We created a vb.net desktop application in Microsoft visual studio 2005, in deployment phase we found that the application are vary slow in startup (Splash screen), we try many solution (ngen, remove unused name space, code, references) to speed the load but we could not solve it.

The application dont work as desired, instead it starts with Form2 (which is OK), while in case of Splash it doesnt changes the splash form.
I have my start up form in maximized window state, but this cause the splash screen appear behind the startup form, which cause it cannot be seen.Even i have set the time longer to display the splash screen.It still do now work. I have tried below code in the start up form but it is not working...

RUNNING VERSION 2008 Basic I've decieded to put a Splash Screen on my software. My main question is how do you make it so the Splash Screen shows for about five seconds and then startup Form1.
Also, on the splash screen it auto-fills the info. Does anybody know how to get rid of that and make it custom?
For some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.
View 7 RepliesI have an MDI parent screen that loads on startup and a lot of child forms that load when opening. So as the child forms load there's a lot of flashing and it looks really ugly. Once they're loaded all I have to do is use a bring to front, maximized command and it works smoother than closing a form and opening a new one every time a different form is selected. I've tried creating a splash screen, minimizing the forms on load, etc and everything still works in order so first the splash screen then the forms load.
How would you set it up so a splash screen stays on top of all other forms for like 5 seconds while the forms load in the background without seeing them load? Right now the screen shows then when it's done it moves on to step 2 which is loading the child forms. If no splash screen, how do I make it load so you don't see all the child forms opening at once?
I'm trying to use a splash screen to check the logged on users rights and if all meets criteria it loads the default form. Currently in my load event of the spash form i had some code along the lines

I have my main form which will have the option to hide itself and open up a mini version. I would like this mini version to start at the top-right of the users screen.I have went through other posts and understand that you can set distance from top-left.
View 9 RepliesI can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.
But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.
what's the simplest way to ensure the installation of my app is installed in the startup folder/quick launch for all users , even if my app is not installed from the owner directory?

I have a code which when used, firstly application will run the Splash Screen application. Splash Screen will be active for several second, and then the main of application will show in full screen. Before the user use the application, user must Log in first. This works but the problem is that it loads the splash and login form twice. To worsen the situation, the second login form that appears gives access to the system even when the cancel button is clicked while the first login form just works fine. I have a code in vb.net 2010 which when executed,should load the splash screen for a few seconds,then load the main form,but this main form will only be active after a user logs in with the correct password.I have implemented the code but its giving me an error of two splash screens and two login forms.The 1st splash appears which gives way to the login form.When i enter the correct password and click OK,it again displays another splash screen which again gives way to a second login form.The second login form even has a bigger problem.It logs me into the system even when i click the cancel button.

While my program loading, I have a splash screen. After the program is done loading my Splash-screen closes and the main form (form1) shows (all good up to that point). But the problem is after the Splash-screen I cannot close form 1, nor can I move it. here is what have.

I'm writing a small app which I want to display a splash screen. The problem is my form 1 is appearing before the splash screen disappears. In fact is appears on startup blocking the splash screen. I have some code in form_load and have managed to figure out which line is causing the error, but I cant figure out why or how to prevent it.
The line reads
LoadSettings()
If I comment out this line everything runs fine and there's nothing in that sub that should affect form1. I'm doing this in vb express 2010.

None of these makes any difference. If issue a Close() on form1, the entire program closes and not just form1. Is there a property I need to tweak or set on either of the forms to stop/fix this?
What I am trying to do is show a splash screen then the next form. I have given them the option to "skip" the splash screen if they don't want to see it any longer and this is where I am having the problem.

The Splash Form opens and closes fine, but no controls (a text box and a graphic, on a panel) appear on the form. I knew I was probably missing something (this was far easier than anything I found searching), but at least the form opens and closes. The app actually starts with a SubMain, which is only used to control how it opens with it's registered file type.

I am using vb.net 2008 i have been using a mdi form which is the startup form for my prog. and i have a main menu on that form. now i would like to shift to tree view as my client has asked for it. whenever a node is selected i can select the form corresponding for that particular code. everything is fine till here. but when the form is loaded the tree view is coming on top of the form the tree view is docked in a pannel. now i have tried everything treemenu.sendtoback and the say the form to b called is taxtypemaster then taxtypemaster.bringtofront but still the tree view is coming over the form

Hello.. I'm using a splash screen for the first time in an exercise. I have it set up to display the splash screen before going to the main form. I made changes to the splash screen title and copyright information. When I execute the program, the splash screen comes up but it's not displaying the information I changed. When I view the splash screen the changes are saved. It displays the project name where the application name should be.
View 18 RepliesIs there a way to load the data for my form during the splash screen and simply show the form when the user clicks on the button? I'm using a thread which fills my DataAdapter using Form.DataAdapter.Fill(Form.Dataset.Table), but when I open the form the data isn't shown (I removed the line from my form_load event to prevent a double load). Is there anyway to tell the form that the DataAdapter has been filled already and to look at the information there instead of loading the data everytime the form loads?
My problem is that the form takes a while to load due to the amount of data it is looking for. If I could already have the data ready and then display the form when the user clicks a button it'd be perfect. I apologize if I'm missing something, this is my first time diving into VB.Net with VS2010 after using Access VBA for awhile.

I would like to display my splash screen for a set amount of time (5 seconds). While the splash screen is displayed, I added code to the load function to determine which form to load next. I have the splash screen selected in the Application Properties settings. I also have to select a "Startup form:" in the Application Properties settings.

i have created a splash screen by removing form border and importing an image to the picture box. also i have set a timer for 7 sec after which the splash screen will close itself and will open the MDI form. But after seven second altough the splash screen closes but it also closes the MDI form too. I am not able to figure out the problem.
