I Need Build a user control which works as a Login control using Windows Class Library or Component Template:The user control returns the user name and the password It means that the control has minimum two ReadOnly Property procedures. You let the user of your control (he/she which uses your control in his/her software) to set the background colour of the two labels. Create a Windows application to test your control.

I tried it and get an error but maybe I'm tring the wrong way. Can a usercontrol inherate an application defined class ie.. could you inheritance a classic rect class into a user control to add the hight and width properties to the control without having to do all the coding all over again? Currently I just declair a private instance of the class within the control and then encapsalate. It would be nice if I could just inherit all the functionality of my classes into controls designed to implament the classes.

I am trying to build a tournament bracket application. In order to build the application efficiently I would like to make a user control "GameControl" that represents a game and give it attributes that represent the names of the competitors "TeamNameA" and "TeamNameB" ,an attribute "Winner" to represent which team should move on, and an attribute "NextRoundGame" that assigns another instance of the user control so that it can assign the "winner" to one of the "TeamName" attributes of the next round in the competition. If the controls were native to VB I feel like I could do it easily (I have only spent about 30 hours self teaching/tutorial following) but I can't seem to find out how to pass values to custom attributes of custom user controls through code.

I've created a user control that is basically a Panel that contains 1 label,3 TextBoxes and a few properties that set/get some short integer values.During a form load event I display a number of these Panels.I then access the Panels name (and other panel properties) via a user-created handler for the panel's click eventHowever I would really like to access the values from the user-control's properties.
Public Sub load_Panels()
Dim pnlName As String
Dim x As Short = 69

I have a base page class that inherits from Page. We'll call it SpiffyPage. I also have a user control called SpiffyControl. I then have an aspx page, ViewSpiffyStuff.aspx, that inherits from SpiffyPage. On page load, the SpiffyPage class is supposed to inject a SpiffyControl into the aspx page. The problem is that SpiffyControl is a user control, and to instantiate that in the code behind one has to access the ASP namespace, sort of like: ASP.controls_spiffycontrol_aspx MyControl;
But SpiffyPage isn't an aspx page, it's just a base page, and as such I can't access the ASP namespace, and I therefore can't instantiate a SpiffyControl in order to inject it. How can I achieve my goal?
Edit: One important point is that I must have a reference to the actual control type so I can assign values to certain custom Properties. That's why a function like LoadControl, which returns type Control, won't work in this case.

I am using a VB.Net Class DLL to control my webapge and access my dayabase, which is created and destroyed with each page visit.My question is: What's the best method of accessing database.
I am currently doing functions like this
[Code]...
Now Init() is called as the very first code in my webpage and DeInit() is at the very end.I am confused, because I have been told that ADODB objects should be created and destroyed as soon as you no longer need them. Would Method 2 be better, since Method 1 would be creating and destroying ADODB objects several times per page view?

I have created a user control which is inside a folder called Controls and the class is a partial class which inherits from Web.UI.UserControl. Now from my page which is one level up I just try to access the method inside the usercontrol and so trying to cast it as the type of user control.
But I get build errors. It just cannot recognize that class. I get Type not defined error. But at times it has recognized the class. Dont know why it does that.

If we say blue is the default colour of the Backcolor property I understand it as if you don't specify a colour for Backcolor blue will be its colour. But I could not make sense of default property of a class in the context of building a custom user control. After calling an instance of a class we have to either call one of its members or assign an other object for it. Therefore why should there be a default property?

control which will need to be reused in several forms in my program. It basically consists of several buttons in a panel. To start with, what I need to do is get the button values from the control into a text box on the first form. But I don't want to have a method calling the textbox directly from within the control, because then it won't be reusable in my other forms. Is there something I can do in VB like parentform.textbox.append for example, where you can generically call the methods of the form in which the control appears?

I have a couple user controls that are loaded by a Select Case statement. However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?
1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.
2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""
3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?
4) Any other ideas?[code]

Is it possible to create a user control with a list of custom class type property? If it is, how can I? The issue is that, in designer mode the property is not displayed in property window. I can add the list on markup but when i switch to the designer mode it gives an error which is 'The user control does not have a public property named BookList'.

After taking a few years off from programming, I decided to start learning vb.net. I have created a user control that contains a picture box. I added some custom properties to the picture box that will hold general string data from a database.
My problem is that the user control is programatically created during run time, and during this time a DoubleClick event handler is added for the picture box that is within the user control.
I need to be able to set the custom properties for the picture box during the creation of the user control, so that when the control (picture box) is double clicked I can read these values but am unsure on how to access them.
The picture box is the entire size of the user control, or I would just add the custom properties right to the user control and add the DoubleClick event handler to that. However, double clicking needs to be done on the picture box since it takes up the entire user control, unless anyone has an idea to trigger the DoubleClick event of the user control when the picture box is double clicked.

I created a simple user control and everything went fine.Then I created another of the same control (as a different project) from scratch (creating the controls in a different configuration; but pasting code from the previous one from a text file).As far as I know I did everything the same for creating a user controlCreate a Class Library project Then Project>Add New Item> User Control Then delete the initial class that was added automatically (usually named Class1.vb) Put all of my code and components into the user control class.However, when I wanted to run it in the debugger as I did in the previous project, I now get an error message:"A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly."

I have an aspx page that has two different user controls. I want to find user control A and be able to set properties, etc., from user control B.
I was thinking I could do something like this:
Dim CMFilters As Control = Me.Parent.FindControl("CMFilters")
...but that doesnt work to be able to set properties and call methods. I somehow need to get the user control and and declare it as that user control type.

What is the best way to access a value of a control within a form outside of the form class. I have a lot of functions defined in a module, one of these functions requires a series of values from controls in my main form such as the FolderBrowserDialog.SelectedPath element. I understand that these cannot be accessed in the format form.FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath and that they need to be accessed using a delegate. This is the part I am stuck with.

I want to access a page variable from a user control placed on that page. All the solutions work in C# via casting to the page class. The problem is that this doesn't work in VB. The page class is not selectable from the Intellisense dialog. Manual typing results in the error type not defined. It is strange that C# can do this without a problem. What is the proper solution for this in VB? I had other cases where I needed to access a control on the main page. C# again uses a cast to the page class to access the control. This doesn't work in VB again. So how can I access the page class from a user control in generell?

I have some classes, BsfciFile and StudyFlashCard. Bsfci is the extension to which I save my set of flashcards in an INI format. I am currently working to transform my code from using Windows API calls to access the INI to using a IniFile class that I found on the internet. I would like the BsfciFile to have a Array of StudyFlashCard objects, but I would like the StudyFlashCard class to use the IniFile class object contained in the BsfciFile class. I can pass the IniFile from the BsfciFile class to the constructor for the StudyFlashCard class, but I want it to modify the same IniFile as the BsfciFile class has later on.

I have a very simple class that is located within my App_Code folder in my VS2008 web application project. I am trying to instantiate an instance of this class from my code-behind file. Intellisense does not seem to be seeing my class and I am not sure why. I am using VB.NET which I am admittedly not that familiar with as compared to C#. Perhaps I am missing something. I would bet it has something to do with something I am missing in VB.NET.Here is my simple class (for testing):
