I would like to know if there's anything that can display data differently than what's stored in the DB.Here's my example. I have a column called Active and in the DB table, 0 represents Active, -1 represents InActive.In my report, when showing whether or not a listing is Active, I'd rather have the words Active and Inactive rather than 0 and -1.

I have couple of images in my SQL SErver 2008 table of which the datatype is image.In my VS.net 2008 project I have a crystal report which is displaying all the fileds from that table. But the image is showing as blank.

View 2 RepliesI have a simple windows form that i would like to send the values of a few textboxes and comboboxes to an rdlc report after saving them (I have VS 2005 standard, so no crystal reports) - it's as follows:
-1 form
-3 textboxes - textbox1, textbox2, textbox3
-1 label - label1
-1 combobox - combobox1
-5 buttons - button1, button2, button3, button4, button 5
the textboxes are labeled length, width, height the combobox is labled unit of measure and contains two options - inches or centimetres the label has text of "your total cubic inches/centimetres is:" - followed by the unit of measure selected.the buttons are labeled save, calculate, print, print preview, and exit.Having said all of the above, the save, calculate and exit button code is easy enough and is good to go - it's print and print preview i'm stuck on the solution i'm after is to take those values and send them to an rdlc report that immediately prints (calls up the default printer dialogue) without preview or anything when the print button is clicked and also have a print preview function as well for when of course the print preview button is clicked.The report has already been created with the titles mentioned above..
I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.
So this is what I got.

It only adds the first rows details to the text box when I click the second record the first rows details are still there.

One is the ability to link tables with a Right Outer Join or Full Outer Join. I also cannot "Show SQL Query" in Crystal Reports. Is this something I can enable or do I have to purchase or upgrade?
View 1 RepliesBasically, I am looking for a method on how to preview reports from a datagrid or it can be from the access database which populates the data to the datagrid (then displays this in the datagridview) in vb.net vs 2010.I believe there are two methods using the ReportViewer or using Crystal Reports, but so far, I have no idea how to get them to work. The first idea would be favourable - using the data from a datagridview (which may of already been sorted, filter etc) and be able to produce a report on that.

What needs to be done is pretty simple, but I have no clue where to start with parsing the XML.The application will do this:Click a button to browse to an XML file where the format is static. Once the file is loaded, parse the file and generate a report using specific fields from the XML file. Criteria will be based on State(completed or incomplete), activity(Inspection, sample, etc). Here is 1 record of the XML file. Each consecutive record uses the exact same format.

I can articulate my question well enough to get some clear and usable feedback here. I have reports (like paper reports) in my .NET application that have data bound to them. Typically the reports are a combination of many data elements across several busniess entites that may not all relate through an Inheritance hierarcy, etc. This makes it difficult to get all the needed data placed together to bind to the report.
So what I have done before are make 'Report' classes with data elements specific to supporting the reports they are bound to, and on the back end might be tied to specially created Stored Procedures that bring this data back (maybe several joins across many tables to get the right data needed). So if I was to make an analogy to the database world, I am essentially 'denormailizing' the data structure to get all of this data into a single class to make it easy to bind to the report.
However on the hard line OOP concepts and architecture design, one could say that a report is just another 'thing' to bind data to, and its class should not be designed just to suit the needs of data binding. In this thought process, I would actually need to make my class design be able to create the relationships needed to get all of the data together properly to still be bound, but not create any special 'Report' classes. I find this difficult to do sometimes. It is much easier to create these relationships in the back end stored procedures and then just output the resultset to be almost immediately bound to the report.
So what is the right way to solve this? If I create these specialized report classes with really no behavior, am I introducing an anti-pattern like the Anemic Domain Model?I could use some feedback, and please speak up if my question and scenarios did not make sense.

View 1 RepliesI am getting an incorrect repsonse after an update to a table. In my RowUpdating event I have the following code which builds an Update Parameter to call an SP to update a table. I must be doing something wrong but everything runs fine. My rowsAffected variable reports 1 after the update, but the table never gets the data.[code]I found a solution that is working. On the original DataSource for the update command I needed to add the following.[code]This in essence allows the original data source to call the SP. Note: that the command type needs to stay as TEXT not Stored Procedure as one might think.

I'm working with Crystal Reports in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005.I have a List(Of Stuff) that I've sorted according to one of the object's members.I've verified in the debugger that the list is sorted correctly.When I define my list as the data source, as in
rptDetails.Subreports.Item("rptSubReport").SetDataSource(theListOfStuff)
and view the report, the list is reversed.So, looking for a workaround, I said, "OK, I'll sort the list backwards before binding it."The list still appeared backwards in the report.So something's happening, and I think it's within the report definition, because I don't know where else the sort order could be changed
I have created a data source connection to an access db by using the wizard in vs2008. I have then used this as a data source for crystal reports. My user would like to put the database on a network and reference it there. Is there a way to set a new path for this data source during runtime?
