Wpf - Data Binding A Collection Dependency Property To A Menu In User Control
Jul 27, 2011
I have a user control with its own context menu, however I need to add additional items to that menu.
The approach I took was to have a dependency property called ContextMenuItems:
Public Shared ReadOnly ContextMenuItemsProperty As DependencyProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("ContextMenuItems", GetType(ObservableCollection(Of MenuItem)), GetType(SmartDataControl), New FrameworkPropertyMetadata(New

I am creating a User Control where I have a property called Items. Items is of type LibraryPanelBarItem Collection (custom class) which contains a collection of LibraryPanelBarItem objects. I would like to be able to add these at design time by using the Collection editor that VS uses for adding things such as treenodes/listviewitems. Ideally I would also be able to declaratively add them to the html syntax. I can get the Items property to show up but I get no intellisense to add the items between the opening and closing tags. I want to use property bindings under application settings to store settings for my program. However I have run into a problem. For some reason the checked property is not binding to drop down menu item's checked state. The binding works for text boxes and other controls. I have tried to bind both using the checked property, and checked state property. Auto check on click for the menu items are set to true.
Anyone have any recommendations in getting the app-settings property binding to work without the need to manually set that info and manually run My.Settings.Save?

I have a user control inside of a repeater that is being bound by a sqldatasource. I get the following error: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. EDIT: NEVERMIND Egg on my face. I was getting this databind error because I was binding it somewhere else in an effort to troubleshoot my real problem from last friday but I forgot about it.
WHAT MY REAL PROBLEM IS: The usercontrol is getting bound before the properties get set so it appears as if they are never set. When stepping through I see that they get on the property is hit before the set on the property is hit. For example if I put <%# EVal("Address_ID") %> before the user control I will see the ID displayed but then the user control will display an emptydatatemplate because it is being passed the ID of 0.
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlFacilityAddresses" runat="server" DataSourceMode="DataSet" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" SelectCommand="SP_Facility_GetAddresses" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:Trustaff_ESig2 %>">

My problem is similar to the one described in this article, but I'm trying to use a different grid (DevExpress.xtraGrid) and therefore the answer (if it even works) does not apply for me: [URL]
Briefly, I'm binding the grid to the collection of custom objects - cMessage - to grid's datasource, but I don't want all the propertieties of the cMessage to be shown in the grid. Is there any way to hide some properties from the binding, while leaving them acessible from outside (ie.leave them as public or friend)?

What is the best way to bind a property to a control so that when the property value is changed, the control's bound property changes with it.So if I have a property "FirstName" which I want to bind to a textbox "txtFirstName" text value. If I change FirstName to "Stack" the txtFirstName.Text also changes to "Stack".

Now I try set that property in XAML
<controls:TargetCatalogControl MyCustomProperty="Boo" />
But the setter in DependencyObject never gets hit! Although it does when I change the property to be a regular property and not a Dep Prop

My company is stuck on .Net 3.0. i need to bind the IsChecked property of the CheckBoxResolvesCEDAR to the CompletesCEDARWork in my Audio class. The more I read about this it appears that I have to declare CompletesCEDARWork as dependancy propert, but I can not find a good example of how this is done. I found this example, but when I pasted into my code I get an "is not defined" error for GetValue and I have not successfully figure out what MyCode is supposed to represent.

[using VB.NET, but I can easily read C# code in responses]I have a class called QuestionClipboard with ALL shared methods/properties. I previously had a QuesitonClipboard.doesClipboardHaveContent function that returned true/false if there was a Object on my 'clipboard'.I'd prefer to implement a Dependency Property so I can allow this true/false value to participate in data binding. The "GetValue(dp as DependencyProperty)" method requires an object instance, which would mean that my Property CAN'T be shared! Here is what the code would look like in my perfect world... Of course, the word "Shared" before the property declaration renders this code useless.
Private Shared clipboardHasContentPropertyKey As DependencyPropertyKey = DependencyProperty.RegisterReadOnly("clipboardHasContent", GetType(Boolean), GetType(QuestionClipboard), _

I have an asp.net usercontrol which represents a "popup" dialog. Basically, it's a wrapper for the jQuery UI dialog which can be subclassed to easily make dialogs. As part of this control, I need to inject a div into the page the control is used on, either at the very top or very bottom of the form so that when the popup is instantiated, it's parent is changed to this div. This allows "nested" popups without the child popup being trapped inside the parent popup.
The trouble is, I can't find a safe way to inject this div into the page. A usercontrol doesn't have a preinit event, so I can't do it there, and calling Page.Form.Controls.Add(...) in Init, Load or PreRender causes the standard exception "The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases."
I thought I had found a solution by using. ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Me.GetType, UniqueID + "_Dialog_Div", containerDiv, False) which seemed to work well normally, but recently a coworker tried putting an UpdatePanel inside the dialog and now she's getting the error "The script tag registered for type 'ASP.controls_order_viewzips_ascx' and key 'ctl00$ContentBody$OViewZips_Dialog_Div' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: . Only properly formatted script tags can be registered."
How are you supposed to add controls to the pages control collection from inside a user control?

I've created a custom control which consists of two radio buttons with their appearance set to "Button". This control is meant to act like two toggle buttons with an "On" toggle button and an "Off" toggle button. I have a public boolean property "isAOn" which is used to set the state of both buttons and I want to be able to bind this property to boolean values. I have imported the component model and set Now when I add this to a form for a boolean value in one of my classes it doesn't seem to update the boolean value of the class when I change the button pressed.
Here is the code:
Imports System.ComponentModel
''#
<DefaultBindingProperty("isAOn")> _
Public Class ToggleButtons

This is a related to my last post, but not enough to make sense as a tag on question.I have a collection(of myClass) that is exposed as a public property in a user control. When I add an item to the collection in code I would make the call collection.add(new myClass) and of course the constructor for myClass is called. When I add items to the collection via the design time menu the constructor for myClass is not called.... of it it is called, I can't see any evidence of it.

If I need access to the value of a user control's property BEFORE PreRender, would I need to base the custom control off of one of the preexisting data controls (repeater, listview, etc.)?One of my user controls features a gridview control that is configured based on the user control's properties on which it resides. Several of the key properties alter the SQL Statement for the underlying recordsource. I'm now in a situation where the property that sets the WHERE statement for the SQL Statement needs to tied to a value in the user control's parent FormView. Think of the formview as displaying a customer detail record. The user control takes the customer's account number and then displays data from a related table such as Customer Contact Names. Since the gridview is created before the control's prerender event, working within the prerender event doesn't seem efficient.

When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more. Here is my class:

I'm using an open source ribbon control that does not have click events for controls such as tabs, panels, etc. When I looked at the properties of the ribbon it does have the tabs, panels, etc. all in collections.I would like to change this (0) code so that I can get the index number of the control that the user clicks on. The tabs on this control are not like the regular tabs that come with Visual Studio. "Tabs" is a collection of Ribbon1.
Private Sub Ribbon1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Ribbon1.Click
MessageBox.Show("You clicked on:" & Ribbon1.Tabs.Item(0).ToString)

I have a simple user control, which is essentially just an AutoCompleteBox with some custom logic.
For a specific instance (a collection of Persons), I want it to look like this:
<sdk:AutoCompleteBox Name="myACB" ItemsSource="{Binding People}" FilterMode="StartsWith" MinimumPrefixLength="2" ValueMemberBinding={Binding LastName}>
[Code].....
I want the DisplayMember property to be the property name to display for whatever kind of custom collection (persons, cars, etc) I have bound to the AutoCompleteBox.
I don't think I can modify the datatemplate programmatically. Is there a way I can do this with binding (relative source)?

I'd want a text box that at design time the developer can set a datatype property so only a value matching that datatype can be entered at runtime (e.g. If we made the datatype property of a textbox an integer then the user could only enter numbers into that textbox)In additiion I need a further property to replace ".Text". .Text always holds the entered value as a string, I want the new property to contain what has been written into the textbox but as the datatype that has been selected at design time.

I have created a control inherited from a label.I want to add some items to the control at design-time and use a property TypeEditor to set those properties. I have no problems creating my properties for values for the custom control itself, but how do I best get access to the items (in this case more controls) that I want to add to the control?Explained another way; take the ribbon control toolbar in Office 2007. It appears to be a "label" that hosts buttons as members of its controls collection.
