Mar 30, 2010How can I get the position of a certain cell of a datagridview. To be specific I don't want the mouse coordinates. Suppose I have a datagridview with Name (ReadOnly), ID and TransDate columns and I want to popup a tiny lookup form when the mouse is clicked or Enter button is pressed when the focus is upon the Name column. The lookup form should openup exactly upon the Name column of the selected row.

Jan 3, 2011in my form, I have a DataGridView and TreeView apart from other controls. Now, the data shown in the DataGridView is also displayed in the TreeView. What I need doing is that when a node in the TreeView is selected, the corresponding row in the DataGridView needs getting selected for further action.I used some logic to determine the DataGridView row. But, I am unable to select the row. When I use the DataGridView.Row(index).Selected function, the row is selected, however, the row index does not change.

Apr 1, 2010I was wondering if there is a way to keep the same scroll position in a datagrid view as the app jumps around to various rows (driven by the user selecting different timestamps or address). After the jump happens, the horizontal slider moves all the way to the right, but I want it at the same position as before the jump (or at lease go all the way to the left).
I have tried numerous things (datatable.AcceptChanges(), etc) but haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Scroll Bar Dafault Position On A Datagridview?
Jul 19, 2009I am now using a datagridview that uses just 1 col and 1 row, but is set such that it has a large display width to display a lot of graphics.
The horizontal scroll bar is active to help me view all the data, but the scroll bar defaults to the LHS.
How can I make it default to the RHS?Additionally, when I move the scroll bar, the displayed data seems to get corrupted - do I have to re-paint the graphics every time the scroll bar position is changed?

The problem I am experiencing is as follows:
in the source below, when the code runs "MeanRow" is populated with what is required. As soon as Rows.Remove() executes, the MeanRow datarow is lost. Why would this be if I'm declaring a new variable and simply setting it?

It displays only first and last names of my customers in a datagridview.What i want to do now is, when i double-click on one of the customers another form will open and display details for this customer (detailed view - textboxes).
What i have accomplished so far is that when i double-click on a customer in datagridview a form opens with details (linked to the same binding source as datagridview). But the problem is that it always opens the first record even if i dobule-click second or third in datagridview.I don't know how to bind these textboxes with current datagridview position?
Unbound Data Column In A Datagridview Moves Position?
Mar 10, 2010I have a form and in that form is a datagridview listing information from a table in a database. The datagrid is setup as read only and the user is unable to move the columns around. The purpose of the datagrid is to allow the user to select entire records and press a menu button that does some action on them. To make it easier to use the very first column in an unbound data column that I fill with a number representing the row count so 1,2,3,4.... this makes it easier for the user to count how many rows he has selected.
The problem is that the unbound column moves to the last column in the datagrid at random times.This only happens in development not after the application has been deployed. Its annoying because lets say I go in to add a label or change a menu item on the form that has nothing to do with the datagrid I have to make sure that the unbound column hasn't moved.Has anyone else had this problem mixing bound and unbound columns in a datagridview.
Saving Window Size And Position Multiple Monitors Toolbar Position Etc.
Aug 24, 2009I have looking for a tutorial or class that demonstrates more than a trivial example of saving a windows position on closing. The ones I have found don't seem to work on all systems because of:
1. Multiple monitors. (and resolution between those monitors)
2. Toolbar size and position (toolbar is only on the primary monitor, well sometimes)
3. Sometimes the programs dont open on the right monitor they were closed on.
Is there an extensive class or tutorial on all the stuff a programmer needs to get right to have a window size and position persisted between executions?

I want to check for duplicate values before attempting to insert the record, since I don't want the user to go all the way through the form only to find out they can't submit it. So I'm trying to check for duplicate values when the user tries to go to the next page of the form. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, and sure enough I'm getting an error. ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") The problem is apparently in my if statement, "If myValue.Length > 0 Then", but I'm not sure what needs to be in place of that.

The intention is that an event handler is set for any control added to the form, but only if it's a certain kind of control — determined by what its most-derived type is. Putting overarching design concerns aside for the time being, although this subroutine functions properly, when running the debugger the constant exceptions keep leaving messages in my "Immediate Window". It's annoying, and presumably throwing exceptions only to immediately re-catch them is wasteful.

Jan 18, 2011A form has a multi line textbox that is read line by line searching for "MSH". When found it adds that line as a parent to the treeview. each following line is added as a child. Works fine if only one "MSH" line but if more than 1 I get must clone or remove message. I did clone the message but I don't want a duplicate of what is there. I have tried several variations and have not been able to get the 2nd MSH to be added as a child but not parent.I have started to repeate code so was hoping some of you experts can point me in the correct direction. VS 2008 Odd Behaviour When Attempting To Activate A Form?
May 12, 2009I have a program where the main form is called (shown/activated) via a keystroke combination. When the form pops-up, I've set the focus to a textbox to begin typing right away.
When the keystroke event occurs, I have:Me.Activate()And in the Form_Activated event:
Textbox1.Focus() Simple right? It works the way I want it to, even after I've compiled and run the EXE, but ONLY if Visual Studio 2008 is running. Once I close my project in VS, with the program still running outside VS, the form is shown, but input focus is not set to the textbox.
Input focus is however still set to whatever it was previously, like a word document for example. My form will be topmost, but if I attempt to input text, it would still be entered into the word doc. why having my projects' source open in VS has anything to do with running the compiled EXE of said program?
I've even tried API calls to SetForegroundWindow and ShowWindow with the same result.

My problem is each form needs the same serial port open to work and the port won't open unless it's closed in the previous form. Using a module works for opening and closing the port, but only for one round. If I try to revisit a form I already accessed it doesn't work.

Attempting To Create Shopping Cart Remove Button?
Mar 20, 2012Note: This code actually codes from a tutorial book I'm reading at the moment, so you can imagine this is frustrating me greatly! I'm building a basic shopping cart, using VB.NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 and MS SQL Server R2 2008. The code below is supposed to remove items from the cart, by reading a session variable, editing it to remove the appropriate ProductID and return the amending string to the session variable. It is then supposed to rebind the data to the gridview (gvCart) to refresh the data...but it seems here there is an error.

Process.Start Fails When Attempting To Redirect The Output
Nov 17, 2009I've been working on automating our build processes and wanted to come up with a painless way to run unit tests on a regular basis. To that end I've thrown together a simple app that examines the project files and prepares a list of solutions to test. The prototype works in that the tests are executed with the expected results, but as soon as I try to redirect my output the app bombs on the Process.Start call, complaining that a file could not be found.
I've tried several iterations on what I've seen done elsewhere, including several posts here, but I have yet to get this to work properly.

VS 2010 Attempting To Make Basic Client/Server?
Jan 6, 2011Im trying to make a basic Client/Server. The server can handle multiple clients and each client can send /recieve messages from the server.It works fine with just 1 client. but as soon as i connect with a second client. The first one no longer works. Anything sent from the first client is ignored by the server and when running the server in debug mode it gets errors from the client 1 stream.
Its as if the server will only hold one stream at a time and whenever another client joins the other streams are shut but the new client works fine. Even though i never close a stream.

Edit: FINALLY FOUND IT! Stupid mistake i forgot to put the ClientN variable up by one for each new client.So i was creating a new space in the array but erasing the first slot for the new client
