Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.
With a 1-many relation. Ok, I have constructed the schema, and now I want to make the appropriate forms in which a user would scroll for a customer and then by pressing a button, a new form would appear showing all the orders that he has made.
I am interested in the way of building two forms that would have a one to many relation. That is basically what I would like to know. Also, Do you have any good book to suggest in order to create a real world app, in VB2008, Emphasizing in data-binding and connecting controls with underlying DB, one to many forms, searching etc.
I wish to build and display a simple diagram that is built from data entered by the user. Because I can't post a picture of the types of diagrams here I'll use the following example. Image a picture of a house as a child might draw it a large square, with a triangle for a roof, a rectangle for a door, and two smaller squares for windows. Now I want to build an application that lets the user enter data and change that drawing according. For example, by entering the length and height of the house the size changes, change the number of windows, size of the door or height of the roof.
Now this may seem like a useless application but keep in mind the house is just an example the real purpose is different but should be as simply drawn. I'm looking for suggestions on make this work. Should I use a paint? or is something like this better done with a tie into the Visio references?
Currently we are using a VB script macro created in word to create some fairly simple forms based off of data entered on a data entry form. I am very new to VB, and I have been able to create many applications using forms, but I have absolutely no history creating reports. I have been reading up on the reports, and it looks like they are designed to use with data sources like tables. I merely want to take either data from the entry form, or from data derived internaly from processing the user entered data and populate a defined report "form". I have been searching, but there is so much on printing reports, that I feel overwhelmed. I am not looking for the exact answer as much as a link or place to look for a sample for what I want to do.

I was using 2 forms, the first one has general data capture and the second one is a calendar form. On Form1 I have mulitple windows controls. A Textb ox and beside a Calendar button. When I click on a Calendar Command button, it should open calendar form and once the user selects the date, the date should be placed in the text box on the form1. Identical to this on Form1 I need multiple textboxes that needs date to be captured.I cannot use a global variable for this as I need to validate mulitple text boxes. To explain this, I have a Transaction Date and Date Received. I need to validate whether Transaction date is prior Date Received or not? I dont want to use several global variables b'coz I might need multiple validations as above. Please help me on this.
I am creating an application in vb.net in which many users can add, update, and modify data stored in sql, but one user at a time. Users have to login to the application and then they can start their work. I want to know how I can monitor their work after they log out, like which user updated the record and at which time.
I am developing an application that takes user input into text boxes or list boxes or check boxes. I have 4 forms with questions of different categories. I want to form a paragraph string with some literal string text and add in the text from text boxes, selected item from list boxes and, either, add literal text string or add nothing to the string based on check box condition.dim strScopeParagraph as string
If we say blue is the default colour of the Backcolor property I understand it as if you don't specify a colour for Backcolor blue will be its colour. But I could not make sense of default property of a class in the context of building a custom user control. After calling an instance of a class we have to either call one of its members or assign an other object for it. Therefore why should there be a default property?
I'm currently attempting to use a .NET WebBrowser to display help information (stored locally in html files) for an application I'm writing, however I'm experiencing two problems, both related to hyperlinks.
Firstly, I have a search function which returns the correct URL in the format file:\C:... I can copy and paste it into a browser, and it will navigate there. Yet clicking on the link within the control itself does nothing at all.
Secondly, the HTML files all contain relative paths to other HTML files. These of course do not work as I just end up with file:\C:help.html which gives me a 'webpage is unavailable.' But I can't think of a way to get it to work without parsing the HTML file and concatenating the path to the directory on to the front of the link.
Just to clarify, in the first problem I am dynamically building a search result page as the user types. The HTML contains several results similar to this (yes, it's unfinished, I'm just showing you the link part): [code] Now, when I click on that link in the control nothing happens, it doesn't give me a 'webpage is unavailable' or take me to the actual page. Saving the HTML, however, and opening it with Chrome, IE and Firefox works fine.In the second problem, I have a different help file for different sections, each containing relative links to several others. VB picks these up as direct paths, and attempts to go there from root, i.e file:\C:file.html. The only solution I can think of is to parse the file and use WebBrowser.Navigate(Path.Combine(pathToDirectory, nameOfHelpFile.html), which seems a lot more inefficient than it should be.
I have a project in which i have a form in which there is add button to add pages. In form load the last entered page populates all the fields. Now thing is if user edits the values in controls it has to update the db with those fields and if the page doesn't exist in db it has to insert.
Here is my code Private Sub inserting() Dim cn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection 'Dim selectquery As String cn.ConnectionString = "" Dim cmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand [Code] .....
I initialized a global variable x and set its value to 0 in page load and in add button click to 1. Depending on x value it either inserts or updates the db in form closing and add button click. Now whats happening is If the user clicks on add button the page increments but if user doen;t enter any values and tries to close the empty form, value of x =1 and it tries to insert but as there are blank fields cmd.executenonquery throws an error.
"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."
What should I do so that it doesn't give an error. I am using access db.I even checked in db Except for primary key(pageno) all other fields have "allow zero length" as YES & "required" to NO.
Form2 Objects Form2 = frmUpdate Button = btnSubmit 15 textBoxes = you can see its name in the code below and all of them are data binded
MainAppForm Code Pass the selectedrow data to form2 (frmUpdate)
Private Sub btnUpdateDouble_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click If DGVMain.SelectedRows.Count = 1 Then
Catch ex As Exception System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(ex.Message) End Try ElseIf DGVMain.SelectedRows.Count = 0 Then MsgBox("Please select one item to update!", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Update") Else MsgBox("Updating multiple Items is not allowed!", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Update") End If
End Sub
Form2 Code I want to update the data by this code, but it refresh only the data in Form1
Private Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click
Me.Validate() Me.SparePartsBindingSource.EndEdit() Me.SparePartsTableAdapter.Update(Me.InventoryDBDataSet.SpareParts) 'Refresh MainAppForm.SparePartsTableAdapter.Fill(MainAppForm.InventoryDBDataSet.SpareParts) End Sub
No problem in updating the data if I put the code below in Form2 load event
I am converting some VB6 code which passed an unknown form object to a class, which then used the passed form object to reference the calling form and direct the data from the class as follows: The Called Class in the class clsGetRecord Public Function Execute(ByRef FRMForm as form) as booleanFRMForm.List1.Additem(SomeData)....Execute = SomeBool End Function The clsGetRecord is used by many different forms which receive data all have objects called List1 as: The Calling Form for the form frmThisFormPrivate function() as booleanDim objRecord as new clsGetRecordbRet = objRecord.Execute(frmThisForm) The passed form object which will receive dataEnd function. Is there any simple way to do this since the calling form object is unknown at design time?
I have form in which I can change the name of stations in my database (SQL Server: in table Stations). To choose which station I want to edit I've used a combobox. What I want to happen now is that when I update a station, my ComboBox with stations immediatly gets updated with the edited station.
I am making a booking system. I am using same form for insertion and updation. How can I update by taking the values from the textboxes. For example if the user enters value for just 2 out of 8 fields then How can i update just 2 fields without affecting the rest of the record. I mean to say that if I use a single update query using all the fields then if some textbox is left empty then it will replace the database field value by null or something else.
i have a basic form in vb using .net framework 3.5,when the save button is clicked, it should update the data from the form to the access 2007 database, however, the whole thing runs up to the point in bold,
here it says that "The ConnectionString property has not been initialized" Private Sub Holiday_BookingBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Holiday_BookingBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click
simple question. How do I erase all the rows in the DataGridView? This is the code I got:
[Code]...
It updates the values, but say a row was deleted from the database. It will get rid of all the values in the row, but it will keep a blank row. This results in it throwing this error: System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index 1 does not have a value.
I have written some functions that I have in a module. In one of the functions I would like to update a table that is in a dataset. I would like to do this with this function and not from a form class where the table could be bound. I need to call the function from various places in the application.
