Application Level Settings With Read And Write?

Jul 13, 2011

I bet someone already asked this but i cant seem to find it. Ok i need is a global settings that can be updated which will affect all users. I was using xml files in the program filestill now and I need to get around using this because the files can be delete or over written incorrectly. I started using the settings option and realized application level is read only and i cannot use user scope because then it wont be global settings. Is there an alternative to this.

Site Level Folder Read/write/delete Permissions From Webpage?

Dec 20, 2011

I have a link on a VB.net aspx page that needs to open a folder in a subdirectory of a web site and provide read and write permissions so that files can be copied into and read from as well as deleted. ONLY from this folder.I have this funtionality working on a dev and demo PC but they are both on my domain. Clicking the link opens Windows Explorer and I can copy /cut & Paste, etc.The public/production PC is on the LAN, but not part of the domain. I know there are ways to allow folder read/write permissions on a public server like this but I am not too sure on the safest way to do this. The upside, the only users that need to have read/write/delete access are employees. Forms Authentication, ASP Membership directs non-employees to other pages within the site. Likewise, the membership directs employees to an admin section of the site.

.net - Read A Settings Value From The Web.config File In An ASP.NET Application?

Aug 18, 2010

I'm trying to use the following command:

Dim xmlFilePath As String = _
System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("XmlFilePath")

to retrieve the following setting:

<applicationSettings>
<MySolution.WebProject.My.MySettings>
<setting name="XmlFilePath" serializeAs="String">

[Code]....

However, xmlFilePath shows up as Nothing after that line of code is run.

What's the correct code to get a setting out of the web.config file in an ASP.NET application?

NOTE: Although you can add keys individually to the <appsettings> tag, I'm trying to figure out how to use it with the "Settings" tab in the project's properties.

VS 2008 Settings Are Read From App.config Instead Of Settings-file

Oct 30, 2009

I have created a settings-file for my plug-in-based app. When the mainApp writes the settings to the file, the pluginApp should read the settings from the settings-file (when opening or at runtime even better), but somehow it reads the settings from the app.config-file. This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

Application.Settings VB 2005 - Save Arrays Using The Settings System Object

Jan 14, 2009

I just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.

Structure Statement Using Module Level Array To Read File

Nov 27, 2008

Define a structure named product, The structure should contain 2 variables one as a string and the other as a decimal. The decimal is used to store the price and the string is used to store the item number.

Declare a module level array that contains 5 product structure variables

Code the main forms load event procedure so that it reads the item number and prices from the itemInfo.txt file The procedure should store the item numbers and prices in the module level array. It also should add the item numbers to the list box.

When the user selects an item in the list box the items price should appear in the xPriceLabel. code the appropriate procedure.

The code I have is as follows

' Project name: Glovers Project
' Project purpose: The project displays the price of an item.
' Created/revised: <your name> on <current date>

[Code].....

Seems the problem I am having is this line is returning a value less than 0.

itemprice = (itemnumber.Substring(productIndex, newLineIndex - productIndex))

.net - Response.write And Locale Settings

Oct 26, 2010

I am using VB .NET 4.0, ISS 7.0. I wondered how can I set the default locale for all applications?

The problem is rising when I have a Response.Write(str) the numbers appear with ","(german notation) rather than "."(us notation).

From where .NET knows that he need to use the german locale?

In every my js script I have added

Session.LCID = 3081;// to fix the ,->.

but this is the brute force solution to fix the problem. Are there more elegant way to configure the server/.NET?

Handle .net Exceptions At Application Level

Apr 2, 2009

I was reading a couple of articles a while back which I think described a behaviour where you can, in a .net application (specifically VB.net), allow an exception to occur, and then handle it in some kind of application-level exception handler, as opposed to within a Try/Catch block. My google-fu is weak at the moment, so I'm not having much luck guessing what this feature is called in order to find information about it.

Create Application-Level Mouse Events?

Aug 16, 2011

I have a program that I would like to create application-level MouseEnter and MouseLeave events for. Basically I have an app that I'd like to leave open that would be very opaque when not in use, and when the user moves the mouse anywhere within the bounds of the application, it becomes solid, and when they move their mouse away from the application, it becomes opaque again.

The obvious problem is that MouseEnter and MouseLeave are control-specific and so they fire every time you move over a button or menu or whatever, so Leave and Enter are constantly firing even though you haven't "left" or "entered" the application.

So, is there any way to create mouse events that only fire at the application level?

Which is the best way to store application and user settings of an application running with multiple instances?My problem is that using the vb's "Application Settings" one instance would overwrite the other one.I want to identify each instance with a number passed via command line argument. I could use this number to identify the appropriate settings of the running instance, but I see in a local INI o XML file a better way to handle that.
