I have a Visual Basic .Net form (launches after the splash screen tests database connectivity) and it is not focusing above other existing windows on launch. How do I get it to focus above all existing windows and Windows Explorer windows?

For example, when making VB2008 programs, if I use the visual studio express database (.sdf), or maybe a MSAccess database, to store information within my visual basic program...when I deploy the application to the users, can they run the program okay even if they don't have MSAccess installed on their computer?Also, do I need to have MSAccess installed in order to write programs that use MSAccess databases?

This is the first time I am tring to use events.. I am not sure what's going wrong.. the textfill event is never called from form1.
I've written a short application that consists of a form, listviewbox and a timer, the program sits in the taskbar with the form invisible, the timer is set for 40 seconds and basically it queries a database held on an SQL 2000 server, when a certain change happens within the database my form pops up and shows some data in the listview, this happens well, the problem I have is when the check is going on (every 40 seconds) the user loses focus on what ever they're working on. Is there a way I can stop this?
View 2 RepliesI have created an app which has a timer control which, when activated and meets a certain criteria, launches a second form with an alert for the user to review and action. this works just fine. Except.... when the main app is minimised and has lost focus, instead of launching the second form to a normal windows state it opens and sits in a minimized state itself and just flashes. How can I get the the second form to restore to a normal windows state?I have tried form2.focus and tried the windowsstate=normal etc but I'm still barking up the wrong tree.
View 2 RepliesVB Windows form Application.. I am developing an application of which part of the program is around configuration settings allowing the user to enter configuration items. When the menubar item for configuration menu is clicked on the main form the menu opens.This is fine but the mainform should not become active again until the configuration menu has closed. This does not happen right now and the mainform simply comes to the foreground and the configuration form goes to the background... I realize that coding an event on the Child form to handle this would not work because the child window loses control and the main form gains control.. I thought of coding a function as follows on the main form but it does not seem logical because i would have to add to it for everyform and do checking to make sure the child is actually open before trying to close it..

I am creating a windows application which required Dynamic Connection String in the app starting (user need to provide db credentials through a form), After entering the connection credentials user redirected to new win form Everything is working fine but how can I pass my dynamic connection to another form.I tried to save it to App variable but I couldn't (I think its read only) Also I tried save it to registry but can't retrieve values.Is there any other option available ? like writing & retrieving ConString to a text file or XML.
View 1 RepliesI've got a Child form being shown with it's TopLevel property set to False and I am unable to click a MaskedTextBox control that it contains (in order to bring focus to it). I can bring focus to it by using TAB on the keyboard though.
The child form contains other regular TextBox controls and these I can click to focus with no problems, although they also exhibit some odd behavior: for example if I've got a value in the Textbox and I try to drag-click from the end of the string to the beginning, nothing happens. In fact I can't use my mouse to move the cursor inside the TextBox's text at all (although they keyboard arrow keys work).I'm not too worried about the odd TextBox behavior, but why can't I activate my MaskedTextBox by clicking on it?

I'm interested in building my own basic Application controller and ditching the Application Framework entirely.Never done this before (or even considered it) but now I'd like to be able to cut out anything that stands in the way of making my App compatible with both DotNET and Mono, for which Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices is pretty famous.I start, or links to sample Main Modules for WinForms online? Seems like most of what I find is for Console apps.

I have a production application that I always want to force focus on. Sometimes the users will accidentally click off the form and the blue focused window will turn gray. I have a timer that fires every 30 seconds and I want to programatically give focus back to the form so that it goes from gray back to blue with focus. I've tried using the .focus event and the .activecontrol property but none of those seem to work and I'm not seeing any other viable options. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 in VB.Net.

I've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?
I have been trying to figure out how an application like GameSpy or GameRanger launches applications and is able to sync with other users(all joining together). I have been under the assumption that it was just simple command line switches being used. The more I look into it the more I don't think that is the case. I believe they are hooking into a game's API to do so. My question would be, using OllyDbg I was able to get the memory address of a Text display in the game(The game you are about to create's name).The default is "TEST SESH", and if you highlight the field and hit enter you can edit it. I was wondering if anyone could give me incite on how I could set this text through a DLL injection?

I want the focus (and insertion point) to go to the end of the text in the textbox when the tab is selected. If I make a junky project with the following code in each tab, it works fine:

If you are setting the child form mdiParent property after you are calling Form.Show then it messes up the focus of all the child forms so for me, drag/drop of MDI children inside an MDI parent won't focus the form upon Drag start, but only after MouseUp

There is a panel which contains 2 components: a label and a TreeView. The hierarchy, obviously, looks like this:panel1 // handles Enter event
- label1
- treeView1
I need to do some UI updates when user starts interacting with any of these 3 controls. My attempted strategy was to catch the Enter event of the panel, which would fire when user clicks a label, or TreeView. This way, I can write only one (1) event handler instead of several. While it worked for the TreeView, it didn't work for the label. When I click the label, I don't get the Enter event on the panel. Whats different about the label control? I could handle the Click event of the label. At the same time, I wonder what the other solutions might be.
