Auto Resize TabControl Or Any Object?

Apr 17, 2011

This time I wanna know how I can make that the TabControl Auto Resizes: Before I Press the "View-> Show Buttons" button in the Menubar. After I Press the "View-> Show buttons" button in the Menubar. What I mean is that i wanna after I hide the buttons the tabcontrol should fit with the Form, as shown in the above image.

Here is some code I wrote:
ShowButtonMenu.Checked = not ShowButtonMenu.Checked = True
If ShowButtonMenu.Checked = True Then
button1.visible = true
button2.visible = true
else
button1.visible = false
button2.visible = false
end if

Auto-resize Columns Based On Char Count

May 11, 2009

I am trying to figure the best way to programmatically re-size table column headers in ReportViewer.Basically, my current resolution is the following: ColumnWidth = Header Caption_CharacterCount * 0.32...Where 0.32 is an estimated width of a typical character using my current font size.The issue is that the width leaves a lot of whitespace for longer captions.The more characters a caption has, the more whitespace I end up with.The issue with estimating this way is that not all characters are the same width. A good example would the the "I" character, which takes up less screen width than the rest of the alphabet.[code]

After using a form as a replacement for MessageBox I do have a need to make it automatically adjust its size to fit its contents, is there any rule out there that we need to abide to when it comes to sizing the form acting as MessageBox?

I am thinking I could use a panel that will auto-resize and just resize the form according to the size of the panel but I am not sure that will work as I haven't tried it yet.

Resize Parent Control From Child's Resize Event?

Jan 10, 2012

I'm starting work updating an UI for one of my company's applications and I'm running into a sticky issue. The parent control contains several panels, each of which can be turned on or off depending on user input.

The final panel in the user control contains another user control which gets resizes according to a toggle switch. Essentially, it "opens" up more information.

While the child control (ChildControl) is docked to Fill inside the parent control (ParentControl), when I add height to ChildControl I can't get ParentControl's height to get updated as well. Currently I'm handling the ChildControl.Layout event in ParentControl but I can't seem to reach that code. To resize ChildControl, I'm calling Me.Height += 200 in ChildControl.vb.

Flattening An Object Hierarchy Using A Shim Class - Initializing Derived Object Properties From The Base Object?

Jul 10, 2010

I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:

newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class

flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class

Code example:

Public Class derivedObj
Inherits baseObj
Private _newProperty1 As String[code].......

Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? The following code uses reflection to iterate over the properties individually, but I suspect there may be a better way.

Code example:

' property names are in the string array fieldNames

'baseObjQuery is an ienumerable of baseObj

'derivedObjList is a list of derivedObj[code].....

Is there a simple way to initialize values for the properties in the derived object based upon the values of the common properties in the base object?

BindingNavigator In TabControl?

Apr 16, 2009

I have a tab control with several pages. Within a page I have a panel. When I drag and drop a database to the panel the datagrid view is placed on the panel, but the bindingnavigator is placed outside the tabcontrol. Running the application shows only the bindingnavigator, which seems to have blocked the tabcontrol. If I cut and paste the bindingnavigator to the panel, and running the application shows the page with the bindingnavigator at the top and the datagrid below. However, the bindingnavigator no longer allows me to add and save entries to the database. I made sure all the properties were the same before and after i cut and pasted the binding navigator.As a test, I removed the tabcontrol, dragged and dropped the database to the empty form, and everything worked.
