I'm writing a program that need to use handwriting. I have mouse pen with USB interface(buy from Genius, MousePen i608). My idea is that I want to record employee's sign with picture box from my attended form. And then save in MS.access. But I have no idea how to connect my external device and vb.net 2005. how to connect those devices?

I have a VB project with a form where user adds/modifies the data, data are stored in SQL. On the form there are 2 tables that are linked by employee ID. When I test the process and insert a new employee record and add new comment for this new employee in DataGridView - when I save it I get an error that "Object reference is not set to an instance of an object". During more detailed debug it says that CurrentCell is set to Nothing - even that I do have values in all fields.I do set employee ID in the related table in the Grid to the value from the employee record - so all primary keys do have value and the comment is saved after all but I get an error and saved comment dissapears from the screen right after saving. When I pull the same new record again - everything is saved. What am I missing and how to avoid the error and dissapearing of the saved comment?
Also - I tried to save the new employee data in the first table first and then add comments - it didn't solve the problem. But if I add first part of information in the main table, save and close the form, then go back and add comment - it works fine. The problem is - it's not convenient for the user - they'd like to enter everything at once.

I'm trying to create a program, that upon opening, will read an input file containing a delimited employee record. The record will contain the name of the employee, their salary and the number of years they have been employed.I'm looking to display only the name of the employees in sorted order(alphabetically) and then when the user of the program selects a particular employee, I want to display the salary and number of years for that employee.I would like the user to be able to edit the recors for the employee and I would also like to have a way for the user to be able to add/remove an employee record and update the input file before the program is closed.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to create a program that will be able to recognize handwritten numbers in a picture. Right now, the program locates a rectangle that the numbers are in. The numbers will generally be in the range between 0 and 9000. I have found some stuff about ink recognition, but I dont think that is the same. Also, is there anyway to be able to make the program 'learn' from the style of the handwriting? I'm using VB.net 2008

You need to design and create a program that accepts input of employee name, employee type, and the number of hours worked each week for two weeks.
You must be able to select an employee type. An employee of type Trainee makes $10 per hour. An employee of type Regular makes $15 per hour. An employee of type Manager makes $20 per hour.
The program should calculate the employee pay for the week. The employee should receive 1 times the regular pay for any hours worked over the prescribed 40 hours in a week. The program should output the following information:
-The employees name without trailing or leading spaces
-Regular hours worked
-Regular pay
-Overtime hours worked
-Overtime pay
-Total pay
The Problem that i am having right now is "Displaying " the overtime hours on my "FORM VIEW" i mean i did the math right its just when i type (lblOverHrs.Text = CDec(CDec(OvrHrsWrkWeek1.Text) + CDec(txtOvrHrsWrkWeek2.Text))
Its says the "OvrHrsWrkWeek1 and 2" are not Declared which are..im not really sure where i went wrong..

I have records in a database. Each record has a Picture path in it eg. "C:\Pics\Image1.jpg". I would like to display a record from my database and also the picture for that record, in a .rdlc report in vb .net 2008. i have succeded in displaying the record but just can't get the picture to show. View 2 RepliesI have just created a picture viewer that can open the picture and show it in the picture box on my form, but I want the program to open more than one file as normal programs do. How do I make this happen? I want it to show the next button on the form especially when there is more than one picture on the directory I am currently opening the picture from.
The program opens only one picture and I have to open new picture again and again instead of using the next arrow.

then while the program is running, the PictureBox.image is changed
then when the form closes, I try to save the picture like this:

This only works if I try to save to another file other than pic.bmp. However I want to overwrite it.. but it throws an exception "A generic error has occurred in gdi+"

I have created a project that has an add a new record, edit record and a search form, that has multiple text, combo boxes and is working great.Last nite I have added a checkbox under my add new record form and i am saving the checkbox value to my database, so far so good. I would like to be able to search any record that is mark with a checkbox to show up in my search screen when I do a search: [code] The problem that i am having is that now that I have added the code to my project to search for the checkbox field in the search screen and if I leave everything blank and click on the the search button I get no record found. I expected to see all that data, since I have nothing selected. Now if I click my checkbox, as soon as I click on my search button I see that two records that I have added for my test.

I want to both table in form detail view most using combo box. if I used Employee detail view and Employee_Permission Datagridview than its work fine to add/edit/update but if table Employee_permission I used detailview (all Combobox) than I can not add/edit/update records. The election officers wanted that the Server Program will display the Voting Results at real time... So when the Voter finished voting, The Voting Result displayed by the Server Program will also be updated every time the Client Program Insert the data to Database....

I am leaning VB and have created a basic inventory app for work that consist of 4 tables, CurrentInventory, Surplus, Staff and Category. Each of these tables have a corresponding form. My question is with the CurrentInventory and Surplus form/tables. I want a button on the CurrentInventory Form that when clicked the current record would be transferred to the Surplus table and deleted from the CurrentInventory table.I am assuming that I could somehow use the INSERT command to copy the current record to the surplus table but I am not sure how to accomplish this.
View 5 RepliesI wrote the code and it runs through it perfectly, the problem is that it will only save it to the database temporarily. So once I close down visual studio for the night and come back to it what's been entered is gone. It's not a published program still in debug mode but I've not run into this before. I have another program I'm working on that I'm running purely in debug mode and it works flawlessly. The code between the two is the same cause I just copied it and changed the parameters. Any ideas? I'm using an sql mdf btw.I should clarify, don't know if it matters or not, that the DB that is working is in SQL server whereas the DB I'm having trouble with is a mdf that I added into the program.
