I have a MS sql database (not server), my program reads file structure from my 2 TB external drive and saves the list a records in database. I write around 80k records every time and it takes a great time.I am currently writing records by dividing them into 2 background Worker thread 40k each. My pc is Quad core Phenom II.What is the best way to achieve this and also would there be any benefits by increasing the number of threads because mine is only a 7200rpm hdd and not raid. What I mean is HDD might be a limitation?

1. User opens a binary file, it can be several Gbytes in size so reading it into memory isn't practical.
2. User can then navigate through the file in 188byte chunks, data is read from disk, decoded, and displayed for each chunk in turn.
3. User may want to search for some data or build a report. This will involve repeating the read, decode, display, function multiple times. During this looping the GUI stops responding and there is no option to cancel so I want to make it multi-threaded. So, is it safe to open the file in the GUI thread and then read from the file in the background thread? I currently use something like this to open the file once:

I have an multi-database ODBC connection through a DSN. There is a primary database and two auxiliary catalogs. The Add Tables dialog in Microsoft Query only shows the tables in the primary database. If I pick one and continue on, the lists of columns in other parts of MS Query show all the columns in both the primary and auxiliary databases. If I pick a column, MS Query will look for that column in the primary database (great if it happens to be there, not so great if it doesn't). If I don't use any of the drop-down lists and just write a query in the freeform SQL editor, fully qualifying everything with the catalog names, the query runs fine.It looks as though MS Query is assuming only one database and one (default) catalog, and doesn't realize that it actually connected to several databases with separate catalogs.I get the same results with Office 2003 and Office 2007.Are multiple databases / multiple catalogs through a single DSN supported in Excel / Microsoft Query?
View 1 RepliesI'm working on an ASP.NET 4.0 site, which I inherited ownership of. It has a number of existing LINQ datasources pointing to individual tables. For example, to the Patient Encounter Summary table in SQL Server. The problem is in displaying the data there. It's a normalized database, so that table contains (for example) the provider ID, rather than the provider name.
It's simple enough to join the Patient Counter Summary to the Providers table (in SQL)... but how does one do that in ASP.NET? I'm not sure of the correct nomenclature, but the 'mid layer' is VB.

I am looking to remove an element from an ArrayList using a query, E.g. DELETE FROM arraylist WHERE (0) = "User1" (Where (0) is the index of the second dimension).

A database is then supposed to be queried to find the book and the book as well as its price, author etc.. are to be output on a new page. I have successfully run a simple sql query in vb.net and basically wanted to know how I can export the results from the query to a .txt file? All I really know is that I should be using StreamWriter. "SELECT column1, column2, from table1 where column1 = '1'" to a .txt file? Would it be best to first bind the data to a grid or can I skip that step?
