I am working on a inventory application and I have a question, I have created a table for each of the main categories that I will be using, now if I wanted to add sub categories would I create another table for the sub directory and set the type as a child for its corresponding category or would it be easier to keep the main categories and just add another column in each table for "sub category" so it uses the same table but I can just filter it out easier?
If it is a better option for creating parent and child tables, how would I go about listing them in a hierarchical treeview to show parent and child sub-categories in them.
i am about develop an application and i want to do the following.

I have followed this walkthough at http:[url]...but I am having problems working out how to save changes to the Local Database Cache so that I can use the bidirectional sync. This walkthough does not provide the code to save local changes,I have added the line of code for the bidirectional sync and it works if you drag datasources direct onto the form from the XSD but this uses the component TableAdapterManager and the method UpdateALL which I cannot see how to implement in this Walkthough ?how I change the local Database Cache and update back to server in this walkthrough ?

I want to know what's the right way to work with objects that belong to a category.I'm building an applications with the following layers:Base data access Data access Business logic + Factories Presentation.I want to pass only objects to the presentation layer and back.I have objects (Employees), that belong to a certain category (EmployeeCat). I was wondering if I should have just an EmployeeCatID property in my Employee class/object, or an EmployeeCat property that contains a complete category object. If I want to fill a GridView with a list of employee objects as datasource, and I used just an ID in my Employee objects, then I will have some work at the presentation level to display the category names, so I think. On the other hand, if the list of employees contains plain category objects... I'm not sure what will happen.
I want to have a control listing all subcategories from a database table. What control should I use. then I want to have a treeview with Categories, and be able to drag and drop sub categories onto the Categories. VS 2008
I can not use Inheritance Picker Dialog windows. Choosing Project in menu bar and then Add New Item, there is Templates frame only and Inherited Form is missing. Categories frame, which should be located on the left side, is missing as well. So i could not choose Windows Forms from Categories Frame on the left and Inherited Form from Templates on the right. Is it possible that Express Edition does not support Inheritance?
Here's the program. there are five categories say a, b, c, d, e, each in a textbox (color blue). There will be a command button say "choose". If i click the choose button, it will randomly choose one category and that corresponding textbox example "a" will change color(color yellow). Then if I want to click the choose button again, the selected category "a" from the first selection will change to gray, then a new category will be randomly chosen without "a" in the list and again will change to color yellow. and so on. So I can click the choose button five times, exhausting the five categories without repeating the category that was already selected.
I have a project that works with a database. It groups al my films per category. I use this code to group everything by category. The categories are chosen in the combobox cboCateogorie.
category Private Sub cboCategorie_SelectedIndexChanged_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cboCategorie.SelectedIndexChanged If Not cboCategorie.SelectedValue Is Nothing Then
[code]....
what I want is the opposite off what I do when I select a category in a combobox. Now I actually select a film and this film also has an ID, namely DvdID and with that I want that the combobox shows the category where the film belongs to.
I am having two databases for the same application , one in windows and the other is web based.Since web based one have few functionalities I can't opt for a single database. At the same time I want to share Both databases to be updated with other's data so as to work error free with my module of appointment fixing.
I have a slight problem. I have created an application where I am using linklabels to refer to a website, this works with no problem at all, however the problem that I do have is I cant work out the command to refer to a file or document. The code to refer to a file on my PC is simple enough and works fine:
I am trying to add to my application some icons via the code. When i run my executable from debug / release compilation folder it works good. But when I move my executable files to other folders it tells me that it doesn't find the icon files.Any idea how/where I should tell the compiler to add those files to my final executable version ,that they will be visible.[code]
i am using itextsharp and creating a PDF with images. currently the images i am using in the application are on my desktop, but i will need to make an installation file that will put the images in a specified directory on the users computer and be able to call them from the specific directory.how do i include pictures with my build?how do i reference the pictures? currently i am using:
Dim jpeg3 As Image = Image.GetInstance(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop) & "2.jpg")
Is there any way to add a C# Web Form to an ASP.NET 4.0 Web Application that is written in VB.NET? I had an ASP.NET 2.0 WEB SITE that I recently converted to an ASP.NET 4.0 WEB APPLICATION. It was mostly written in VB.NET with a couple pages that had C# code behinds.
I've read the following article (the end section about mulitple languages):
[URL]
But it does not seem to help for the following two reasons
1) When I converted my site to an application, it didn't seem to add an APP_CODE folder at all
2) I'm not looking to just write a simple class, I actually want to be able to add a WEB FORM with a C# code behind
When I try to add a new item and I select which type of item I want to add, I am only given to option to add a VISUAL BASIC web form.
I have a workaround right now. If I need a new web form with a C# code behind, I take one of my old C# web forms and just copy and paste the form and C# code behind into the project and then rename it and change the class name as well. Then i make my changes and do what I need to do. It seems to work, but I was just wondering if there was an easier way.
You might wonder why want to put C# forms in my VB app. I wrote my app in VB (not well versed in C# but I can read it). I have a programmer working for me that is much more efficient with C#. I don't really have the budget to spend weeks/months getting her up to speed with VB
I am looking for the simplest way to push a new row to a database by inserting one record and then retrieving the Primary Key generated by inserting that row.
I know there are several ways this can be done but I can't seem to get any of them to work yet.
I have made a form that has three labels and textboxs and two buttons. The labels arelblPersonID, lblFirstName and lblLastname. The textboxs are txbPersoonID, txbFirstName and txbLastName. The two buttons are btnSave and btnQuit with "End" in htis button. I have also made a database "MyFriends" with a table that has PersonId, FirstName and LastName.
I want to be able to type into my textboxs and have that information saved as a neww row.
I am looking at adding in some bluetooth functionality to my vb.net application. I require it to couple with a specified mobile phone (that is found by the app) than to be able to retrieve contact information, phone calls (made and recevied) and images from the phone.
Can anyone tell me what my best approach will be for this? If there are any good third party solutions that will do it? If it is actually doable? Im thinking that it should because im basically mimic'ing what all the new fancy cars do with their bluetooth phone compatibility.
I'm following an article (here) and stuck on the following:"Once you have created this class and compiled it, to use it in an ASP.NET Web application, start by adding it to the Web application's References folder."
Ok, so do i now need to compile my vb class file into a .dll and reference it from the BIN folder? If so how do i compile the vb file? I'm running VS 2005 .net 2.0
I am working on adding multi-threading to my application. I have done two applications using multi-threading following a tutorial of sorts, and modifying the code to "get my feet wet."
This is the first time I am trying multi-threading within my own application, and I feel I should be beyond this type of problem, but after a 3 hour search on the forums, I can not find a solution, so I am posting this thread.
I need to make an application that I'm working on seem bigger then it really is. Say it's actually 4 MB, but I want to make it 22 MB, what would be the easiest way to add size / fake the size of the app?
Anyway, if I use a web service I need the web service(server) to connect to the databasen MS Visual studio when you add a web service project the data menu disappears and you can't add a data source to the project. What I am trying to do it create a server application for all of the clients in my organization to connect to. I think the best way to do this is to use a web service.

I have a database linked to my VB.NET project using the data source wizard. I've created a log in form using a table in access that has the details required to log in.
The code is: Imports System.Data Public Class Form1
I have been trying to get the database sample to work. I have been unable to figure it out. I posted my code below, but something isn't working right and I cant figure it out. Please review my code if you have a chance and let me know what I am doing wrong.
I have a project I created for my VB class where you enter what type of ticket(combobox), how many tickets(textbox), what type of tickets(listbox) and will give you the total amount.I want to do a little more to the program and was wondering about adding the person's name, address, phone, city, state, zip and then having all the information put into a database. I wanted to also take the information entered from the program and use the printPreview control to view a report from Access(possible?).
I've only worked with viewing database information on the forms in VB but I've never entered data into the database. Is this possible? Can I have the information entered on the form be entered into a database that keeps track of all tickets purchased and customer information?I can see this working in my head but don't know if it's logistically possible.
