my computer is running Windows7 ,installed .net framework 4.0.I know "system.windows.input" be supported by .net framework 3.5, but does windows7 already has that?

The problem seems to be when I go to my release folder, right mouse click on my test.exe file and click on Compatibility, then select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and then select Windows 2000 from the combobox. i get this error upon execution of text.exe:

The only issue I have is that so that this DLL can be used in a service or a program without a GUI, so I can't use "Imports System.Drawing.Imaging" as this requires a form. I have looked around for examples to handle this without using this library but have had no luck.

I'm setting up a simple XML read-write demo (VB Winforms) in Visual Studio 2010 Premium (tried in both the RC and RTM) and added:

Result: Error Namespace or type doesn't contain any public members or cannot be found...
VS 2008 equivalent example recognizes the Imports statement fine.I know this has to be me, but I'm stumped.
Note: I tried this with the app targeting both .Net 3.5 and 4.0. Same result.
This sounds like a dumb question, but I'm using VS 2010 Express edition and cannot find where to add a new Windows form. The templates provided don't indicate a Windows form . Are they called something different in this version of VS?
View 8 RepliesI recently downloaded the Windows API code pack for .net, and seeing there was VB.net examples inside there, I opened them up. Upon building I get a warning that the referenced components 'Core' and 'Shell' could not be found. Looking in the code pack folder I see there are no DLLs at all, but instead a whole load of C# sources.
Do I have to download C# Express (which I want to avoid) to use the code pack or are there precompiled DLLs somewhere?

There were several reference to compiling the program using x86.
Go to Project menu -> Properties -> Compile tab -> Select "Advanced Compile Options" -> Select "x86" instead of "AnyCPU"
I followed the path and there was not any option to select x86 in VB 2010 Express.
I've just installed Visual Studio 2010 Express on a new laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
When I debug a VB project and an error is encountered a message is sent to the immediate window, but execution is not halted. This means I am unable to look at variables etc.
I tried numerous times to install visual web developer express 2010 on my new Dell with Windows 7 32 bit but it simply fails to install the VC 9.0 runtime file.

I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

I am looking to create a menu system in vb 2010 windows app. See attached file to give you an idea of what I want to achieve. I could do it by creating 4 buttons and have 4 panels. when button one is pressed make panel one visible and hide other 3 panels, etc This just seems messy. Will any of the built in VB menu components do this?

Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I have a routine [SPDataRecd(...)] that handles SerialPort1.DataReceived from a serial port (modem). When it is activated by a modem event, I want it to start the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Start()], but it doesn't work.If the timer is running, SPDataRecd can *stop* the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Stop()], but it can't start a stopped timer.
View 6 Repliesone of the apps that I wrote a couple months ago is getting to be rolled out to my production floor; one issue tho - It works great as a standard executable (you double-click, it starts and waits for data), however, I cannot get it to start as a system service.
I've already done a little bit of research for how to create a system service, but most of the information that I've come across is point to VC# or Visual Studio 2010 - I'm not finding much for VB 2010. Additionally, I'm only using VB 2010 Express and I'm pretty sure that I don't have the Windows Service application template's on my PC.
My application does have a "UI", but there isn't any user interaction; it starts and just sits minimized in the system tray polling a directory for the existence of a file - i.e. the windows form is not required.

View 2 RepliesI've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?
