.NET Console StandardOutput Does Not Return Input "question"

I am trying to completely intercept a console application, that is, grabbing it's output, and inserting the input. So far, I can pretty much grab the output, and input is completely perfect. However, it will not show the "prefix"/"question" of the console's output, until you send some input. As an example, when hooking to the CMD.exe console. When you regularly start it up in Windows, you get something like this:

I have seen countless examples of reading standard output from command line applications which print text to the screen and one can read that back into the application as a string. I want to read the binary data back that is written to standard output from something such as image magick's convert program. What is coming back is an image, not a text result or error code. Is this possible? I have been looking for ages but found nothing that makes sense.

I'm trying to write a console application in VB.Net (2008) to accept a command line argument input (a password) and output the hash. I modified the code here so that it would accept an argument and I added my own salt/key but the output appears to be incorrect when compared to PHP's output for the same password and salt.I need something like this so I will have a way to get a SHA512 hash using MS Access VBA. Can you recommend a better solution than what I'm trying or point me to something simpler than the link above? I could possibly post my code here but it's quite long.

How to accept input into a vb.net console application? How Do I allow people to type into a vb.net console application, and then press enter, and then the console application writes that and uses the console.writeline function to write what the person typed in into the network stream(or whatever its called).

I wrote a simple console program (simplecopy) that copies its input to output:

The output is the content of testdata.txt, but with three extra characters (hex b4 2b 2b) inserted at the beginning of the output. Those three bytes are not there when I run simplecopy without input redirection.

How to create a console application which would read input from user and assign the input to a variable? The problem is, I need to enter several words on one line separated with blank spaces like "ab cd efg" and then assign ab to one variable, cd to another variable and efg to another variable. Also the entered words can be any lenght.

Okay so i want to build an application that "wraps" another, the app that i want it to read console reports stuff like
[WAIT] Preparing world... 10%
and stuff, and it can take commands like
say kick, etc
So basically i want to know if i can read the console output in realtime and input to it as well.

I run a process (ffmpeg) in a backgroundworker and need it's output to calcute remaining time, estimated filesize etc. but I don't get any output from it. Here's the code used in the DoWork sub

The process runs and creates the file I'm expecting. I just don't get any output from it while doing it's work. The debug MsgBox shows one time and contains nothing but if I run ffmpeg without redirection in a shell it's outputting a new line every second.

I have the following Code so the User can enter their domain before the program runs. The resulting textfile does not output the users..just the word Schema...

Vb is not my language of choice , but I have to do this for school and I'm not having a very easy time with VB's documentation.I'm just creating a very simple console application that accepts user input: degrees in Celsius, and converts it into Fahrenheit. I'm running a program and reading the command line output, and, when I compare the output I get with the actual output of the program, I'm quite shocked to see that it doesn't actually match up and, sometimes, the text won't even display at all until after the entire process is done [despite using the Asynchronous methods].I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong here...I can post the code [it's a rough translation from VB.net to C#, which I can easily translate back], but is there anything I can actually do to fix this issue

Say I've got the following variables:
Public Shared x As String = "100"
Public Shared y As String = "text"
Public Shared z As String = "something"

But this doesn't do what I want, naturally. What I want is that my function giveVar returns the value of the variable that holds giveVar. For example I call giveVar("x") I want my function to return "100".
Of course this can be done by a Select Case but thats not what I like to do. Is it even possible to call a value based on a string?

I wrote a gui for a console app, wanted to captaure console app standarderror and standardoutput in the same time. I write a code, but it's not executed in the same time. I searched msdn and found that using DataReceivedEventHandler can be asynchronously collect the redirected StandardOutput or StandardError stream output of a proces. But I dont know how to apply it to my code. please help me. i wanted to collect standardoutput and standarderror and append it to a textbox. here is my code,As far as I understand, I have to read one stream synchronously and one asynchronously to avoid deadlock situations.But now it's not output in the same time. having delay issue for standarderror.

I would like to develop a structure to maintain my user's text input somehow on each form to allow user to return to the form and see the prior input for potential editing. My app has four forms which accept user input and form a string for output to printer. In the eventuality that the user notes a mistake in the input after leaving the app, I would like to develop a structure to "save" the user input at the form level and allow for repopulating the text boxes with the prior user input. Make sense? I have no idea how accomplish that functionality. Maybe it's too complex for my purposes. What do the pros think?

It's been a good few years since I dabbled in VB and I'm very very rusty so any help would be great! What I'm looking to do is search an access database with user input and display the relevant record.I have a single table set up in an access database called school_info with the following fields and data:
Tres________DfE________Name_________Type
001________1234________School 1________Primary
002________4321________School 2________Secondary

I've linked the database to my new project, connected the database and added the 4 fields to my form. When I run it, the data shows in the boxes fine.The Tres and DfE fields are show in text boxes on the VB form, and the school and Type are show in labels. What I really want to do is be able to manually type in either a Tres or DfE number into the relevant text field and have the other labels auto populate with the relevant data that's stored in the database table.

I was hoping someone could assist with the following coding; I am trying to search a very large csv file (approx 200,000 lines) for a user defined string eg "0100020789" and I essentially want to print all the lines that contain this to a text box on screen. Please not that the csv file does not have standardised column headings, each line is different. There would be approx 5 lines that contain the input string.
I am concerned with the v large csv i am using which will prob slow everything down, but then I thought if simple text pad application can search for a string in complete files with similar sizes like that and return a result in less than 1second, then it must be do-able.

I have an input parameter for my stored Proc, Instead of choosing available values from a drop Dwn, the customer wants an empty input box that when left blank returns all records. the parameter type is numeric(6,0) in the Db. I have not found a way to leave the input blank and retrieve all records. my default value for all records is '-99' and also is declared as the default value for the param in the proc.

In this application I need to allow users to enter a month as integer (1-12) then use integer tryparse to validate that input, that seems to be the easy part. I need two create two functions, one that returns the name of the month and the other returns the number of days in that month. The arrays are supposed to be defined and initialized within the function so that the main program can take the user input and call the two functions, then return the appropriate values as output to labels. I am not sure how to declare the arrays in their appropriate functions and then how to call those functions to retrieve the right value from the function.

I have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

I was thinking of adding a simple bandwidth monitor to a console application and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep a line in the console window visible at all times. I could set something up manually to pass new console output into a method that would get the contents of the console, clear the console, add the bandwidth data on the first row, then rewrite each line of previous information back to the console, etc.. but that seems like a really hacky way to go about it, and I'd be limited to the amount of rows visible at once in the console window (no scrolling).

I am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.
