I want to create a setup which requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and .NET Framework 3.5. If this software isn't installed, the Setup should offer the user to install them now.

View 3 RepliesIt might be funny , but I'll ask anyway : is it allowed to create a program with VS2008 while at the same time it will use the Microsoft framework 4.0 ? I am asking because I use VS2008 while at the same time I have the impression that framework 4.0 is "lighter" than 3.5 .

I have a fresh installed VB2010 and a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2.And I can't seem to connect my database to VS2010. I've been searching the net but I can't seem to find the solution to my problem.

I'm using the setup method to deploy an app I wrote. The program installs fine, but If I want to reinstall it I get an error message saying the program is already installed and I have to uninstall it first. Is there a flag somewhere when I create the setup file to allow it be installed over itself?
View 3 RepliesWe're in the process of releasing software and i've noticed that our standalone version (Windows forms) reinstalls for each users, the issue for this is that we sell to colleges and generally they install of network shares. When the software tries installing for a user it can't find the network share (e.g. permission denied).
How can i stop the installer from launching when the user launches the software.

I have a setup and deployment project that installs my application. During installation, I create a hierarchy of folders under the C: drive.
However, when I use add/remove programs to uninstall my application, I do NOT want this hierarchy of folders to be removed. How is this possible?
Also, when creating the folders, I set "AlwaysCreate" to True. If one of the folders already exists, will it be replaced with my new empty folder? If so, how can I prevent this.
I am new user of Crystal Reports and experienced at using VS2008 (VB). I have a big gap that I have found no explanation on bridging. There must be some type of import process that I have been unable to find.
I built a report using SQL Server 2005 (Business Intelligence Dev Studio) and it works. I need to use the report in a VS2008 (VB) project. How do I get it into my VB project and call it? The SQL project creates a report with an .rdl definition file. I think the VB project requires an .rpt file. How do I import it into the VB project?
I'm facing a major problem with a Deployment Project I created to install one of my applications.I am using the ENGLISH IDE of the Visual Studio 2008 - even though my end users will have German environments. This is why I set the

Property in the Deployment Project's Properties. The UI of the generated setup is German, so all's fine there. However, the setup installs the ENGLISH .Net Framework. I have not found any way around this.The problem are at least twofold:
1. An English Framework on a German PC might cause instabilities.
2. It's a big flaw to see UI inconsistencies (i.e. the UI and Setup of the application is German while the NET Framework shows certain elements in English, e.g. the DisplayName property of cultures)how can I get the project to install the localized .NET Framework?

Part of my project requires me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview(form2.vb) and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). The problem is the datagridview on my form must be able to display databases by making a connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 but so far, i have not been able to do that. I have seen many codes with regards to my problem but i do not know how to implement it.

Trying to print out some reports into an excel document on the clients machine - of course it works fine on my local (heard that before right). I went in and set my references Ms.Office.Core and Ms.Office.Interop.Excel to 'Copy Local' = True so the .dll are in the servers bin folder.

Exception occured while the installation.System.Io.filenotFoundException.could not load the file of assembly file or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified."..After that i got one more Error box that says "fatal Error during installation"..By the above errors i could not uninstall the Application from my system.How can i solve this error? and is there any other way to uninstall the application from my Machine?

Now i am in a problem that my setup dose not check for the already installed prerequiest it starts the prerequiest installation no mater if they are installed or not. after the installation of these prerequiest it says to restart the computer and after restart it starts the prerequiest setup again.

I have a simple windows Service developed in VS.net 2008 and VB.net. When I install the service using Installutil.exe from the command prompt it is working like a charm.
When I try to add a setup project and set the output and build and install it though it says successfully installed, it is not showing up in the services.
The event log shows that it is successfully installed. I just did check the registry, it did place the assemblies in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftinstallerassemblies.
But I don't understand why it is not showing up in the services listing. I refreshed and restarted.
I am working on a legacy VB.NET application that uses Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word, with Office 2003 installed on the server. When I publish my site, even though my config file clearly shows v11: The site will crash saying v12 couldn't be found: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
Note: I currently have Office 2003 & 2007 installed on my dev machine, also, when looking @ references I am given the option of selecting v11 or v12 (so v11 is def. there). Within a page on the site the page does an import statement for Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word. Is it possible to specify the version at this point, or any way to force it to use v11 without me uninstalling my v12?

View 6 RepliesI have created an application in VB.Net 2010 and am using an Access 2010 db. Connecting to this DB I use the Provider= Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 and it works fine on my machine. This was a recent update from using Jet as that provider was having issues on client Win64 computers that had Access 2007 or 2010 installed.Basically my issue is that I get the error that Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 is not installed when I try to run the application on the client.
The problem however, is that I do not want ask the users to install Data Access Objects in addition to .Net 4.0. I want a simple install that they can run and upgrade to .net 4.0 if they need to. The above thread states a solution as "You can also consider to use ADO.NET object in System.Data.OleDb namespace to connect to the Access database instead of the Provider. In my opinion, this is the best choice since the ADO.NET provides you the powerful data access objects." This sounds like a great option, however I cannot find any way to install the ACE dll and get it to work on the client.what do I need to include in the client installer to get my application to run on systems without Access installed? Do I just include the ACEODB.dll or is there something else that needs to be done?
I am building a VB 2008 Express Edition application.I have built a database (with a single table) using SQL Server Compact 3.5 and have connected it to the project. I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).
