i am about develop an application and i want to do the following.
1. use vb.net 2008 for the application
2. use mysql database as the database for the application
Question:
1. is it possible to package the application by adding the mysql database so that during deployment it will be installed as well eg. vb.net 2008 and access database can be attached and deployed without installing any file to support

I have tried InstallShield 2011, but when i click on Visual Basic .net wizard, it tells me I do not have Visual Studio.NET installed on my system. Right now, I only understand that you have to define the dimension of the array, however this is shy of impossible since the dimension of the array will change due to different results from the query. Then my application uses it's own user table to control access to the application, and the one MySQL user to access the database.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on an application in VB.NET that has to connect to a MySQL database and FTP. How secure is it if I used it in an application that I gave to other people. E.g. if I was to let other people use this application would they be able to find out the MySQL and FTP connection details through intercepting packets or something like that? If that's the case how can I work round this? Also, part of my application is an uploader for users to upload files, is FTP secure for that or are there better alternatives ways in doing that? My server is a Windows Server 08 if that makes any difference.

Now it gives me there error that a connection is allready open with the Datareader (I havea timer running this sub once in a while).
I'm Using Visual Studio 2005 and Mysql Database to create a windows application. The datagrid displays all the records. Since I don't know how to directly update from datagrid, thats why I have used textboxes for the respective datagrid fields. A load button is provided which on clicking puts the data on the respective textboxes. The data can be edited in the textbox. Problem is that I can't save this edited or modified data back into dattabase.

I am configuring VS2008 on a new machine. Everything looks good except for the Prerequisites list. On my other machine, I have "SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1" listed, which is what I want to set my build to. However, on my new machine, I don't have this, and clicking the "Check Microsoft Update..." link does not present this as an option. how I might manually get this added to the list?

View 1 RepliesI created a simple VB application in Visual Studio 2010.My computer, which I am using to create the program, is Windows 7 Pro, and SQL Server 2008 is running on a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, which I have full access to.
I want to click a button and have an SSIS package execute.I looked around on the Internet and found examples, but they do not seem to work for me.I try to add a reference, Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll, as a few sites advise, but it is not listed when I go to PROJECT>ADD REFERENCE.
I also type:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime but all I get is a squiggly green line, which when hovered over states "Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'Microsoft.SqlServer .Dts.Runtime' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found." I have an issue with my code. The application interacts with a MySQL database on a remote server, I have access to this server. When my app is running the insert into code I m getting this error: "Conversion from string "INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pil" to type 'Integer' is not valid."

View 1 RepliesI am developing a chat application using online connection to a mysql databbase. But i am facing a problem. After 10 minutes, MySQL closes all the chat connections because of the 600 seconds timeout (has been set by the host service i am using). I don't understand why is that happening cause every piece of my code which needs data from the database opens and closes the connection (i mean that it dosn't maintain the connection after the query's execution). If i .close() and .dispose() the connection, it still appears in mysql at sleep mode (it terminates only if i exit the program).

I am working on a inventory application and I have a question, I have created a table for each of the main categories that I will be using, now if I wanted to add sub categories would I create another table for the sub directory and set the type as a child for its corresponding category or would it be easier to keep the main categories and just add another column in each table for "sub category" so it uses the same table but I can just filter it out easier?
If it is a better option for creating parent and child tables, how would I go about listing them in a hierarchical treeview to show parent and child sub-categories in them.
What i have going on, is i have a MySQL connector as a resource on my application, and im basically trying to connect to my MySQL server, to either a) register a new account, or b) check that the account exists and they are premium, and login, Now what i have run into problems with is: My MySQL Database Name has a _ in it which VB is not allowing for some strange reason.

At moment iam trying to fetch some data out of a mysql database.hope i can explain well what i try to do.Okay i made a form with some text field and a combobox.What i want is at start when the form loads that all the last name will get catcht out of the mysql database. all those last names should go in the combobox.now i have a few textboxes like adress phone number living place go onWhat i try to do now is when all those lastnames are in the combo box when i select a nameand press the button to update that it will catch the info from that user out of the mysql database and puts the info in the right textfields.What i got so far is a succesfull connection to the mysql database.

This walkthough does not provide the code to save local changes,I have added the line of code for the bidirectional sync and it works if you drag datasources direct onto the form from the XSD but this uses the component TableAdapterManager and the method UpdateALL which I cannot see how to implement in this Walkthough ?how I change the local Database Cache and update back to server in this walkthrough ?
