I'm creating a textbox at runtime, which works fine, but now I need it to have a selection_change. How do I do that?
View 9 RepliesIs there a method for doing this in VB.NET. I have what I need, but in C#, I have no idea on how to do this with VB.NET.

I'm trying to use a single event handler for several controls in an ASP.NET web page. I would like to add the event handler at runtime if and only if it doesn't already exist. In C#, I would write it as seen below:
if (myTextBox.OnTextChanged == null) myTextBox.OnTextChanged += DoTextChangingValidation;
Likewise, I know I can remove the event handler as follows:
if (myTextBox.OnTextChanged != null) myTextBox.OnTextChanged -= DoTextChangingValidation;
[code].....
I'm adding some functionality to an app that was made a few years ago and I need to raise an event when the tabcontrol is clicked. However it would seem because the control was created publicy I can't add a handler to it? I never ran across this before. I stripped the code down to the bare essentials. As you can see in the image, if I Dim the control within the sub I can add the handler. But any handler created for the publicly created control fails.
Is there another way to create the hander in this case?
I would like to ask a question with DataGridView event handling.The event I am going to handle is the double-clicking of a cell in a DataGridView:If the DataGridView's are statically drawn on the form at design time, then it is easy to assign to each of them an even handler by double clicking the corresponding event in the properties panel.
Private
SubDataGridView1_CellDoubleClick(sender
AsSystem.Object,
[code]....
So basically I have handle to all of the DataGridView's. Is there a way to create a common event handler on this basis?
I am passing some values from a Gridview Update Click event to a popup ASP.net page that dynamically builds a series of textboxes in a Placeholder based on the number of sentences that are found in a specific cell of the Grid Row selected.The boxes that are built represent each sentence found in the cell of the selected row. Each sentence is presented for translation, where user enters data into a 2nd dynamically generated textbox.This all works great.Now I have a Listbox beside the 2nd textbox, which sometimes has 1 or more variables that need to placed into the translated sentence. I have set up a Hover menu over the listbox so that I can select the variable and insert it at the end of the sentence in the 2nd textbox. My problem is generating the click event on the dynamically created Listbox. Something like....
Protected Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
TextBox1.Text = TextBox1.Text & ListBox1.SelectedValue
[code]....
I have to create controls for inputting info to create people objects in the program, because I don't know how many people they are going to input, I have a button that they can press to add more fields.
I need to add a doubleclick event for these dynamic controls (text boxes), how can I create an event for them if they haven't been created yet. Also, as far as I know you cant make a variable part of an object name while declaring it. I need to do something like
Dim dynamicText & (Append variable counter each time a box is made)As New TextBox
dynamicText &variable counter. Name = "TimeTextBox"
dynamicText.Text = "SdgsdG"
dynamicText.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(100, 100)
[code].....
Also is there a way to like copy and paste a group of controls via code instead of having to code each individual one like if I had to do a text box along with a combo box and a lable all at once, can I throw it into something so I only have to recreate the container?
Here is the code for the button click event;
Protected Sub CompetenciesButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CompetenciesButton.Click
Dim con As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("foo").ToString()
[code].....
I have code that refers to controls like buttons and labels and textboxes (obviously), but i want to create them programatically, how can i create a button or label that is on a form that has also been created programatically. Here is what i have:
Dim frmIndashone As Windows.Forms.Form
Dim vscPage As Windows.Forms.ScrollBar
Dim lblPageNum As Windows.Forms.Label
Dim txtVector As Windows.Forms.TextBox
Dim txtPageCode As Windows.Forms.TextBox
I am asking because i have a With statement that assigns different values to the different things that looks like this below:
RaiseEvent Load(frmIndashone)
With frmIndashone
.vscPage.min = 1
[code]....
But i am told on everyline of the second snippet that vdcPage, lblPageNum, txtVector and txtPageCode are not members of windows.Forms.Form, How can i make them members?
The event handlers in my parent class are never called though the events are raised in the child class.
The Code:
Public Class childForm
Public Event checkboxchangedEvent(ByVal checkbox1 As Boolean, ByVal checkbox2 As Boolean)
Private Sub checkboxchanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CheckBox1.CheckedChanged, CheckBox2.CheckedChanged
[code]....
I want to create a event handler that detects a Directory created/deleted event. is it possible to do using a FileSystemWatcher?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create an event handler for a graphic elipse, so I can do the math in a separate "control box". There will be multiple graphic elipses feeding the TextBoxE1 box. ( As for all the note textboxes.) This is a graphic creation of a guitar neck that will tie to a 2 table database. Click on a note & it will be identified, a series of notes will call on the related scales from the database. The problem is that I need to create an event handler for each graphic elipse so the code won't fire unless the elipse is clicked on. If only one elipse in that keynote value is clicked, it will put a "1" in TextBoxE3. TextBoxE1 & TextBoxE2 will be hidden.
TextBoxE1 value = "0" until at least one "E" is clicked. ( Elipse that is valued as "E".)
TextBoxE2 value = "1"
TextBoxE3 value = TextBoxE1 + TextBoxE2

I am developing an application and I use a 3rd party library which is basically Native excel. The problem is that this library does not implement an event which is able to notify me when the value of a cell value changes.

I am trying to learn Visual Basic and am working through a text book that my son used for a class. Each time I create an event handler by double clicking on the design page, the code that automatically populates is almost identical to the code in the book, except the byval portion is omitted from the code.[code]
View 2 Replieshow would I create an event procedure for something not yet on a form?
View 3 RepliesHow do I get a Event Handler to fire from within a nother Event Handler?
View 6 RepliesIf you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:
Public class example
private IAmAObject As IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
Or like this:
public class example
private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?
remove an event handler from within the event handler?
I have a class that gets data from a hand scanner. When the scan is complete and the data is validated, the class fires a custom "ScanComplete" event and returns the data in a custom EventArgs.
In the calling program, I'm creating an instance of the scanning class and adding a handler for the "ScanComplete" event. In the event handler I get the data that was scanned and then remove the handler.
It seems to be working but it feels wrong to remove the handler while I'm running inside the handler. Will this cause a problem?
I'm trying to complete this airline reservation application, but having a problem in this part of the question:Creat an event handler for the FlightBindingSource's PositionChanged event: select FlightBindingSource in the class Name combobox then select position changed in method name combobox to creat the FlightBindingSource's PositionChanged event handler. Write a code to access the currently displayed flight object and pass its flightNumber to method DisplayPassengers as a decimal.This Is my code so far:

Public Class AirlineReservationForm
Private database As New ReservationsDataClassesDataContext()
Private Sub FillAll()[code].....
I have a text file filled with the locations of pictures and I have this code to dynamicly create picture boxes on my form, the code works because it does create one picture box but no more than that, my question is what do I have to do to this code to get all the picture boxes created?
CODE:
Also How would I dynamicly add a Handler for every Picture box created?
Below I create an array of labels. I would like to add an click event to my labels. Can someone point me in a direction?

When I utilize AddHandler in VB to add my own method to the Click event :
AddHandler Button.Click, AddressOf myButton_Click
I see that my code executes last - after other event handlers for the Button_Click event. Is there a way to insert my event handler in front of other events so that it executes first?
In the following code I open several Excel workbooks from within the VS 2010 .IDE. I want to Try the open workbook code, then Catch exceptions using a dialogbox as a form created programmatically at run-time. The exception handler works, but the dialog box does not display in front of the workbook. So, the user can't respond to the modal form. If at that point the Excel workbook is shrunk manually to expose the dialogBox which is then dismissed, Excel pops up a "Save Changes?" alert and the VB code does not resume the Sub at the Me.Focus() line
When the workbook Is open Excel is the active application. I think this is why the dialog box is not in front, and I don't know how to solve the problem programmatically.[code]...
I have a Winform application where i added picturebox's to a flowlayout panel dynamically from code. I have successfully managed to add a handler for doubleclick and click events the problem i have is that when i add both together it only seems to work with the click event and not the double click. where I could bee going wrong? Iam using VS2008 .NET 3.5 my code looks a bit like this :
Public Class Class1
Dim WithEvents picturebox1 As PictureBox
Private Sub Brochure_Creator_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

After searching Google, and finding only answers to XML indent, "just use Visual Studio's auto indent" and "that would be crazy to write your own auto-indenter" I've decided to come to the good place: StackOverflow.Question:
1. How do I add an 'indent' to a programmatically created file?I would be generating the files via the System.IO class / streamwriter, unless someone can tell me of a better way, I just want to generate a file from my asp.net page, a windows app or possible a batch file (well, maybe not this last one)... to generate a class file, such as Employee.vb OR EmployeeDAL.vb

In my program it detects if there is more than one monitor connected. It then creates a form on each monitor screen and you just click on the screen that you want the program to run on.
Here's where I'm having a problem. Everything works great, but when I load my MAIN form how would I call those programmatically created forms? I can't just do frmYou.close.
Here's the code I use to create the forms.
Public myScreen As New Point
Public ScreenReady As Boolean = False
Public sX As Integer'holds screen x width
Public sY As Integer'holds screen y height

Here is my code to programitically create a textbox on the fly
Dim a1_box As New TextBox
Me.Controls.Add(a1_box)
In another method I need to read the value entered by the user, but, a1_box is not a know item.
how to connect a SQL Table to a DataGridView that was previously created programmatically. Basically, at run-time the user names and creates several empty SQL Tables and DataGridViews. After that the user selects from a combobox the name of the SQL Table and DataGridView that they want to import data into, then clicks a button named "Import"...after clicking "Import" the user navigates to an Excel file, chooses a worksheet, clicks a "Continue" button and then the code successfully connects to the Excel import file and SQLBulkCopies the data to the SQL Table...next I need the imported data in the SQL Table update to the DataGridView...this is the part I can't figure out.
The challenge is the datagridview isn't hard coded it was created and named programmatically at runtime. So now the user selects the name of the SQL Table the data resides in and the name of the DataGridView from the combobox "moduletableCB" and I need the code to update the datagridview.

Now everybody knows that creating GUIs that have lots of repeated elements that are evenly spaced by hand is for chumps; all the cool kids use loops and add them at runtime. Given that being one of the cool kids is one of my top priorities I decided to give this a go - as my current project involves creating a grid of check boxes and then chunking them together under one event handler. In my experience - an nice effective way of dealing with grid like structures (2D arrays if you will) is to use nested loops such as:
For intY = 0 To 9
For intX = 0 To 9
Dim chk As New CheckBox
