Create An Application That Captures A Resource From Another Application?
Dec 17, 2009I understand this is possible but I am not sure where to start. I want to either buy or create an application that captures a resource from another application so that I can fire off another application. In other words, I want to start an application (which I did not write) that is database driven so the form has a number of text boxes. When someone keys something into that field I want to be able to validate the value, outside of the original application. For instance, if the program asks for a zipcode and it doesn't validate the zipcode, I'd like to trap for that and write something that would validate it. At this point I don't think I'd have to send anything back to the textbox/resource.

Sep 5, 2011I have written an application which extracts a list of URL's (currently in Internet Explorer cache) from an XML file and displays them in a data grid view. From here i would like to launch Internet Explorer in a hidden mode and capture an image for each of the selected URL's in the data grid view. Is this possbile? If so what is the best way to go about it?

Aug 6, 2009I am running a oracle package's procedure which raises raise_application_error (). i.e Oracle sends the application error to Visual Basic 6.0 . After executing procedure, When I try to display the value of Err.description in immediate window it prints only 532 characters.. rest of the characters are truncated. Is there any limitation that Err.description would capture only 532 characters? When I run that procedure in SQLPLUS, it gives entire string without truncation.
Please guide me to display entire string in VB using Err.description when error description posts to VB by Oracle PL/SQL raise_application_error.
Screenshot Still Captures Invisible Form?
May 22, 2009I'm working on a project, and one thing it's supposed to do is make itself (the form) invisible, take a screenshot of the current screen, and the make itself visible again.[code]I made the 'FinishScreenshot function to call the 'TakeScreenShot' function, courtesy of AdamSpeight2008 and save that result as a specified image file in a specified location. the problem is, the screenshot ends up usually showing the form that was supposed to be invisible, but sometimes not (usually on the first form). I'm guessing this is because the FinishScreenshot and Take ScreenShot functions aren't finished working until after the form becomes visible again, but I'm not sure.

Oct 2, 2010I'm a computer science student and I have a project to do where I need to have VB connected to a webcam to take captures of items and then save them according to the item name that stores them into either a dbase or access database. I have knowledge of oledb using vb to retrieve and modify access databse so it might be better to head in that direction, but I have no clue how to get the webcam talking to vb and see the live feed from the cam until you take a picture and save.

Mar 4, 2012I am currently trying to write an application that uses more than one thuread, but I have little experience of this and the more I read about it, the more confusing it is.I currently have one main prog (StartupForm) that has 3 items defined as tool Strip items io the menu. Upon selecting each item, it runs the relevant Click subroutine.

Nov 20, 2008I am looking for some API or OCX or any other method to copy the existing file from Hard disk to the USB storage device.for that i would have to perform the following checks :
1> Check for the plugged in USB devices.
2> Find out for the available space(2GB) on each.
3> Prompting a message to user on which drive he would like to write that movie file.(As At a time i want to give only 1 disk write only.
4> after selecting the Drive, and pressing OK, i just want to copy the selected file from HDD to that Device.
Now For achieving this , i just need a reference of any Available API or OCX or any other method available in VB.net?

I was using xml files in the program filestill now and I need to get around using this because the files can be delete or over written incorrectly. I started using the settings option and realized application level is read only and i cannot use user scope because then it wont be global settings. Is there an alternative to this.

Apr 4, 2007I understand that I cannot use the System.Console to output information from a Windows Forms application because the standard input, output, and error streams are not run through the console in winforms apps. But I can't seem to find any documentation on where the standard input, output, and error streams are being directed to! Basically, I have a winforms app that accepts command line arguments and can be run in batch mode, however, I just want to direct some feedback to the user based on whatever method they're accessing the program. The app is used to redirect a client-server application from one server to another. In some instances, the user does it by hand (with a mouse), and other times they're doing it in batch mode (using SAS, command shell, VBScript, etc...). In those instances, I'd prefer NOT to use MessageBoxes because it will kill any processing they're doing.

1. User opens a binary file, it can be several Gbytes in size so reading it into memory isn't practical.
2. User can then navigate through the file in 188byte chunks, data is read from disk, decoded, and displayed for each chunk in turn.
3. User may want to search for some data or build a report. This will involve repeating the read, decode, display, function multiple times. During this looping the GUI stops responding and there is no option to cancel so I want to make it multi-threaded. So, is it safe to open the file in the GUI thread and then read from the file in the background thread? I currently use something like this to open the file once:

Vb Write To Text Box While Application Is Still Waiting For HTTP Request
Jan 23, 2012I have a form in VS2010, written in VB, and it has a subroutine calling for information out on the web using an httpwebrequest object. It takes a while for the response, and I would like the subroutine to write a message to the form (into a Label) for the user to see while waiting for the application to respond.
I tried writing the message with a Backgroundworker and then as a second thread. I got it to write the message, but it always seems to wait for the http response before writing the text. How do I write the text immediately, while waiting for the data?
