I converted it like this but now i dont know how to declare the DWORD since WORD is already a UInt32
I am trying to declare a array within a structure, and it is not working. [code] So I want each league to have a single name and id and 20 players.Is there a way other than writing out dim player1, player2 etc.
View 3 RepliesCan anyone tell me how I would declare an array for data that will come from textboxes? Every example I find seems to be data that comes from an input box, and the array name would just be strInputbox, for example. However, in my case the user will input data into several textboxes (each named txtBox1, txtBox2, txtBox3, etc.) and I'm not sure how to write this.
Thank you.
I am upgrading a project from VB6 to VB.NET. Unfortunately, I cannot include the DLL or even the name of the DLL that I am using here, I am under a confidentiality agreement. However, I hope I can post enough info here to get this frustrating problem solved.
In VB.net: Code:
So, if I run it as such, it errors out while calling SetParameters saying
The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))
If I comment out the line m_Parameters.SProperties = New S_Properties(9) {...}, then it does not error out, however the function returns 0, which means it did not actually set the parameters to the device. Trying to ReDim SParameters(9) will also give the hresult error. Doing it with my example above, I put a watch on m_Parameters in both VB6 and VB.net and they look IDENTICAL. All data is the same. Why would I get this ArgumentException in VB.NET and not in VB6 when I am passing in the exact same arguments as in VB6?
How do I declare a fixed length variable array?[code]...
View 1 RepliesI am trying to strip the first 75 characters from various strings (sentences / phrases) and it seems right but I need to ensure that the no words are truncated in the process. Meaning that if the 75 character is part of a word it needs to fall back to the beginning of the word or nearest space..
I thought of stripping the entire string into separate words and then counting the length of combining the words and stopping when I reach the target but what do I do in the case when it is not a valid sentence just a bunch of characters jammed together or spaces and one character. I thought of using grammar parsing tool libraries and parsing into tokens etc but that seems too over complicated.
Here is what I have so far:
If htext.Length() > 75 Then
Dim regex2 As Regex = New Regex("^.{0,75}", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase)
Dim m2 As Match = regex2.Match(htext)

Just got an overflow issued and found that it was about the datatype. I fixed it and test it around
Change the datatype of Int32 to
1. UInt32 - 32bit
2. Double - 64bit
It works fine in my side. UInt32 Length should be long enough for me. I am thinking to use UInt32 as it "saves" more disk space (or probably runs a bit faster). However, what is the drawback if I always use Double ?
I inquired on VB's erratic behavior of treating all numerics as signed types back in this question, and from the accepted answer there, was able to get by. Per that answer:

I'm looking for some code to convert a UINT32 to a 4 character string (least significant byte last). The 4 bytes in the UINT32 are AscII coded.
Example: &h2e4e6574 -> ".Net"
I already made a working example using GCHandle and Marshal'ing to copy the bytes from the UINT32 to a byte array, but the code isn't all that pretty and the resulting byte array will need to be reversed before it's AscII encoded to string.
I need an equivalent to dword_ptr.A dword_ptr is 32 bits long when it's compiled on a 32 bit system and 64 bits long when compiled on a 64 bit system (more on this later). Odldy enough, a dword_ptr is not a pointer rather its data. I could use the vb "object" data type except that's supposed to be a slow method.I also don't know enough about the dword_ptr to know if it is strictly set at compile time or if it is estalished at runtime.The definition from ms for a Dword_Ptr is:"Unsigned long type for pointer precision. Use when casting a pointer to a long type to perform pointer arithmetic. (Also commonly used for general 32-bit parameters that have been extended to 64 bits in 64-bit Windows. )
View 2 RepliesMy goal is to read a data streaming from a machine the streaming is divided in tre main parts,the first is a 10 byte array that declare the length of the second and third part.The second one, the header, is a 22 DWORD (*32bit) ( 88 byte ) structured of mixed data types.I can easly read the value inside this header when the DWORD contains just one information using something like: [code] My problem starts because some of these DWORD contains several indipendent informations, for example DWORD #4 [ channel 2 peaks 31..16] [channel 1 peaks 15..0].For what I understood the first 16 bits ( so 2 bytes) are used to store the information of the first channel , while the second 16 bits are used for the second channel, I tryed converting the first 2 byte with System.BitConverter.ToUInt16()but without success.Can someone explain me what to do and how these numbers are supposed to be stored?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to implement code that can determine the value of a registry key dword value and put a check mark in the checkbox depending on if the key exist, does not exist, or equals ffffffff in hex (4294967295 in Decimal).[code]

Which number cast is a registry Dword in vb based on its minimum and max values? I am trying to build an editor that can read and edit registry dumps.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to change the DWORD value in a specific registry path. It starts with the user who is entering the value in decimal into a text box. Then with the click of a button, the application takes that value and change the existing value of the DWORD to the new one typed into the text box. I think I have manage to get it to work with "strings" but I seem to get stuck when it comes to the DWORD key. I have a feeling it have something to do with the hexadecimal value which is set by default. Do I need to create a converter?
View 1 RepliesI've been trying to convert this .reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings]
"ProxyEnable"=dword:00000001
"ProxyServer"="socks=localhost:8080"
[Code]....
But so far, all the values have been getting muddled up (They are put in the wrong place or with others) and some values aren't added. I think it's because all the values are of different types, but I'm not sure how to fix it and specify what type of value they are.
Module Module1
Public Structure structure1
Public TRANS() As structure2

Public X() As Integer

I'm new to VB 2008 after having spent a long time with VB6, so I apologize if this is a stupid question. But I'd really like to have this straightened out.
Let's say I have a pretty large structure that has lots of properties.
Code:
Now say that I want an internal database with about 10 instances of this structure total, describing, say, 10 different products that a store sells. When these values are loaded from a database, they remain totally static. (However, they can be different each time a program loads)
Now say that I have a class. Each instance of this class is a type of that BaseProduct structure. Meaning, each instance of the class pertains to one of the 10 types of products that the store sells. However, this class has additional properties that pertain specifically to each instance, which are not static.
Code:
Now, the problem here is... If I have 200 different transactions, each one contains an instance of BaseProduct. BaseProduct is HUGE, and is largely redundant (only 10 types possible), so I think it's a little silly to include a whole copy of it with EVERY transaction. However, the Transaction class really needs information regarding the base product it pertains to. Is there a way to, instead of declaring a New BaseProduct in the Transaction class, to simply make one of the properties of the Transaction class a pointer to a BaseProduct variable?
In VB6, I would accomplish this by making a BaseProduct(10) array, and then giving each Transaction an ID number referring to an entry in that array. But in VB 2008, using class structure, this is impossible. I can't define the BaseProduct(10) array outside of a class in a namespace, and if I define it in the actual application's form, then the class loses modularity since it relies on the application that's using it.
I am trying to communicate with an external device and i am trying to send a byte array to the external device via sockets but i am always getting a response the message size is too small so i am not sure what i have done wrong. Between the data type there should be no alignment present and all numbers are represented in little endian format. The char array is not null terminated as mentioned in the protocol specifications.
I have to send data based on a struct that embeds 2 other struct. So here's my vb.net code for the struct used to convert to byte array and the sending part.
Public Structure MESSAGETYPE_OIP_Login
Dim Header() As COMMANDHEADER
Dim UserName() As PSTRING

I'm experiencing a problem with the following c-structure:
typedef struct tagTEXTUREPROP
{
DWORD dwSize;

The Marshal.SizeOf obviously calculates a size of 76 and it works with the DLL function, but it leaves me with some bad feelings.
I'm having a problem that's driving me crazy; I can't understand how to convert the XML structure into a class structure (that I want to use to hydrate a XML document).
The XML document looks like this:

<artists xmlns:opensearch="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/" xmlns="http://www.spotify.com/ns/music/1">

Basically in visual basic 6 I could access word tables in existing templates with the code owordactivedoc.tables(1).select() where owordactivedoc refers to the active word document and tables(1) refers to the first table in the template.Trying the same code in VB 2003 just leads to errors. Secondly how do I access bookmarks or alternatively word variables.Furthermore how do one deploy web.services. For example the current program I am building is for another computer. Simply copying the web service to Inetpubwwwroot dont work because it is not picked up by the Internet Information Services program. I have to create the web service in vb2003 on the other computer change msconfig manually. Copy and paste the existing service vb file in the created folder replacing the empty vb file.
View 3 RepliesWe have an interactive windows based application written in VB .Net 2010. It uses Word Object to display documents in MS Word. We have a form with a button. When the button is clicked we open the Word document and maximize the Word Windowstate. When we have the Visual Studio Tool running, the Word Document is maximized and has focus, even if we are running the exe from the bin folder outside of the tool. However, if Visual Studio is not running and we run the exe, focus remains on the original form window and the document stays in the task bar.

I have been trying to figure out how to read paragraph content which exists a heading. The heading itself is part of the table of contents. The heading will have a particular style (say Heading 1). For example: "Introduction" is a entry in Table of content with style Heading 1. I want to read content under heading "Introduction" but not any more content (i.e not content under sub headings of Introduction) I have been trying to do this using styles/style, TableofContent, Paragraphs/Paragraph,Range. Still cannot come up with a effective solution. I am working in VB.NET in VS 2010. I am using the word 2007 object model (office 2007 interop) as [URL]
