Calling Methods In Forms From Embedded User Control Class?

Jul 21, 2010

control which will need to be reused in several forms in my program. It basically consists of several buttons in a panel. To start with, what I need to do is get the button values from the control into a text box on the first form. But I don't want to have a method calling the textbox directly from within the control, because then it won't be reusable in my other forms. Is there something I can do in VB like parentform.textbox.append for example, where you can generically call the methods of the form in which the control appears?

Calling Shared Methods From .NET Class Library In VB6

Jan 25, 2010

I have the following class in a .NET class library:

Code:
Public Class JasonTest
Sub New()
End Sub

[Code]....

The .AddNumbers call works fine, but the AddStrings call yields the error 'Object doesn't support this property or method'.

Is there any way to call a shared method from .NET in VB6? I was unable to find any documentation on this.

.NET Multithreading / Calling Invoke On A UI Control From A Class In A Separate Class File?

May 13, 2011

Example:

Two files - TestClass.vb, myForm.vb

TestClass.vb looks as follows:

Imports System.Threading
Public Class TestClass
Private myClassThread As New Thread(AddressOf StartMyClassThread)

[code]....

The result:Application runs, no errors or exceptions.Displayed is the listbox and the Start button.I press the start button and a msgbox says "Not Invoked" as expected and upon clicking OK to that msgbox "Start Button Pressed" is added to the Output listbox control.Immediately following that the msgbox pops up again and says "Not Invoked". I was expecting "Invoked" as a separate thread is trying to use the Output listbox control.Of course this results in the Output.Items.Add being attempted which results in no visible result as the thread is not allowed to directly update the UI control.

Making Class Methods Instead Of Instance Methods In .NET?

Mar 29, 2010

I am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.

I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function. How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?

Asp.net Vb User Control Raising An Event On The Calling Page

i'm trying to learn about user controls. I created a user control that has a textbox and a button. What i'd like to be able to do is when i click the button in the user control, populate a label in the aspx page. I understand that i could just have a button on the page that uses some properties on the user control to get that information.. but i'd like to know how to do it with the button the user control.. the reason for this is the button is just an example.. a learning tool. if i can get this working, i'd likely be putting thing in the user control that might require this kind of passing information. Anyway.. i've found some c# examples that i tried to get working as vb.. but once started getting into the delegates and events..

Currently I just declair a private instance of the class within the control and then encapsalate. It would be nice if I could just inherit all the functionality of my classes into controls designed to implament the classes.

Calling Methods On Interop Objects - VB Vs C#

Then there's a function on that object (InitialiseData) that I also call (even though the compiler isn't aware of it). var isInitialised = Connection.System.InitialiseData(path); The problem is, because that System object is returning a mere Object, I get the compile error "cannot resolve symbol". I can see why, but the same thing works fine in VB.NET:

Calling Methods In Non-assembly (non-managed) Dlls Through Reflection In .net?

Dec 26, 2011

I want to use reflection to dynamically call a dll (not an assembly, non-managed, possibly COM object model) in vb.net.I've seen several different methods of calling a method in a dll that is a .net assembly - but I have not found the way to dynamically call a method inside of a dll like user32.dll or winmm.dll. I believe this would be called late-binding?

The reason I'm asking is because I am building a language that will depend on external libraries for lots of different functionality. An example (in this language I'm building):

Declare Function mciSendStringA using "winmm.dll" (strCommand As String, strReturn As String, returnLength As Integer, blah As Integer) As Integer

Declare Function WriteConsoleA using "kernel32.dll" (hConsoleOutput As Integer, lpBuffer As String, numberofcharstowrite as Integer, lpReserved as Integer) As Boolean

When I build the interpreter for the call to mciSendString in winmm.dll, how can I use reflection to handle this? I want the user to be able to reference any dll/method they wish. Can I get some guidance in the right direction? Perhaps even some vb.net code that I can take apart and understand?

Or do I have to make x86 and x64 versions of my UC ?

C# - Using A User Control In A Base Page Class

May 21, 2009

I have a base page class that inherits from Page. We'll call it SpiffyPage. I also have a user control called SpiffyControl. I then have an aspx page, ViewSpiffyStuff.aspx, that inherits from SpiffyPage. On page load, the SpiffyPage class is supposed to inject a SpiffyControl into the aspx page. The problem is that SpiffyControl is a user control, and to instantiate that in the code behind one has to access the ASP namespace, sort of like: ASP.controls_spiffycontrol_aspx MyControl;

But SpiffyPage isn't an aspx page, it's just a base page, and as such I can't access the ASP namespace, and I therefore can't instantiate a SpiffyControl in order to inject it. How can I achieve my goal?

Edit: One important point is that I must have a reference to the actual control type so I can assign values to certain custom Properties. That's why a function like LoadControl, which returns type Control, won't work in this case.

Passing Data Between Forms Without Any Public Methods Or Properties On The Forms

Dec 28, 2009

Passing data between forms without any public methods or properties on the forms. everything but the "Controller" class, which I would like you furnish. I just changed the title from "Intermediate" to "Beginner" This solution is an example of the Observer Pattern. The "Controller" class is the "observed" class, which in this case means it publishes events.

' File Definitions.vb

Public Delegate Sub MessageDelegate(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As MessageEventArgs)

Public Class MessageEventArgs : Inherits EventArgs
Public Message As String

[CODE]...

The program should initially display Form1, and Form2. Clicking of the button on either form will modify the Title Text of both forms. I think that you will find the final end result to be pretty neat, as it works with any number of open forms not just two. I think asking for the Controller class is easier than asking for the code in the forms. My solution for Controller class has 7 lines of content, 9 lines if you include Class, EndClass. A minimal solution could achieved with only 4 lines of content, but it would a textbook example of bad programming.
