.net - Force Editing On DataGridView To One Column?

Dec 17, 2010

I want to only allow editing of one column in my DataGridView, but I want to allow the user to double click on any item in the row, and when the CellBeginEdit fires, force editing of my colum. I started by doing this:

Private Sub dgvCaptions_CellBeginEdit(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellCancelEventArgs) Handles dgvCaptions.CellBeginEdit
If e.ColumnIndex <> COL_CAPTION Then[code].....

But this throws an error in the BeginEdit(False) line because 'Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the BeginEdit function.' which of course it will do, but that is what I want. Is there another way to do this?

Editing Data On Particular Column In DataGridView

Feb 10, 2010

I'm having problems editing the text of a particular column in a datagridview from the front end. The text enters ok but as soon as the cell loses focus it goes back to the old value. The datagrid view readonly property is set to false and I don't have any problem writing to the other columns.

Detect Which Column Is Showing An Editing Control In A Datagridview?

i have a DataGridView responsible for showing a bit of data and two of my columns allow for user input using comboboxes. The trouble is that one column only needs to show preset values in it's list, but the other needs to both show the presets and allow for the user to enter in their own values.i accomplish this by showing the editing control for the combobox with this bit of code:

Private Sub DGV_EditingControlShowing(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewEditingControlShowingEventArgs) Handles DGV.EditingControlShowing

Preventing Column Auto Sort After Editing A Bound DataGridView

Jun 26, 2009

I've got a DataGridView that has a DataTable as it's Datasource. Whenever I sort a column and then edit a cell, after editing the column, the column autosorts so the recently edited cell is no longer in the viewable area. Is there any way to prevent this auto sort from happening and only sort when I click on the columns?

Disabling Editing A Column Of A GridView?

Aug 25, 2011

All my collegue programmer asked me to do is disable the editing of a checkbox in a grid. I have tried to set the column to readonly, does not work, does not seem to have any effect:

dgvPatients.Columns(0).ReadOnly = True in the Load handler of the containing form.

The code happily goes to the compiler, but the GUI still allows editting.

And I tried catching the CellClick event, and in the handler do nothing. It gets there, but still it does, what it did, editing that checkbox. Propably some other event or the parents of the class event is still changing the checkbox.I used dgvPatients.CellContentClick I have also set the property:

In the properties, gridview, edit columns, select that column, bound columns properties, ReadOnly to true in the designer, it let me down. Still the gui lets the user change that check box. what I am doing wrong? My collegue will be in tomorrow, may-be he knows but it bites me this problem.I have searched on the internet, I have spend quite a lot of effort in it, and I am out of options now. What is this??

Force DataGridView To Update Underlying DataTable

Mar 27, 2012

I need to force a DataGridView cell to update the underlying DataTable.I fill a DataTable using my adapters Fill method, then set that DataTable as my DataGridView's datasource. Lets say one of my DataGridView columns is a CheckBox column. If I left-click a checkbox in the first row and then left click a different row in the DataGridView the underlying DataTable_RowChanged event fires, which tells me the first edit I did has gone to the underlying DataTable. If I left-click the checkbox in a row and then right-click the column header to display my context menu the DataTable_ RowChanged event doesn't fire because the DataGridView row is still in edit mode.I've tried Me.DataGridView.EndEdit(),but that doesn't cause my RowChanged event to fire,I need to ensure my underlying DataTable matches the data in the DataGridView, because I am getting a subset of my original table.[code]

Force DataSet To Update On DataGridView CellDoubleClick?

Jul 29, 2010

I have a DataGridView bound to a DataView. The DGV is setup for FullRowSelect and is ReadOnly. The first column contains a CheckBox to show that the Row is ready for processing. The user double-clicks on the row and the box is checked in the CellDoubleClick event. This works great.

I have a RadioButton on the page to hide any checked items. This allows the user to only have to look at the work that needs to be done. I use a filter on the DataView to make this happen. At the end of the CellDoubleClick, I call my ApplyFilter method, but the current row still shows up.

I got around this once before by writing some code to see if I needed to move forward or backward a row and also compared if there were any rows available, etc.

It seems to me that this relates to the value not being persisted back to the DataSet until the CurrentRow is changed in the DGV. Is there a way to force this data back into the DataSet without having to programatically change the value directly in the DataSet?

User Editing Of Datagridview?

Feb 5, 2010

I'm trying to add functionality to my DGV that enables the user to edit the cell data and then save it to the datasource but I'm not getting very far. Right now, I'm just concerned with the editing the DGV part.

What's the best way to do this taking into consideration: A column of type date in hh:mm format will not edit. At the moment this column won't display the new edit and if I attempt to enter and display a string instead of a hh:mm rime format, I get an error)I need to provide validation for the value that is entered. There are loads of events for DGV cells

DataGridView Editing Cells On WinForms?

Mar 10, 2012

I have a Windows Form VS2010 .NET 4 project with a standard DataGridView bound to a datasource on a form.

The grid has a text column that I want to be a point and edit at the character clicked to. Like normal textbox/editors when you click on the character you want to adjust. If possible I would also like to use the UP/DOWN keys to move between rows but would like the cursor to move to the same character position obviously in the same column without selecting the entire text.

I have tried a few things:

DataGridView1.ClearSelection()
DataGridView1.BeginEdit(False)

The BeginEdit just puts the cursor at the end of the text, which means another click to point to the character position for editing.

I know a Commercial grid like DevExpress defaults to editing in which you can click to the correct character position with one click but obviously costs money.

I have tried in the DataGridView1_EditingControlShowing event

If TypeOf e.Control Is System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewTextBoxEditingControl Then
Dim tb As TextBox = e.Control
tb.SelectionStart = 5

[Code]....

I am just trying to remove the two or three clicks to get to the character position that needs adjustment.

ListView And DataGridView - Editing Functionality

I am now using vb.net 3 months, it appears to me that basically there are 2 objects in vb.net objects and lists of objects. The rest is inherited or extended modes of these two concepts. Why then use so completely different syntax and names for two objects which appears the same : listview and datagridview. Simple version of the datagridview without the editing functionality being the listview would be much more simpler.

Refreshing DataGridView After Editing A Record?

Mar 12, 2011

I have a DataGridView bound to a datatable which comes from an SQL Server database. When the user edits a record my update statement changes the field datetimemodified to reflect the last date and time the record was edited (as stored procedure). The new value for datetimemodified is not brought into my DataGridView.

1) How do I refresh a DataGridView bound to a DataTable? Is there any way to refresh or resync only records that have changed instead of the entire DataTable? (Note: my update statement is working fine. I'm only wondering about refreshing the DataGridView.)

2) Would it be better to change the value of DateTimeModified on the client side so that I can avoid a refresh (assuming that this is the only reason I need to refresh the data)?

Force A Commit On The Current Row From Within A Virtual Unbound DataGridView's Edit Control Event Handler?

Sep 8, 2011

Using the walkthrough from [URL], I implemented a DatagridView in virtual mode, totally unbound, in VB 10 Express (we are talking WinForms).

I understand that CommitEdit (DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit) commits the current cell's contents to the data cache.

The example uses row-level commit, i.e. it pushes the values into a row buffer until the current row is left. Only then the row is added to (or updated in) the data store. That's exactly what I do, too.

Question -- how can I commit the current row programmatically without leaving it? (I want to commit the whole row, not just the current cell.)

If the user leaves the row, there is a RowValidating, RowValidated, RowEnter event sequence where the datastore update is taken care of. So one idea (currently my only one) was to simply re-set CurrentCell to Nothing, for example.

But I cannot just set the DataGridView's CurrentCell property to Nothing (or any cell outside of the current row) since I want to commit from within an event handler of a custom edit control created by a custom column, and I see an System.InvalidOperationException exception when setting CurrentCell there.

In fact, it is a tiny button right to a combo box, i.e. I create a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendant which is a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn descendant's edit control. My special ComboBox cell adds a tiny button which should commit the current row. Unfortunately, that button's _Click event handler cannot change CurrentCell since DetachEditingControl throws the exception then.

Obviously, I must delay the CurrentCell re-assignment until the whole _Click event has been processed. Or what? How would I do that -- register a custom Windows message, SendMessage that one to me, and override the windows procedure of the form so it re-sets CurrentCell when this message is received? (Hello?)

There should be a rather easy way to let DataGridView commit all changes by firing the events that I handle to perform the datastore update, no?

C# - After Which Event Should Perform An Action After Editing A Cell In A DataGridView

Email Address
Resolved Email Address (calculated based on the input in Email Address)

After the user inputs or changes a value in Email Address, I want the value in Resolved Email Address to update based on a separate method. What event should I tie in to so that that the Resolved Email Address cell is updated after the Email Address cell is updated?I'm not sure where to put the event because the user could do a number of things after adding/changing a value: tab to the next cell, click cancel on the form, click ok on the form, etc.

Saving Value Of DataGridView Cell Before Editing For Undo Purpose

Sep 12, 2011

I am adding an undo feature for a DataGridView using the Command Design Pattern. To create the EditCommand, I have to know what was the previous value of the cell, so I can re-enter it in case the user hits undo. I'm doing it using the CellBeginEdit and CellEndEdit events. With the CellBeginEdit, I save the value of the cell in a private variable and at the CellEndEdit function, I use the saved value to create the EditCommand. It's working fine, but I wonder if there is a more saner way to do it. Maybe a event that holds together the previous and the new cell value. Bonus points if I could actually prevent the DataGridView from updating itself and let the EditCommand do it.
