I'm displaying data from a database in a datagridview, but the player also needs to be able to add new rows, which isn't allowed because the datagridview is data-bound. What is the simplest workaround to this problem?
View 10 RepliesI have a project I created for my VB class where you enter what type of ticket(combobox), how many tickets(textbox), what type of tickets(listbox) and will give you the total amount.I want to do a little more to the program and was wondering about adding the person's name, address, phone, city, state, zip and then having all the information put into a database. I wanted to also take the information entered from the program and use the printPreview control to view a report from Access(possible?).
I've only worked with viewing database information on the forms in VB but I've never entered data into the database. Is this possible?Can I have the information entered on the form be entered into a database that keeps track of all tickets purchased and customer information?I can see this working in my head but don't know if it's logistically possible.
Most of the project I do, I use the datagridview to display the data from the database. What is the different between the datagridview and listview? If I want to display the data from the database, should I use the datagridview or the listview?

Im currently doing a small programme of a register system. I need to add a new group box filed with a few textboxes and a couple comboboxes for each entry in a access 2010 database. for example if i had someone called bob in my database with his details i would like the GUI of the VB app to add in a new textbox for the name, a textbox for the address ect in a set order, this needs to work for multiple entry's so the textboxes ect don't overlap but be placed neatly below the added textbox.

View 5 RepliesI have a Visual Basic 2008 Windows form application that processes some scores and data. I want to export the data to an Access database. I have created the Access database and connected it to the VB program.I am looking for a simple set of commands or sample code to add records to the database. Perhaps I am oversimplifying the problem, but it seems like it should be so much easier than it has proven to be. I only want to export the data in code; the user should never see the database or do anything to it while the program is running.

The apostrophe is used to separate data when adding records to an Access Database data table using the "INSERT INTO" SQL statement. Having apostrophes in the data really screws things up with this new software. Is there a simple workaround? Is it possible to specify a different character? Is it possible to add data without using SQL Statements? I also noticed that the new OleDbDataAdapter Add Method generates the same SQL Error because it apparently creates an "INSERT INTO" SQL Statement.gh
View 4 RepliesI am creating a hotel room booking form. In my mainform I have several controls that i can use to select/fill eg room number, date, name of visitor, number of days booking etc.I also have table adapter that binds the data source I have a save button in my form and I need to create an event so that it saves the data that I have entered in the mainform to the underlying dataset- i have to use endEdit(), DataRowView methods/properties but can't manage to write the save button event.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to connect a VB application (2010) to an MS Access DB by adding a data source from the data menu but I receive this error message "The connection you selected uses a local data file that is not in the current project.Would you like to copy the file to your project and modify the connection ?
If you copy the data file to your project, it will be copied to the project's output directory each time you run the application" and the options are (yes , No , Help)
If I choose Yes I will not be able to make the application 'device independent ' since it will not be copied under the bin , and if I choose No , changes won't be applied to the DB
I got a system which i want to insert, delete, update the data into my database and the data from database will be display using datagrid. The below is the coding for one of my button, delete.
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click
Try
btnSearchEmpNo.Enabled = False[code].....
Now I wanna set when user click on this button to delete a employee (for example) then the datagrid that i have in my application will not show the data of the deleted employee but in the background, the employee haven't been deleted from database.The employee only will be deleted from database when the user click on SAVE button.I know this application have to use RowState but how?
What I want to happen is that the button from my system will remove the previous data from database and then insert new data to database from text file. Im done with inserting new data. The thing is that I dont how to control or where to put the Delete Command from my code.

I am trying to pass a different template to a Telerik Grid, depending on if the add button or the edit button is pressed (on creation: a few field to fill. on existing: add button : some extra fields to fill, edit button : most field are read-only, new field to fill).
Dim myGrid = Html.Telerik().Grid(Of SomeModel) _
.Name("myGrid")
If Model.Action = AddNewData Then
myGrid.Editable(Sub(editing) _

I have no idea on how to do the if "gridBoutonPushed = Add" then part.
How would you add data source to your combobox from a combobox that is connected to the access atabase?they are both ın the same form of course and the software language ıs Visual Basic. I ve got two comboboxes that I need to connect with eachother combobox1 is showing the "itemsonsell" from the "table_items" table from my access database, the second one should show the "prices" value from "table_items" depending on which "itemsonsell" item is chosen on combobox1,I ve done the solution below,but it didnt seem to be working,it is showing all the "prices" that are under the "table_items" table's "prices" class.

I have a datagridview on form1 but I don't want users adding data using datagridview, instead, I wanna use details view. So I created a form2, dragged and dropped details view on form2. I changed the Addnew on BindingNavigator to None and added a code to the Addnew click event handler to call the form2 out so that I could add data from there. But, when form2 loaded. the textboxes pulled out all the information from datagridview. I did not want that, I wanted all the textboxes to appear empty when it was loaded. so I deleted all the textboxes and added my own textboxes so that they appeared empty when form2 was loaded.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Me.VendorTableAdapter.Insert(TextBox1.Text, TextBox2.Text, TextBox3.Text, TextBox4.Text)
Me.VendorTableAdapter.Fill(Me.VendorDataSet.vendor)
End Sub
I added the above code to allow users to add data into datagridview using data details view.
I am looking for the simplest way to push a new row to a database by inserting one record and then retrieving the Primary Key generated by inserting that row.
I know there are several ways this can be done but I can't seem to get any of them to work yet.
I have made a form that has three labels and textboxs and two buttons. The labels arelblPersonID, lblFirstName and lblLastname. The textboxs are txbPersoonID, txbFirstName and txbLastName. The two buttons are btnSave and btnQuit with "End" in htis button. I have also made a database "MyFriends" with a table that has PersonId, FirstName and LastName.
I want to be able to type into my textboxs and have that information saved as a neww row.
