ClickOnce Overwrites User Settings Settings .NET 2008 Cant Use Registry UAC Causes Error

Aug 5, 2009

I am rewritting my application to conform to ms standards. We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..

I am trying to follow the book here but it seems i keep getting stuck somewhere. registry has worked fine for years but i understand we must move on, but if stuff like this happens then i just wasted a long time converting all code to conform for it to not work..

C++ - Unhandled AccessViolationException Error Calling A DLL?

Oct 6, 2011

I'm trying to call a C++-compiled DLL from VB.net and I'm running into some problems. Seems like there's an obvious solution, but I can't figure it out.Here is the function declaration in C++:

MyFunction(int trailingaveragesize, double sigmasize, int myflag, int sizeSeries, double *Xdata, double *Ydata, int sizeinputparameter, int *averagePairs, double *PositionsSize, double *PnLSize)

Here is how I'm calling it in VB.Net:

Calling A DLL From .NET - Error Occurs On Windows 7?

Feb 8, 2012

I have a VB6 DLL that wraps a call to a 3rd party component. When I call my DLL from VB6, everything works fine, but when I call it from vb.net (2.0 framework targeted - VS2010) I get this error:

AccessViolationException occurred

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.This error only occurs on Windows 7 (Windows XP clients work fine).I've looked this up and all the articles I found talked about the declaration not being correct.I am not declaring any APIs calls though, the 3rd party component is early bound in my VB6 DLL.I can run the DLL, set a breakpoint,and it goes into my VB6 function, but errors calling a function in the 3rd party component.My VB6 DLL takes 3 string and one 32bit numeric (long in VB6) parameters. The 3rd party's DLL function that I am calling is taking a string (bstrDNSID as string is what Intellisense shows in VB6). This is where it errors.

Update: None of the marshalling has helped, so I tried creating a test sub in my VB6 DLL. I hardcoded all the values within the DLL's test sub. It works fine when called from VB6, but gives the same error as above when running from .NET. Also of interest, when I have the VB6 DLL running from the VB6 IDE, I do not get the error when calling the DLL from .NET.

Calling GetProductInfo Gets An PInvokeStackImbalance Error

Aug 24, 2011

I am testing this on Win 7 Ultimate and it generates an error: PInvokeStackImbalance was detected Message: A call to PInvoke function'WindowsApplication1!WindowsApplication1.Form1::GetProductInfo' has unbalanced the stack. This is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Check that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.

.net - Generic Error In GDI+ When Calling Bitmap.getHBitmap()?

Feb 18, 2010

I'm writing an application which as part of it draws an image on a Logitech G15v2 keyboard's LCD. For the most part the function works fine, but after a while of running, one of the lines throws a "Generic Error in GDI+" The problem, according to a stack trace, is in Bitmap.GetHbitmap():

at System.Drawing.Bitmap.GetHbitmap(Color background)
at System.Drawing.Bitmap.GetHbitmap()
at CSCI171_TermProject.G15.Tick(Single Interval) in C:UsersSukasaCSCI171Term ProjectCSCI171-TermProjectG15.vb:line 45"

I've read a few threads mentioning this error, but that was in the context of saving a file, not getting its associated HBitmap. Would anyone with more experience with GDI+?For better reference, here's the full code module:

Public Module G15
Private G15 As New G15Lib.G15Interface
Private G15BaseImage As New Bitmap("GFXG15-BGImg.png")

Function Calling Itself, Can't Dodge StackOverflow Error

Oct 7, 2011

I understand that this is bad programming practice and redundant coding but I am curios.

I am simply counting a number up to 9999999 in a while loop. The Add() function simply increases that number and prints it out.

Inside the Add() Function I call the Add() function.

My program successfully prints out 12000ish numbers before I get a StackOverflow Exception.

So my question = Is there any way to ignore this error and keep counting?

I have tried On Error Resume, Try/Catch, and throw

My code is as follows.

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
While number1 < 9999999

Example if no results after 30 seconds (or more) throw:

`System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.`SQL Profiler says that the script runs and ends in 30 seconds when the program timesout..Tthe script runs without error in about 1 minute 45 seconds by itself in SQL server.

Calling A Class - Get An Error When Trying To Call The Sub/function The Normal Way?

Sep 1, 2009

I have a Windows form Application that I am creating, could also be a Windows Service that I need to run.There are basically 2 Classes that were converted from java to vb.net and 1 xml file to this. for testing purposes I would like to use the Button.click event to manually run the code.However i get an error when trying to call the sub/function the normal way.I even tried to put this classes information in the Public Class Form1 but it keeps on giving me errors.This is the Sub:

Shared Sub Main(ByVal args() As String)

so how do I call it from a Button.click event?

normally i would just do a "call main()" and it works however this time it is not because of the (byVal args() as string)

Connection Error When Using Project Settings

Feb 25, 2009

I get this error
Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 34.
When I take my connection string and store it in the project settings. I know that this works.
Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" & Application.StartupPath & "\Employees.accdb

Because if I use it like this
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" & Application.StartupPath & "\Employees.accdb")
conn.Open()

The connection succeeds but if I try this
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection(My.Settings.Default.employeeConnection)
conn.Open()

I get that error.
name:employeeConnection
type:string
scope:application
value:Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" & Application.StartupPath & "\Employees.accdb

Reference To A Non-shared Member Settings Error

Aug 31, 2010

I have added a settings file to a project but whenever I reference one of the setting variables I get the following error:

Error 2 Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference. C:DevelopmentPhoenixAppProcessCreditCardProcessing.vb 67 77 Process

I had to manually add this in a merge conflict and the settings code worked fine in the originating branch. The generated code also seems to be identical from what I can see.

I am accessing the settings using My.Settings.{VarName}

edit: Just tried deleting the settings files. This still happens once the file has been re-generated from the app.config values.

VS 2008 Error Catching With Registry Settings

Nov 4, 2009

I'm editing some settings in the registry and then adding items to a ListView.

[Code]...

If I'm not mistaken, the code will not continue in the Try block if the first part fails and then move on to the catch statement, correct? I'm adding and deleting a bunch of different entries in the registry and the computers I've tried my app on so far, have not failed. So I'm not able to test if this method will work for error catching. If there's a better method, I'd appreciate the info.

Possible Duplicate: Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.

Basically, im just searchign for uPnP devices using the uPNPDeviceFinder classes .FindByType method, .FindByUDN works, but FindByType gives an error:VB6 gives a compile error when I attempt to call the method:

Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.

why i am getting it. I am referencing and using the upnp.dll file as found in yoru system32 directory - when i reference and use this in VS2010 (say, vb.net) it all works and no issues are found, but in VB6, i get the error above.

Runtime '429' ActiveX Cannon Create Object Error, Calling .NET From MSO On Vista

Oct 9, 2009

Our VB.NET application has a .NET dll, with a registered TLB file; so that VBA in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel can call into the application. The application functions correctly except when it is called into via MSO on Vista. This functions correctly on Windows XP machines but on Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines it is returning a 429 error. A reference to the TLB file can be assigned in the VBA References dialog box, on Vista.It doesn't appear to be a problem in our application as a simple Test libary does the same thing. Microsoft Applications have been 'Run As' Adminstrator, and Vista UAC is turned off, but I am thinking there is perhaps a security issue?
