For example, in a sub, I want a Form to pop up, and ask a user a question, and give them 3 options. I want to make it so the user must click an option, and then the sub that called it can carry on it's way.

I'm trying to write vb code to verify a password input by a user to known table passwords in access database. The form has a drop down combo box that has userID's that are selectable. I'm trying to get the index number out of the combo box selection and use that to look up what the password should be. With that information i can then compare the stored password with the password typed into the text box below the combo box. All of the examples i've found that direct me show the code in regular Visual Basic. I'm using Visual Basic 2010 with the .net architecture.
View 3 RepliesI'm developing a windows forms application using VB.NET. I'm currently working on DataReport (by Microsoft, not Crystal). Everything works fine when using DataSet as DataSource. But I have a question on how am I going to put data to my DataReport from a user input? Preferably when the user is on the act of printing(clicking the print button in the ReportViewer), a Form will pop-up and ask him for input. That input I'm talking about is random names of people, and we don't have to track their names so there's no reason to put it on the database.
Here's my simple setup:
MainForm.vb (Form)
MyReportViewer (ReportViewer)
MyReport.rdlc (DataReport)

If it is impossible to do it on the act of printing. Maybe on the MainForm_Load event or before the generation of report can do.
How do I code in vb.net that the text box can only accept 10 inputs from the user. User can only enter 10 strings.

i am working on my collage project in which i have an "sensor" which detects weights.specifications : (COM1,2400,N,8)I have added two components Timer and Serialport and set the values timer duration =1000 and added a button and textbox.when user clicks on the button timer1 gets started.and in timer1 i added th code which reads the input from serial.now the problem with the code. the input which i eceive is in ASCII formats(actually some of chars are in ascii format).This is the output i m getting :- 029990so i created a string variable which stores this value.
actually i want only number from that string
ex : 029990 ===> 029990
but i m unable to retrieve that.

If the user doesn't input anything or if user inputs "no" or "None" I want the literal and the user input to not add to my string. Make any sense? See my code below:

I cannot figure out how to incorporate the number of days into the input box then get it to loop and count the number of times the User inputs in the number of days. Then I have to incorporate it into the equation to get the total distance D = MPH * Hours. What I have right now wil not count up the number of days and locks up after I input one number and will not add anything to the listbox. Because I also have to make sure that they cant add nonnumaric values and the number of hours per day cannot exceed 20. I have put things in and taken them out but it has been 2 days and I am lost now
I was trying to find examples of how one would make a webpage using asp so that I could have the visitor enter information on a form and then when they hit submit it will be attached to my webpage indefintaly and any visitor can view it.

I want to program the combo box so that if a user opens it and clicks on "Web Browser", that form with the combo box will close and the web browser that I made will open. Another example is that if a user selects "Media Player" from that combo box, the form with the combo box will close and the media player that I made will open. If we say blue is the default colour of the Backcolor property I understand it as if you don't specify a colour for Backcolor blue will be its colour. But I could not make sense of default property of a class in the context of building a custom user control. After calling an instance of a class we have to either call one of its members or assign an other object for it. Therefore why should there be a default property?
View 9 RepliesI'm currently attempting to use a .NET WebBrowser to display help information (stored locally in html files) for an application I'm writing, however I'm experiencing two problems, both related to hyperlinks.
Firstly, I have a search function which returns the correct URL in the format file:\C:... I can copy and paste it into a browser, and it will navigate there. Yet clicking on the link within the control itself does nothing at all.
Secondly, the HTML files all contain relative paths to other HTML files. These of course do not work as I just end up with file:\C:help.html which gives me a 'webpage is unavailable.' But I can't think of a way to get it to work without parsing the HTML file and concatenating the path to the directory on to the front of the link.
Just to clarify, in the first problem I am dynamically building a search result page as the user types. The HTML contains several results similar to this (yes, it's unfinished, I'm just showing you the link part): [code] Now, when I click on that link in the control nothing happens, it doesn't give me a 'webpage is unavailable' or take me to the actual page. Saving the HTML, however, and opening it with Chrome, IE and Firefox works fine.In the second problem, I have a different help file for different sections, each containing relative links to several others. VB picks these up as direct paths, and attempts to go there from root, i.e file:\C:file.html. The only solution I can think of is to parse the file and use WebBrowser.Navigate(Path.Combine(pathToDirectory, nameOfHelpFile.html), which seems a lot more inefficient than it should be.

Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to have a text box autofill with that manager's windows username (since they will need to be logged into their own profile to use the form).
View 2 RepliesI need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.

When i publish my program i choose to let the application check for updates via a website and if their is one update automatically when the program starts. Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.
