. but sadly iv been at it for hours. So my scenario here is a huge network with 20+ file servers all with data spread out across them it can take hours to find the folder required.
Hence this app.. so it consist of a input box, progress bar and a button, using FileSystemObject I plan to interrogate a directory to see if a folder exists (folder specified by user input) however it need to check multiple directories, in my old app I used a list box which wrote to a text file allowing the user to add additional directories then using if statements proceeded through the servers.. however they have added that much that my IF's have ran out really because i know it should have been a loop

I have a For..Each loop which loops trough all grid's rectangles and changes the fill of them randomly. I change the fill with a color animation. Here's my code:
Dim rand as new random
Dim changeColor As New Animation.ColorAnimation
changeColor.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(0.5)
[code]....
The problem is that the loop doesn't sleep. I want to trigger the animation, then wait until the rectangle fill is changed and then continue with the rest, but it seems that all of the rectangles fill are changed in the same time.

View 9 RepliesFor some reason, it seems that the outer block doesn't seem to update recursively, as I expected it to. I want the loops to add all directories within "C:UsersDrise"to the array internaldirs(). Any advice on the correct way to do this, as it seems I'm doing it improperly?
Static internaldirs() As String
internaldirs.add("C:UsersDrise")

I have the following code [code] This loop takes sometimes up to a minute to execute. I would like to display a message box giving the user the option of terminating the loop. When I use ShowDialog the loop doesn't execute until DialogResult is returned. When I use Show, the forms buttons are not accessible until do loop is finished. How can I make this work?

That code works to read the entry data and to recognise the correct data, and the incorrect. However, even if entry is correct, the error msgbox will appear (x times of how many records there are in file), despite being navigated to the menu. Anyway that the Else isn't triggered when data is correct. Also for it to appear just one instead of (x times of how many records there are in file.)
I am rather irritated at this. I have no clue why looping through controls on a form and in groupboxes leaves out 75% of the controls.
Here's the code I have:
Dim settings As String = ""
Dim gbControl As Control
Dim gbbox As Control
[Code]....
I want to have setting save all settings to an ini file, and not have to reprogram the saving routine when I add a group box or control. At random times, any number of controls can be disabled, checkboxes can be checked and unchecked, radiobuttons can be checked and unchecked. Regardless of the state of the control, I want the control to show up in the loop. But they don't. Only controls that are enabled and only checkboxes that are checked, every other control state is ignored. That's crap, and is definitely not what is needed by any programmer of any type. We're capable of determining if a control is enabled, hidden, checked, visible, and otherwise.
How do I get the controls to be included in the loop regardless of their state?

Makes the following statement about the code below:
**"The computer evaluates the loop condition in the Do...Loop statment to determine whether the loop instructions should be processed. In this case, the inputsales <> String.Empty condition compares the contenst of the input sales variable to the String.Empty value. As you know the String.Empty value represents a zero length, or empty, string if the inputsales variable is empty, the loop condition evaluates to True and the computer process the loop instructions. *If on the other hand the inputsales variable is not empty, the loop condition evaluates to false and the computer skips over the loop instructions.
Based on the code I think it is the opposite: ...that while the inputsales value is not empty it should evaluate to true and process the loop and if it is empty it should evaluate to false and skip the loop?

The same problem has happened not only to my own Network but on two other Networks, one using XP as its Server and the other using Server 2003. All 3 of these are using different ISPs.
